Laptop No Longer Prints To XP Server
Apr 7, 2009My Vista home laptop used to print to my XP server but no longer does. This started about a week ago after I changed the router. I tried reinstalling the printer however it still doesn't print. I'm able to open the properties and make changes there however I get an error when I try and print. My other XP laptops print.

May 4, 2008My Lexmark X2450 has been working on my Vista PC since May'07. Sometime in the last few weeks something has changed and initially it seemed that it wouldn't print anything. Lots of experimentation and uninstalls later, I've come to the conclusion that the printer is O.k. as it will print test pages and IE web pages, but I can't get it to print anything else, (Word docs etc. These show as spooling, printing then deleting in the print queue. Note: Last night, I gave up trying at 2am turned the printer and PC off and turned it off at the wall - the next morning my son turned on the PC and some of the print attempts from last night printed!

Apr 19, 2008Just discovered a new problem after installing SP1. I have a Canon i9950 inkjet printer. It's an A3 photo printer and has produced superb prints since I got my new PC with Vista 64 HP about 6 months ago. I went to make some prints yesterday and have wasted about 10 sheets of expensive photo paper. All my pics came out predominantly pink, very pink. Every time I switch the printer on Vista recognizes it as new hardware, searches for a driver and installs it. I don't seem able to get round this. I have about 5 different software apps to print from and tried them all-Photoshop, Lightroom, Canon DPP etc. All produce pink pics. Some, like Picasa report printer offline and won't print at all.

Apr 22, 2009I have a HP4650 that is connected to a PC running Windows XP-SP3. I am printing from a laptop running Windows Vista Business 64. I am using the "HP PCL5 Universal Print Driver" (I have the same results if I use the "HP PCL6 Universal Print Driver"). These are the drivers for Vista 64 from HP's website. The printer is connected to the Vista laptop as a
local printer, using a local port similar to '\officedellHP4650'(file://\officedellHP4650). (If I don't use the local port approach, printing is extremely slow... 3+ minutes to display the printer's Properties dialog)
When I print from any program on the Vista laptop, even the Test Page from Properties, the printing is in black and white (no color). When I print from the computer that is connected directly to the printer, or from any other computer on the network, the printout is in color. Note that the color option **is** enabled in the printer's Properties on the Vista computer. I have unloaded and reloaded the drivers repeatedly.

Jun 21, 2008Since installing SP1 on my desktop, I have experienced a very frustrating problem coming up over and over again. I try to set up or attach a USB device, and instead of connecting, I get a message that the driver can't be found and asking me to insert the disk. When I click that I don't have the disk, I invariably get a option to search for the driver, but it is never found. This has happened with two different flash drives, and just now I tried to set up a Pocket PC mobile device and got the same response. I have been using my laptop without SP1, and do not get these problems. It seems that the best thing might be to just get rid of SP1, but when I went to the installed updates window to try to uninstall it, I was not given that option

Check your e-mail security settings to determine how attachments are handled." Photo is attached to the e-mail and the photo file name appears in the subject line. Apr 14, 2009I would like to be able to attach photos to my hotmail email message like I formerly was able. by clicking on attach and pulling down "photo" from the choices. photo or file. This resulted in a box with thumbnail images of the photos in a folder I had chosen. My option now available in hotmail simply allows me to browse for a file to download, so if I want to attach 10 photos I have to choose each separately and the download is very much slower than it was with the other arrangement.
I looked on another desktop computer I have and I'm guessing I need download Microsoft Photo Upload Control on my laptop (Windows Vista). My desktop uses Windows XP. However, my laptop used to work fine with how I like to attach photos. I don't know if I updated some software that made the difference or what. I recently started using Mozilla Firefox, also. I can't remember if the photo attachment problem existed before Firefox was used or not.
Attach Folder Pics Does Not Allowed
Dec 17, 2009Is it not possible to attach a folder containing jpeg pics? It doesn't seem to be allowed. I was planning to send a compressed folder containing about 20 pics and thought this would save send/receive time.

I have sorted out most issues, but run into problems when I try to send an email with an attachment. I find the Word-doc on my disk and attach it correctly, but when I press send, Mail complains that it can't find the document. This is a stand-alone PC with my user as the only user, and with all admin privs. I have turned off the annoying feature of UAC. I have also installed MS Office 2007 Home, and from a word-doc, I can't send the doc to Mail (this option is greyed out).

Apr 15, 2009I have this problem since I use Vista and Windows Mail and it seems it's not Internet Explorer related, because it doesn't exist with Outlook Express and IE7/8. I think most of you know the feature some forums have, you get an eMail notice about a new posting in a thread you're watching. These notices usually contain a link to the new posting.
clicking on that url opens IE (or FF) and it directs you to the new posting. But when I click on it using Windows Mail in Vista (and I use IE) it opens the thread page in the forum that contains the new posting, but doesn't directly show it, so I often have to scroll till I found it. I noticed that IE just opens this url:
That means, the last part 208112 is missing and that's the reason why it just shows the current page (scrolled to top), but not the posting itself. Does anyone of you have a solution for that problem? I think it's kinda annoying, especially when there's more than 1 new posting in a forum
Thunderbird Forum Not Found
Jun 11, 2008I've had no luck at the Thunderbird forum. And this is one of those situations I find it hard to believe I'm inventing the wheel. Surely others have tackled this one. I tried one more measure this morning after googling around a bit: I told Vista to search hidden files and folders. But it still isn't finding my Thunderbird emails. A few days ago someone suggested going to microsoft and looking for an add-in or plugin. I didn't find anything there searching "thunderbird."

Mar 23, 2008Admittedly I may have done something to cause this but I can not get it right: Vista Home premium, 32 bit. New User, new PC. Had all data and music files on external HDD's. Moved data (documents, pictures) over last week, and moved Music files over to C drive today.
On Taskbar, at Start button, click on button, On right side of Start menu there are: under my picture, choices for "Me (user)", Documents, Pictures, Music, Games, then a divide and then, Search, Recent Items, Computer and so on. If I click on Documents I go to the folder with files of documents. Same with Pictures. The files from both Documents and Pictures came from an external HDD.............
Sprint Mobile Broadband Connection: Can't Access This Forum
Feb 21, 2008I have a new Dell and am using a Sprint Mobile Broadband connection and can't access this forum (using my Cox connection now.) It displays that "Internet Explorer Can't Display the Webpage." Do you think that is Sprint's fault or something in my Vista settings causing this. Probably Sprint as I CAN access it using Cox. But I want to make sure before I call them....
