2 Instances Of Sidebar.exe Showing In The Processes Tab
Apr 25, 2009I just noticed when looking in task manager that I have 2 instances of sidebar.exe showing in the processes tab. This is true for both my desktop running 64 bit and my laptop running 32 bit. Both are using different amounts of memory and both are running under the same user name. Is this normal and if so why are there two instances?

Mar 23, 2008Quite a problem here. I noticed my internet [T1, I have a box with a light that flashes when in use] was going nonstop at a fast rate, even when my computer was idle. So I went and checked my network settings. My computer is alone, not on any networks, but "JACQUELINE-PC" and a media version of that is showing up on my network. My network was private and I changed it to public, seeing as Windows Help said that is safest for lone computers. I also added a password to my windows computer account. I tried to turn "file sharing" off, but it said it was controlled by my firewall. I use Nortons
Internet Security for firewall and I havent been able to find any option to
disable file sharing in it.

Jun 27, 2008In the network map I can see the two computers, the router and the internet symbol. File and printer sharing is on for both machines but the other machine which is visable cant be connected to? Firewall permits file and printer sharing as well.

Computer Showing White Screen, Re-installed Vista
May 10, 2008my computer showing white screen. I maybe turn it on and a few minutes later it's completely white. Sometimes it showes first stripes, black and white. I've googled it but not found much so I went here to ask. For about 2 months ago I had problem with BSOD but re-installed Vista and it was OK. My computer is Packard Bell SB87 (something like that, not sure) and with Vista Home Premium.

Icons/Files From User Folder Showing Up In Computer Folder
Nov 26, 2009I have several icons/files from my "User" folder showing up in the "Computer" folder (several in duplicate), PLUS numerous blank icons. This seems to have occurred after the Common Files folder became corrupted, after I somewhat riskily decided to power off while Vista was attempting to come out of Sleep mode - it had already taken about 3 mins and I was in a hurry - bad move, I know. That delay appears to have been due to an old version of Online Armor, and has now been fixed (by an update). Chkdsk scanned and (apparently) corrected some errors, and I also ran SFC which said it had corrected some errors but had also found some that it couldn't correct.

Mar 2, 2009My Elements 500G external hard drive has worked fine for years but recently it stopped showing up in "my computer" as a drive. I have windows vista and it recognizes that the elements drive is there (the safely remove hardware icon shows up and it appears in device management). I wouldn't be surprised if the drive was dying as I've had it awhile but since it's still recognized by the computer I was hoping there was some way to access it and salvage the files. Any one have any suggestions? (and I'm not particularly hardware savvy so anything that involves taking apart the drive is probably right out)

Pics Not Staying Deleted
Apr 26, 2010I have a bunch of pics in my "My Pictures" folder that, I've copied from the net and then changed the name so that I can find the pic I want to see quickly. But when I look in that folder later I not only have the files with the names I want but, also the same pictures with their original names. I've deleted them several times, and each time they return. I've mass deleted, and deleted them one by one (Some 80 pics). I'm really beginning to wonder if I shouldn't just dump the laptop for good. I have Picasa and Quicktime if that would make a difference. I have really come to hate all forms of Windows for various reasons, but am reluctant to spend the time and the money to move to a different OS.

Oct 23, 2008Have been using wmail successfully. Works fine now for std email. Suddenly Picasa cannot send pics which it did before. Setting defaults does not show Windows Mail as a choice. The ony choice shown is "use my current E mail program. Windows Mail (news) is the only choice shown in side window. I don't know if this is the Picasa problem but I know that Windows Mail was once shown as the default email program. How do I get it back as a choice? Regular email does work fine rcv and send. I have set "eml" as an association.

Jan 31, 2009Every time I try to upload a picture to, for example, facebook, or I try to attach a picture from my pictures file to an email, I start browsing, get to my pictures, and three seconds later, Internet Explorer stops working, telling me it has encountered a problem (it never tells me what) and then restarts. I have lost entire emails this way, plus I can never browse my pictures when I am online! It might happen to other documents (like Word) as well, I have never tried.

Sometime later it decided to lose sight of the network altogether. I have vista 32bit. My video card is an nVidia nForce Networking Controller. The driver currently on there is nvm60x32.sys. After doing some google searching I have found that I am not the only idiot who decided to try vista out and is having the same problem.

Defrag Status/progress Information
Jul 7, 2008Is there a way to perform an analysis of the fragmentation level of a drive in Vista Home Premium? I miss being able to see a graphic representation of a disk's fragmentation. Also, previous versions of Windows provided the user a progress bar than informed them of the status of the defrag program when it was running. It appears that Home Premium runs in the background and one never gets a "defragmentation complete" dialog box with options to see a report. I've tried running it manually and not closing the Run dialog box, but it seems to run for hours without any feedback to the user.

Feb 25, 2009On my Acer lapto, vista battery status shows it is 100% charged, but only 30 minutes working time remains. The working mode has been set to 'balanced', but even changing it to 'power save' it only gains a couple of minutes.
I have my laptop for almost a year. Is it normal that the battery practically used up within a year? Or is perhaps something else wrong here? In the beginning it could almost last 3 hours. But with only 30 minutes you can't get any work done.
