Aug 9, 2008my computer crashed and I tried to recover it using a recovery disk.. but suddenly I choosed and click the TOSHIBA recovery wizard.. And there's a 2 option...Recovery of factory Default Software and the 2nd option is Erase the hard disk(delete all the data and partitions from your hard disk) then I took 10 hours of this..then when it finished the process.. I try to restart my laptop then suddenly appears this word with a black screen.. (invalid partition table)

Jul 29, 2009I have a gateway MT3422 that I have had for 2 years and it came with vista. I have had to restore my computer once since I have had it and never had any serious problems with it. 3 months ago, my computer was trying to install SP1 and when the computer restarts, it goes to a blue screen, then into a black screen and it says "error, calling phyllat. can not find operating system" and it locks up. I push ALT+CTRL+DEL to reset it and it reboots and says the upgrade did not install and gives me the option to reinstall it. After 3 months of trying, I gave up and ignored my computer to download and install the service pack.
Then one day, it actually installed SP1 and when it restarted, it said "error, do you wish to launch system restore (recommended)" I did and it went to a black screen for 4 hours - no cpu or aything running or eve the blue cpu light to show its running. No fan on, no noise from the processor. I shut my computer off and it doesnt ever go to the windows vista loading screen.
Ive tried to boot in safe mode and it gets hung up on system/windows32.....drv and never goes any further and gets caught in a loop. I pushed f8 to launch the repair mode, and it gets caught in a loop. I put i my restore disc that came with my laptop and when I ask it to install windows vista, it gets caught in a loop. tried to do a system restore and it cant because my C drive is corrupted.
Update Of Adobe Crashed My Computer
Nov 9, 2008i am running vista home premium that came installed on my toshiba.
it was running a tad strangly but still running (not noticing the the computer name had been changed and various other items)..
then i was doing a normal update of adobe pdf reader and the install crashed. after that the microsoft installer wont work, i cant boot my computer normally altho it does open in safe mode - however, the windows installer wont work - even in safe mode.
when i try to boot it normally it seems to start fine but hangs once the desktop appears.....
i have tried repairing the startup process via the vista repair disc.
i have tried restoring back to a previous restore point
nothing so far has worked.
after doing the above i cant even start my computer normally (altho i can boot in safe) it seems to begin the process then the screen just goes black altho the disk light is still on....
i am now just about to reinstall my entire system but i would rather not have to do this....
is there anything else i can try? i have a time sensitive deadline that needs to be reached (of course) so i cant play around with this for too long.
Computer Crashed After Installing Vista
May 18, 2009I have a Acer aspire Laptop with Windows vista 64 bit It worked fine until the other day i started it and it wouldn't boot windows at all. The only disk that I got with my computer was the Windows vista anytime upgrade CD. It has let me install windows vista once before when my computer crashed. Now when I try to re-install Windows vista everything works fine until I get to the part where it asks me to select the drive on where to install it to.I can't find any where it is suppose to list them.Also what used to be my C: drive is now Drive X: I have tried to boot from dos,Treid to do the repair,Nothing seems to work. When I start my computer now the only thing I get is; Media test failure,Check cable Exiting PXE ROM Can anyone give me some ideas on what to try or do?

Nov 17, 2008I blew out the keyboard, (thought something might have gotten down there and was the cause of this) but still no change. I tried to restart my Vista Ultimate x64, but because it was keying that letter it just kept trying to search. So I had to hit the power button. This is where it gets weird. Upon restart, it goes to some sort of recovery wizard. No log-in screen, just this wizard. If I cancelled it, my system would reboot. So, after 6 different cancels / restarts, I tried it. It did a recovery that set up two partitions on my HD, but ERASED EVERYTHING. Anything that was not installed originally on the computer was erased. There are no system restore points (Deleted as well) Don't worry, I back-up fairly often. But I'd like to know what the hell happen.

