I have a new Dell and am using a Sprint Mobile Broadband connection and can't access this forum (using my Cox connection now.) It displays that "Internet Explorer Can't Display the Webpage." Do you think that is Sprint's fault or something in my Vista settings causing this. Probably Sprint as I CAN access it using Cox. But I want to make sure before I call them....
View 6 RepliesI have a strange problem. I have AOL broadband and I'd like to connect to the internet without using the infamous bloated AOL software. I know how to do that using Vistas' "set up connection or network" wizard and I can successfully log in using by username and password. The problem is the connection is very poor when I use this method. The speed tests show the correct speed and downloads are full speed but pages seemingly randomly do not load (for long stretches of several minutes). For example my home page does not load ("page cannot load" error), google does not load, some pages load but not fully with many errors.
This isnt a browser issue (I tried firefox, IE, chrome), this isn't a modem/router issue (I have a laptop that works fine with a permanently logged in router), it's not an AOL issue I can still log in fine with AOL software and then browse fine with firefox, it's not a hardware issue, and it's not a firewall issue (it's off). Therefore it must be an issue with the way windows connects to my modem when using the built in PPPoE broadband connection. I really have no idea what could be wrong. Maybe one of you do?
I'm running Vista Home Premium 64 OEM on a Q6600+4gb ram+Asus P5N-E SLI. My favourite browser is Firefox and I installed version 2.0.0.4 and it runs fine. However I got prompted to upgrade to version 2.0.0.6 and when I did I lost my broadband connection completely. I've tried it several times and the same thing happens every time. Obviously I have disabled the update prompt and am running version 2.0.0.4 but I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if there is a way round it. I've tried to get onto mozillas forums but it keeps telling me I have typed in the fuzzy letter test thingy wrongly! Once again I've tried several times and been extra careful but they still won't let me register.

Whenever I start to use Mail, my Broadband connection disconnects, after a short time? When I use the Internet Browser, I have no problems. Has anyone seen this before and are there any fixes?
View 7 Replies View RelatedAs I've been enjoying Vista a LOT, I was looking in the Vista Tweaks section on Speedguide.net & found that MS Vista's new TCP IP stack has the ability to autotune broadband internet connections due to packet load and or router capabilities/defiencies (much like a "gamer" would be trying to do w/ proggies like TCP Optimizer) except that Vista can do this on the fly while you're surfing, playing MMOG's, etc. Speedguide noted that in Vista this is usually turned off by default but in Server 2008 this is turned on by default.
Now why would Redmond do that? I can understand why turning this on for server usage but I'm a big time online gamer & this ability caught my attention--do y'all know what it means to have a stable connection when you're in the middle of a big intense furball w/ a LOT of others trying to shoot you down? This kind of usage is very much like a server being pinged by LOTS of users trying to get their presentations, budgets, timesheets, projects, etc & IT checking the server as well because Joe can't get his presentation files to run off PowerPoint cause the server is too busy so they're in there checking for malicious "content" that may be using up needed resources....
So I went in & checked thru "elevated command prompt" & sure enough it was turned off. So I just went in & enabled it & set all up according to Speedguide's recommendations to see what Autotuning would do....All I can tell you is this:If you do a lot of online gaming you will WANT this on!Check it out at SpeedGuide.net :: Broadband · Cable · DSL · VoIP · Security · Network Tools I posted this here as I couldn't find any references to this tidbit here in this forum. I have been on the phone collectively for 6 hours with AT&T as well as had a technician out here to look at this problem. I have a new wireless router box. The whole At&T system went down briefly (tvs and all). When it booted back up my computer wouldn't recognize the wireless network. After getting a new box, it will now recognize the wireless network in my home. It says I am connected to the network with excellent strength but I still cannot get online. My desktop works fine and I plugged the ethernet cable into my computer and it still won't get online being hardwired to the router. My firewalls are turned off. View 5 Replies View RelatedThis is my brand new LaCie 320GB Hi-Speed USB2.0 Mobile Disk, which in the present circumstances, is neither hi-speed, nor anything else for that matter, other than an expensive, minimalist Paper-weight;
When I first plugged the unit into a USB port, everything went swimmingly. Auto-play popped up, and the Installation Wizard appeared even before I had a chance to rub the unit, and all went well with the setup until it came time to format the disk.
It is at this point that I became responsible for causing all the problems that I now have with the disk. Too late, I noted that instead of doing a Quick Format, as Mr. Wizard had instructed, I had hit the Full Format instead.
Well, the unit took off faster than Valentino Rossi from the front Grid, as it began to wink, blink and nod at a furious pace, on and on and on. For an hour and a half the poor thing raced like fury until I lost patience with the litte fellow and tried to abort the futile mission.
I tried to Safely Remove Hardware by right clicking the USB icon in my Notification Tray, but naturally Windows would not allow that because the hardware was still in use. This is the description of the Disk as it was running, while I unsuccessfully tried to stop it;
OK. I thought, 'Let's try a hard removal' and I pulled the USB on the disk. A few minutes later, I plugged the unit back in.....nothing, no Auto-play, no Mr. Wizard! So it was off to Start>Computer>Right click on (F) - Drive.... [with the MFC Name???], for this to happen;
So it's click on Format Disk button, and hopefully we're in business;
...and then, with Quick Format checked, I hit the Start button, and the !Warning! fires up;
That's OK, so I hit the OK button. But it's not OK...lots of "Dang!" sounds from the Laptop tell me that all is not well, and then as if by magic, up pops this delightful message, much like an invitation to a Funeral;
So it was back to the (F) - Drive to attempt to rename it and give it all another go. But wouldn't you know it? I need to format it first. See! A prime example of "Catch 22".
So while I'm considering the next move, insult is added to injury when this little number appears;
That's that then, and out comes the USB Plug again, because I still can't Safely Remove Hardware.
Where to now? Is there any hope to restore this reprobate disk to anything that is likely to function as it should? Or is it now just a candidate for disposal on eBay? Maybe I'll put it out of it's misery, and then bury it!
Vista recognizes my device and I can browse the contents of my device. But it won't sync - When I try to sync it says "There is a problem with your connections. Please disconnect and reconnect your device and try again". I have done that many times in addition to reinstalling the Device Center and rebooting. my ipaq is "ancient" by today's standards - it's OS is Windows CE 4.2 but there is a sticker on it that says Pocket PC 2003 Prem. w/ Outlook 2002 and a serial .
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have Windows Vista and when I connect my Hp2795b PDA to the cradle Window Mobile Device Center does not open. I installed the WMDC 6.1 and it still does not open. When I go to the start menu it is not listed there. When I go to the Add/remove programs in the control panel it is not listed there. If I go to WindowsMobile folder in the Windows folder there is a wmdSync.exe that when opened does not open an interface. It does show up in the task manager but only when I manually execute it from the folder that it is in. When I go to the Control Panel there is an Icon for WMDC that when opened pops up a box that asks me to allow USB connections and even says "Device Connected". When I click ok nothing further happens. I can view the device and what is on it in Windows Explorer. But since the
WMDC will not open, I am unable to sync anything.
WMDC (Windows Mobile Device Center) will not even open up for me.
I double click the icon in the control panel and nothing! I even tried to install the update and still nothing! Vista is crumbling away at my feet. I am having multiple problems and they are ALL Vista related not hardware, anti-virus related, or firewall related. I have a t-mobile wing. It used to sync up fine. But one day WMDC stopped working.

