I need to get rid of trojan. I tried running the antivirus. But still find trojan. Now my system is hanging everytime.I use WindowsXP. Its very hard for me to even login. Can this problem be fixed in Safemode? These are the messages i get
Admittedly I may have done something to cause this but I can not get it right: Vista Home premium, 32 bit. New User, new PC. Had all data and music files on external HDD's. Moved data (documents, pictures) over last week, and moved Music files over to C drive today.
On Taskbar, at Start button, click on button, On right side of Start menu there are: under my picture, choices for "Me (user)", Documents, Pictures, Music, Games, then a divide and then, Search, Recent Items, Computer and so on. If I click on Documents I go to the folder with files of documents. Same with Pictures. The files from both Documents and Pictures came from an external HDD.............
I want to ask a question on the subject of HDD image b/ups (Paragon Drive Backup 9 Pro) and the size of the images produced. the question is not about the Paragon Software but rather image size Vs disk content. Is this the right forum, or should I go elsewhere?
I'm using Vista Enterprise at work and had to move cubicles. I copied all my documents from my old computer (also Vista Enterprise) and my favorites folder to a thumb drive, then without thinking coppied them all back to the Documents folder on this computer.
Now instead of IE7 looking in the C:Usersmy_name directory for the Favorites folder it or i have somehow created another favorites folder inside my old favorites folder in Documents and it's looking for the favorites there.
How do i redirect IE7 to find my favorites in the Favorites folder in the User folder?
After three days of bliss with Vista Ultimate x64 I've already had it. Could someone give me a hint where Vista moved the files I thought I was dragging across the LAN onto my new desktop. I'd like to have them back when I get XP Pro x64 installed.
I have this problem since I use Vista and Windows Mail and it seems it's not Internet Explorer related, because it doesn't exist with Outlook Express and IE7/8. I think most of you know the feature some forums have, you get an eMail notice about a new posting in a thread you're watching. These notices usually contain a link to the new posting.
clicking on that url opens IE (or FF) and it directs you to the new posting. But when I click on it using Windows Mail in Vista (and I use IE) it opens the thread page in the forum that contains the new posting, but doesn't directly show it, so I often have to scroll till I found it. I noticed that IE just opens this url:
That means, the last part 208112 is missing and that's the reason why it just shows the current page (scrolled to top), but not the posting itself. Does anyone of you have a solution for that problem? I think it's kinda annoying, especially when there's more than 1 new posting in a forum
I've had no luck at the Thunderbird forum. And this is one of those situations I find it hard to believe I'm inventing the wheel. Surely others have tackled this one. I tried one more measure this morning after googling around a bit: I told Vista to search hidden files and folders. But it still isn't finding my Thunderbird emails. A few days ago someone suggested going to microsoft and looking for an add-in or plugin. I didn't find anything there searching "thunderbird."
Somehow, my Links folder (the one that contains the "favorite links" in the left panel of an explorer window) got moved into my Pictures folder --> C:Users(my name)PicturesLinks. This must have happened quite some time ago... I think it should be located here: C:Users(my name)Links - correct? If I right click and go into properties, the location tab allows me to move this folder. I get two messages - one asking me if I really want to move the folder and its contents (it's just some shortcuts), and the second if I want to direct the Links folder into another system folder "Profile" located at C:Users(my name). It also says if I proceed with the redirection I will not be able to separate them or restore the default location... I don't quite get what that means...
I access microsoft.public.windows.vista.general through Google and all the messages appear. When I use Outlook and attach to msnews.microsoft.com,messages are deleted for content. Is there a way to access the vista.general group through Google using Outlook Express? The display is much better and the messages are presented better.
Vista Home Premium. I moved my Favorites folder using Properties-Location into my User folder on the data drive - got "access denied" when trying to save a URL. Tried this command as an administrator in E:UsersGordon: icacls favorites /setintegritylevel (OI)(CI)low. got he error "can't find folder".
I' running Vista an a new HP Pavilion Laptop, with Firefox as my browser. Everything is falling into place, but when I open this Forum it is so small that I must Zoom in at least three times to get it large enough to read! I don't have this problem with anything else, that I know of. How can I get this site to open in readable size??
I want to attach photographs to a fordforum.com.au post and the size limit for uploading is 146.5 KB. How do I resize the photograph, while keeping the original in its actual size?
