Posts I make in this newsgroup are not showing up on my computer. I think I had this problem once before, but can't remember the fix. If I go to "microsoft.windows.public.vista.general" in Internet Explorer = my posts are shown there.
Quite a problem here. I noticed my internet [T1, I have a box with a light that flashes when in use] was going nonstop at a fast rate, even when my computer was idle. So I went and checked my network settings. My computer is alone, not on any networks, but "JACQUELINE-PC" and a media version of that is showing up on my network. My network was private and I changed it to public, seeing as Windows Help said that is safest for lone computers. I also added a password to my windows computer account. I tried to turn "file sharing" off, but it said it was controlled by my firewall. I use Nortons Internet Security for firewall and I havent been able to find any option to disable file sharing in it.
In the network map I can see the two computers, the router and the internet symbol. File and printer sharing is on for both machines but the other machine which is visable cant be connected to? Firewall permits file and printer sharing as well.

my computer showing white screen. I maybe turn it on and a few minutes later it's completely white. Sometimes it showes first stripes, black and white. I've googled it but not found much so I went here to ask. For about 2 months ago I had problem with BSOD but re-installed Vista and it was OK. My computer is Packard Bell SB87 (something like that, not sure) and with Vista Home Premium.
I have several icons/files from my "User" folder showing up in the "Computer" folder (several in duplicate), PLUS numerous blank icons. This seems to have occurred after the Common Files folder became corrupted, after I somewhat riskily decided to power off while Vista was attempting to come out of Sleep mode - it had already taken about 3 mins and I was in a hurry - bad move, I know. That delay appears to have been due to an old version of Online Armor, and has now been fixed (by an update). Chkdsk scanned and (apparently) corrected some errors, and I also ran SFC which said it had corrected some errors but had also found some that it couldn't correct.
My Elements 500G external hard drive has worked fine for years but recently it stopped showing up in "my computer" as a drive. I have windows vista and it recognizes that the elements drive is there (the safely remove hardware icon shows up and it appears in device management). I wouldn't be surprised if the drive was dying as I've had it awhile but since it's still recognized by the computer I was hoping there was some way to access it and salvage the files. Any one have any suggestions? (and I'm not particularly hardware savvy so anything that involves taking apart the drive is probably right out)
I just installed an additional 2gb of RAM on my system, but this is not showing in the Task Manager. It iniitally was not showing in either, but after installing SP1 Sys info was updated.
It appears this newsgroup is no longer the place to seek useful answers to Vista questions. Could someone suggest another group that actually conducts itself in a professional manner?
Where are the Windows 7 newsgroups? We have reviewed all the newsgroups only to find one for about any version of Windows except Windows 7. Are there no Windows 7 newsgroups?
From my Vista Windows Mail client, I suddenly cant access the news.virginmedia.com server anylonger. I get an 480 authentication required message. Code 800ccca2. My email and internet access works fine.
Having steadily used Win 7 since the first public I entirely sympathize with those who label it Vista SP3.It is not significantly faster than Vista 64 SP2 on the same hardware and uses the same drivers. It hiccoughs over many of the same obstacles. When a device manufacturer, for example Canon, markets a "new printer" but it uses the same inks as prior generation printers, Canon is doing nothing more than selling the the old print engine in a new box.The reason Win 7 came out so "fast" by Microsoft standards is that mostly they just grafted a tweaked UI onto Vista SP2.Vista SP2 is the engine that runs Win 7: new or old/new?
I think it safe to say at this point as people are getting Windows 7 today and its full rollout will be tomorrow, and still no windows 7 newsgroup, that there will not be one.
I have tried to find the windows 7 Newsgroup in this list of Newsgroup where this one on Vista is, but I do not get a hit. Is there one in this group that I can add to my list and use to ask some questions?
Windows Vista has a lot of pretty and nice graphics, and pretty colors, etc, but it is very difficult to find some thing there when you are lost and the folder systems is extremely complicated sometimes. I use Vista now, have had it for about two years now, and I still have difficulty finding the logic of the folder system sometimes. I don't think that my former Windows XP was so complicated (do people agree?) Is the new Windows 7 as complicated as Vista? (I do not have Windows 7 yet).
Why does Vista keep automatically unsubscribing me from this newsgroup? I am fully convinced that Vista is too unstable for use in any serious and/or critical applications. Having said that I still believe it is not far short of miraculous when compared to computing operations of thirty years ago.
I am looking for the version 7 newsgroup. i am unable to look @ my c drive. i get the msg 'assess denied'. so what did i do wrong? how do i get access?

I can't find any newsgroup dealing with Windows 7, are there any? I need to ask a couple of questions in regards XP Mode, if there aren't any newsgroups for Windows 7 what would be the next best place
Newsgroup info about windows 7. There is a problem with the alt.windows7.general newgroups. I don't think it is named correctly. That is why some news severs are not caring this. I think. Here is my new server response. the idea is that there's discussion in alt.config, a proper newsgroup charter is written, there's agreement on the actual name (alt.config discussed alt.os.windows-7 last week), and someone sends a control message. This is necessary to ensure adequate interest and agreement.
Where can I post Windows 7 queries? Why is Microsoft refusing to include a W7 newsgroup? Do they have an alternative means of answering user questions? Not an inconvenient forum
a. Is there a newsgroup for windows defender, similar to this newsgroup?
b. Also, are the windows defender definition updates accumulative (if updates are missed for two previous months, will the current update include the definition updates for the previous two months?
I've done several times and in many cases they care, unlike country where I was born, companies here listen to customers. I am one (if not entire?) reason for example Nestle Conglomerate based in Switzerland has changed plastic in their water bottles branded in USA as PolandSpring, Deerpark, Appalachian or whatever it si (i forgot all thei rnumerou sbrands) from dangerous HDPE to PETE plastic. Likewise if you keep secrets who will KNOW??
Share with Microsoft your desire to create a W7 Newsgroups, in addition or to oppose MS's drive to use Web interface from no won. Share your reasons, like less time to participae in NG than in Web, THREADING, filtering, etc - sheer power of a Newsreader is incomparably better than a Web interfcae. Midcrosoft's site-->COntact-..CustomerService, and navigate thru severla menus, it's free, though takes effort to get thru their clutter as no company in the world wants email/phone contact to be too easy to avoid their cust servive being overloaded.
Otherwise you post here and why would MS care beyind a few Usenet server operators, you think they transmit everything said here to Redmond? No. I wrote about my desires for WinExplorer nonsense in Vista to be fixed in Windows7, i see it was done, so it's more like good old WindowsXP in terms of Explorer remembering views finally, unlike ***** Vista. SO write now about your wish for a W7 Newsgroups.