Oct 1, 2009I deal with megatons of PDF docs e.g. datahseets, manuals, etc. It's mostly text. As I've been doing computers for decades & health is my priority, not something in "background" I have SUPER healthy environment such as all-black background, silver-colored fonts, no distractions/graphics, brightness at zero, contrast at comfortably low setting which is in hardware + nVidia videodriver, my graphics is 512MB nVidia GeForceMobile. It's too long to explain but everything is as good as it gets.
The bright ideas don't arrive into your head in the office, in bright light while a bunch of people swarm around, you can hear peeing in the toilet, PHONES, etc. I use earplugs 34NRR rating, blue things that far exceed so-called noise reduction headphones (which are a ripoff).
Do you kno whwere bright ideas get born? In a park, woods, the bench, MY CAR - the best, I sit alone in total silence, no cellphones, no dorks of my neighborhood - I just drive out to s State/National Park and that's where I work on complex problems. I need all these PDF's with me. Printing is not an option you obviously understand. One Datasheet for Microchip PIC18F4420 is 421 pages, and I need like a dozen of things of this sort with me.

Mar 23, 2008I'm having some issues with acquiring an IP address via DHCP. When I statically set the address and try to ping anything I get General Failure as a result each time. This is the case when I ping 127.0.0.1 as well. I tried using a USB wireless card instead with the same results which is why I do not believe it is a hardware problem.
I have restarted in safe mode with networking which provides the same result. I've checked for any software firewalls that the user may have installed but found nothing. It is a Sony VAIO, so I can't rule out the Sony hid one somewhere and I just can't find it.
The machine is running Windows Vista Home Premium. When in the network and sharing center, there is a link between 'This computer' and (when the address is not static - unidentified network or when static - Network 2) but the next link has a red x through it. When I tell it to diagnose the problem it responds with "There might be a problem with one or more network adapters on this computer" and reccommends that I try to use wireless instead.wireless has the same problem,

He said to always try to connect the new device and see if Vista-64 "sees it" properly, and then uses the Vista drivers.There should be no compatibility problems. But if Vista-64 "cannot" recognize it, one had better go to the device site and ensure it's 64 bit compatible and if new drivers exist.Otherwise, forcing the install could lead to problems.

General Question Re Resetting/renewing IP Connection
Jun 4, 2009I have a general question re network settings under Vista Home Premium. On occasion, during busy times of the day, my cable modem will indicate that the connection is lost. If I manually unplug the power cable to the cable modem and router, wait until 15 or so seconds, and reconnect the cables, I can usually suceed in obtaining a connection. I assume the computer looks and finds a new address from my IP.
Under Vista, using cmd.exe (elevated), I tried ipconfig /renew but
received the following message - An error occured while renewing interface
Local Area Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has

Boot And General Operating With Home Premium 64
May 12, 2009I have an HP Pavillion dv7 Notebook (Model No. FS136UAR to be specific) running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit. As a little bit of history to the current problem, here is a basic run down of the problems so far. Got the laptop in first week of February. Up until about Mid April, the laptop would regularly not boot. Post would run as normal and then a black screen message saying Windows could not boot; insert the CD/DVD and repair or run a recovery.
Twice the setup based repair and the HP provided recovery repair did not work and I had to rebuild the laptop. Once I rebuilt it with HP recovery partition and the second time I got a new MS retail CD and installed the system from scratch with drivers downloaded from HP's site.......................

Mar 23, 2008Admittedly I may have done something to cause this but I can not get it right: Vista Home premium, 32 bit. New User, new PC. Had all data and music files on external HDD's. Moved data (documents, pictures) over last week, and moved Music files over to C drive today.
On Taskbar, at Start button, click on button, On right side of Start menu there are: under my picture, choices for "Me (user)", Documents, Pictures, Music, Games, then a divide and then, Search, Recent Items, Computer and so on. If I click on Documents I go to the folder with files of documents. Same with Pictures. The files from both Documents and Pictures came from an external HDD.............

Windows Vista has a lot of pretty and nice graphics, and pretty colors, etc, but it is very difficult to find some thing there when you are lost and the folder systems is extremely complicated sometimes. I use Vista now, have had it for about two years now, and I still have difficulty finding the logic of the folder system sometimes. I don't think that my former Windows XP was so complicated (do people agree?) Is the new Windows 7 as complicated as Vista? (I do not have Windows 7 yet).