I have Vista 64 Home Prem verson, and I had a hard time to install WMDC 6.1 to my computer. When I installed this software, it said fail to install. Then told me to go to C:windowsMobile center and run setup from here. I did what it told me, but I can't get it to install. After this failure installation, I saw Windows Mobile Device Center from Start Program. I cliked on it, and it tried to install the WMDC again, then gave me the same error message. I spend hours and hours to google, but I can't find solution.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a Wireless Mobile Laser Mouse 6000 thinking it would be compatabile with Vista 64. After the computer sleeps or hibernates the scroll wheel slows down to a very slow crawl. I have to disconnect the nano receiver wait about 2 minutes and then reconnect.
View 4 Replies View Relatedusing the laptop through wireless I can see other computer and even list their shared folders but when I try to actually list files the connection timesout and gives an error os dennied access to the shared folder. If I try to use VNC for instance, the client connects, asks for pass and then after the remote screen starts to appear.. it hangs... no response after that . The strange part of the problem is that if I connect the laptop through a wired connection everything works ok I access shared folders, I print remotely, no problems. I tried a number of things , the most obvious, like firewalls diferent settings on the network etc. What I can't figure out is what can be so different in the PC for the wired to work but not the wireless.

I've tried disconnecting before going into sleep, but that hasn't worked. Diagnostics finds no problems and my power options are unchanged. I must either reboot or go into hibernation mode to get the connection back. There are no issues when I use hibernate. I've searched around and found no solutions,

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have this problem since I use Vista and Windows Mail and it seems it's not Internet Explorer related, because it doesn't exist with Outlook Express and IE7/8. I think most of you know the feature some forums have, you get an eMail notice about a new posting in a thread you're watching. These notices usually contain a link to the new posting.
clicking on that url opens IE (or FF) and it directs you to the new posting. But when I click on it using Windows Mail in Vista (and I use IE) it opens the thread page in the forum that contains the new posting, but doesn't directly show it, so I often have to scroll till I found it. I noticed that IE just opens this url:
That means, the last part 208112 is missing and that's the reason why it just shows the current page (scrolled to top), but not the posting itself. Does anyone of you have a solution for that problem? I think it's kinda annoying, especially when there's more than 1 new posting in a forum
I've had no luck at the Thunderbird forum. And this is one of those situations I find it hard to believe I'm inventing the wheel. Surely others have tackled this one. I tried one more measure this morning after googling around a bit: I told Vista to search hidden files and folders. But it still isn't finding my Thunderbird emails. A few days ago someone suggested going to microsoft and looking for an add-in or plugin. I didn't find anything there searching "thunderbird."

However many U.S. consumers dislike the idea and will gladly change carriers if their current BSP implements the restrictions.
ZoomIn Zeugma Systems’ recent survey conducted for the International Data Corporation (source), 81 percent of the 787 U.S. customers polled proclaimed their dislike for a Bandwidth cap and the additional charges for internet use beyond the limit. However, 83 percent had no idea what a gigabyte was or just how much bandwidth they actually consume. 51 percent of those polled added that they would actually switch service providers if broadband caps were set in place. Some even claimed to actually pay for additional premium services if necessary.
"These results are both an opportunity and a warning for BSPs," said Kevin Walsh, Zeugma Systems vice president of marketing. "The opportunity is that consumers are signaling a willingness to pay more for dedicated bandwidth over and above basic high speed internet for such services as premium internet video, VOIP, gaming, and corporate VPN access. The warning is a clear distaste for bandwidth caps. At a minimum, providers moving forward with bandwidth capping schemes may want to consider a more intelligent and flexible application of caps.”
Starting today, Comcast residential customers are now limited to 250 GB per month. The company claims that the new limit is more than enough for its customers, and will more than likely never surpass the limit. But considering the consumers who purchases games and movies online, this restriction may feel more like a punishment than means to save money on behalf of the BSP.