I don't a lot of stuff and usually it all ends up on the desktop. It usually stays there for a while and annoys me. Is there a way that I can download to desktop ,but as soon as the file hits the desktop its moved to another file. So there is no desktop icons at all?
when i click on a file to delete it, it comes up with this ---> "The... folder does not exist. The file may have been moved or deleted."
I think I have deleted these files a while ago but when i search for them they show up as 0 bytes.
I tried - creating a new folder with the same name and putting those files in and then deleting them, but doesn't work. I tried Hijack this and delete on reboot, can't open as file does not exist for deletion.
recently any files i either a) delete/move in bulk while holding the CTRL button or b) entire folders i delete, have been reappearing when my computer restarts after shutdown. the deletion shows up in my recycle bin or the destination i moved it to, but it's like another copy appears in its place. these have so far been .mp3 or .jpg files (i haven't tried it on any other kind). i've emptied the recycle bin and they still appear. what could be causing this?
Yesterday, the Windows Mail shortcut that had been in the pop-up list in the left of the task bar moved to the desktop. I do not want that shortcut on the desktop. How do I get it back in the pop-up list?
When I get an email for a new forum post, the hypertext looks like this... 'NEFGA :: View topic - Going to unread forum posts' But when I click the link, what shows up in the browser is - 'NEFGA :: View topic - Going to unread forum posts' Instead of taking me to the post for that message, it takes me to the top of the page the post is on. Why is the 65341 being dropped off.If tried clicking on the same hypertext in other applications such as Word and do not have the same problem.I'm using Firefox.

Now that Vista Second Edition, aka Windows 7, is out, this group has degenerated into Frank baiting anyone who is willing to fight with him. I won't be posting much here. Now that I have Windows 7 running, I will help people on the alt newsgroup but not under the nym of "Alias".
I'm having some issues with acquiring an IP address via DHCP. When I statically set the address and try to ping anything I get General Failure as a result each time. This is the case when I ping 127.0.0.1 as well. I tried using a USB wireless card instead with the same results which is why I do not believe it is a hardware problem.
I have restarted in safe mode with networking which provides the same result. I've checked for any software firewalls that the user may have installed but found nothing. It is a Sony VAIO, so I can't rule out the Sony hid one somewhere and I just can't find it.
The machine is running Windows Vista Home Premium. When in the network and sharing center, there is a link between 'This computer' and (when the address is not static - unidentified network or when static - Network 2) but the next link has a red x through it. When I tell it to diagnose the problem it responds with "There might be a problem with one or more network adapters on this computer" and reccommends that I try to use wireless instead.wireless has the same problem,
Recently, I went to the start menu to search for a file, and found (or rather, did not find...) that 'search' had gone missing from the menu. I can still use it from specific pages, such as My Documents, but not as a general option. Secondly, Internet Explorer has an annoying habit of locking up, then giving me the option of exiting the program or restarting...
After trying to install drivers for an HP printer resulting in a total wipe out and reinstall, the Asus tech called me and suggested this guide. He said to always try to connect the new device and see if Vista-64 "sees it" properly, and then uses the Vista drivers. There should be no compatibility problems. But if Vista-64 "cannot" recognize it, one had better go to the device site and ensure it's 64 bit compatible and if new drivers exist.Otherwise, forcing the install could lead to problems.
I needed a usb flash drive, so i thought i would order one that was compatable with vistas readyboost. I have been reading about about it breifly, and it seems to work for some people but not others, but i take it, thats going by everybodys machine is different, but doe's it generally work, like if you are using big resoruces like aero with transparancy, as i am not sure where the performance gains will be, or what you you can run before noticing any performance boost. just some general advice really or any tips.I have currently got 2gb of ram
My computer crashed & I had to repair the system. The User that I entered is "xxxxxx". When I restored my backup files to their original location my mail box, which I had relocated from its default location to "Documents", reinstalled to the user name of my original installation "xxx". I then started Windows Mail and selected the mail box to that location. However when I try to restart Windows Mail I get the following "Windows Mail could not be started. The application was unable to openthe Windows Mail message store. Your Windows Mailmailbox data is currently being used by another program...............(0x800C0155)"When I click OK I get a window showing "Windows Mail could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be initialized. Is there a solution other than repairing Vista again?
