View 4 RepliesIf I get the OEM version, I know that a restriction in the license means it cannot be transferred to another computer. I need to get clarification on the following:
1) What happens if my computer crashes and I am told I have to reformat the hard drive and re-install Windows? Am I forced to buy a new license?
2) What if I want to have a backup hard drive, or upgrade my existing hard drive to a bigger one? If it's the same computer and only the hard drive is upgraded or a second one added, does that mandate a new license?
If there is anyone out there willing to trade their 64bit version of Vista Home Premium for my OEM 32bit version of Vista Home Premium, e-mail me at 'I need the 64bit version because my system has 8GB RAM.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my pc and bought Windows Vista ultimate 64bit, and i would like to install Windows vista Business 64bit. How can i do it? I took ultimate because it was the only version i could find (in my area anyway) that had a 64bit version in the box. But i don't want the media center, the high definition, and all the multimedia stuff. All of these ultimate "extras" are of no use whatsover to me. So my question is basically can i install the Business version with my ultimate key ? (is it "downwards" compatible in a way ?). I don't understand why ultimate is the only one with 64bit in the box. It doesn't make sense to me. It would have been much more logical for the Business version to be the one with 64bit in the box.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI purchased a new PC in early 2007 that came with XP. A month or so later I received the Vista upgrade CD which I have never installed. I intend to buy Windows 7 when it becomes available and wish to minimize my system upgrade problems as much as possible. Based on my understanding I would have to do a complete harddrive erase to install Win 7 and then reinstall all my applications. If possible and practical I'd like to upgrade XP to Vista and then Vista to Windows 7. My question am I likely to have problems going from a current up to date version of XP to a 2+ year old version of Vista which would require many updates to bring up to the current level?.

View 9 Replies View RelatedHaving steadily used Win 7 since the first public I entirely sympathize with those who label it Vista SP3.It is not significantly faster than Vista 64 SP2 on the same hardware and uses the same drivers. It hiccoughs over many of the same obstacles. When a device manufacturer, for example Canon, markets a "new printer" but it uses the same inks as prior generation printers, Canon is doing nothing more than selling the the old print engine in a new box.The reason Win 7 came out so "fast" by Microsoft standards is that mostly they just grafted a tweaked UI onto Vista SP2.Vista SP2 is the engine that runs Win 7: new or old/new?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI think it safe to say at this point as people are getting Windows 7 today and its full rollout will be tomorrow, and still no windows 7 newsgroup, that there will not be one.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have tried to find the windows 7 Newsgroup in this list of Newsgroup where this one on Vista is, but I do not get a hit. Is there one in this group that I can add to my list and use to ask some questions?
Windows Vista has a lot of pretty and nice graphics, and pretty colors, etc, but it is very difficult to find some thing there when you are lost and the folder systems is extremely complicated sometimes. I use Vista now, have had it for about two years now, and I still have difficulty finding the logic of the folder system sometimes. I don't think that my former Windows XP was so complicated (do people agree?) Is the new Windows 7 as complicated as Vista? (I do not have Windows 7 yet).
Why does Vista keep automatically unsubscribing me from this newsgroup? I am fully convinced that Vista is too unstable for use in any serious and/or critical applications. Having said that I still believe it is not far short of miraculous when compared to computing operations of thirty years ago.

View 9 Replies View RelatedNewsgroup info about windows 7. There is a problem with the alt.windows7.general newgroups. I don't think it is named correctly. That is why some news severs are not caring this. I think. Here is my new server response. the idea is that there's discussion in alt.config, a proper newsgroup charter is written, there's agreement on the actual name (alt.config discussed alt.os.windows-7 last week), and someone sends a control message. This is necessary to ensure adequate interest and agreement.

I've done several times and in many cases they care, unlike country where I was born, companies here listen to customers. I am one (if not entire?) reason for example Nestle Conglomerate based in Switzerland has changed plastic in their water bottles branded in USA as PolandSpring, Deerpark, Appalachian or whatever it si (i forgot all thei rnumerou sbrands) from dangerous HDPE to PETE plastic. Likewise if you keep secrets who will KNOW??
Share with Microsoft your desire to create a W7 Newsgroups, in addition or to oppose MS's drive to use Web interface from no won. Share your reasons, like less time to participae in NG than in Web, THREADING, filtering, etc - sheer power of a Newsreader is incomparably better than a Web interfcae. Midcrosoft's site-->COntact-..CustomerService, and navigate thru severla menus, it's free, though takes effort to get thru their clutter as no company in the world wants email/phone contact to be too easy to avoid their cust servive being overloaded.
Otherwise you post here and why would MS care beyind a few Usenet server operators, you think they transmit everything said here to Redmond? No. I wrote about my desires for WinExplorer nonsense in Vista to be fixed in Windows7, i see it was done, so it's more like good old WindowsXP in terms of Explorer remembering views finally, unlike ***** Vista. SO write now about your wish for a W7 Newsgroups.

I was using Outlook Express on my XP machine until it died, so I switched
everything to my Vista laptop which has Microsoft Mail. It seems just about
the same, but all the emails and contacts are now separate files rather than
the old MDX format. I found some software that can be purchased that will
extract the emails into the new EML format, but I would think Microsoft
would have a built-in or freely available utility to do this, since both are
their products and included in the OS. Can I also install OE on my Vista
computer and then save emails as EML?
My goal is to take over this vista newsgroup when Frank retires. That's why I have been very busy studying under Master Frank the art of Trolling. I have been painstakingly reading through the millions of posts of frank in this newsgroup so I can learn as much as possible. Frank indeed is the master of posting day and night, and yet saying nothing. This is a skill I have learned now! Also I have learned by heart all the fast insults Frank has used against his dreaded enemies, that involve sheep, medications, cardboard spaceships, and variety of colorful bad words.
I also do the same daily vista prayer frank does every day.. even though like him I never owned vista! The art of scaring off a newsgroup opponent by magnifying my riches, abilities, intelligence, number of owned computers, and even good looks, is something that Frank has taught me well. It doesn't matter if Im a creep, fat and stupid as a retard, as long as my newsgroup opponent doesn't know, I will always be able to win! I also have learned the same great computer skills Frank has, that includes not being able to import the data from one news client to another, the fear of clicking on links in newsgroups messages, and the inability to view flash video...............
