I have a network setup between my PC and a laptop. both running vista. The network folders can be accessed from the laptop but not from the PC.the PC cannot even connect to its own shared files with the following error; ...is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The specified network provider name is invalid.
PC IP 192.168.1.3
LAPTOP IP 192.168.1.4
LAPTOP DEFAULT GATEWAY 192.168.1.3
networks are both set to private with discovery and file sharing on. both have password protected sharing.
I copied a large .dbf file and the dBaseIV program to my Vista computer, but the .dbf file cannot be accessed. Is there a way of accessing and using my .dbf file?
I try to share my printer on my network I get a error 0x00000709 make sure that you have typed the name correctly and that the printer is connected to the network. I can see the printer all looks good but I get this error.
It has been years, we have been transferring files between our home PCs and Laptops in our home network. But as we updated our Laptop with Vista SP1 & SP2, the network has become a one way only. We can transfer files to the rest of the network PCs, but the Vista Laptop does not let us in. We do see it listed in our network.
We had to re-format the laptop drive and as we loaded the Vista back again, we were able to transfer files two way, but as the SP1 and SP2 update was loaded, file transfer has become one way only. Did go through the setup on the Laptop drive as we did before. What are we missing in SP1 & SP2 updates?
I am trying to help someone running Vista Home Premium setup his network to share files and folders with his XP Home laptop. Oddly enough, there are no share options AT ALL. No share buttons or no share options in the context menus -- NOTHING. We've named the network and simply went out to share a printer (which we have the option to share) but it turns itself off. Same in Network and Sharing Center. We turn the options ON and then turn themselves OFF. We've done all the rebooting, etc. and still no go. I have gone through all the disabling of the UAC and ownership and permissions, et. al. but, can't get anywhere without the SHARE OPTION being available. Is his install of Windows Vista Home Premium broken or needing to be reinstalled? Could that be the problem? Could it have been setup improperly? I have successfully done this before on my Vista Business computer and my XP Pro laptop and although i did have a few 'permission' problems, they were at least workable.
I have both a Vista 32 & Vista 64 Acer laptop on the same LAN. Both connect well with the Internet. when I try to see the other computer's Public folder to share a file, I can't even find the other computer in the "Network" window, only the router and the computer I'm working on.
My elderly Mother's Vista PC isn't working, and as she relies on this for shopping etc I need to get it working (I am several hundred miles from her). The PC tried to install the latest Vista updates (20/2/2008) but upon restart she gets the message "Windows failed to restart - a recent hardware/software change may be the cause - File windowssystem32winload.exe "The selected file could not be loaded". She doesn't have a start in "normal mode" option. I have walked her through trying system repair/restore using the Vista installation Cd, but after trying to restore she gets the message; "system restore failed due to an unspecified error; "cannot create a file when that file already exists" (0x800700b7) We have tried 3 different restore points with the same result.
I hope I'm posting this in the right section. I have an old version of mavis beacon that I installed on vista and I it worked just fine. But today when I tried to use it, it kept closing. The error is related to the ntdll.dll file. Anyone know why this file would make this keep happen?
Problem signature Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: Mavis.exe Application Version: 1.0.0.1 Application Timestamp: 3592b413 Fault Module Name: ntdll.dll.....
I realize this may be off topic but I don't find any place to post it. I am trying to do a DOS coy command that combines a number of files into single one. This syntax works if I am in the directory where the files are located: Copy *.csv Prices.txt But if I am in another folder and try to put a path to it like copy C:FinanceMutual FundsGet Prices*.csv Prices.txt It always says it cannot find the file. I KNOW the location IS correct. Is there some error in the syntax that can cause this?
Upgraded to Vista Ultimate from XP. Boot drive is fine, but my 2nd drive, which is only used to store pictures, cannot be accessed. I know all the data is still there, because McAfee will scan the drive. My desktop picture is also still present. When in explorer and I click on the drive letter D, I get this message: "D: is not accessible. Access Denied". Am i missing a driver of some kind?
I have a file that I tried to delete. When attempting to delete, I receive a message saying the file name is to large. I moved the file to the recycle bin and ran the free up disk space and received the same message. I also tried to rename the file...no can do.
I have three problems which result in the 0x80071a91 error message and seem to be related to transaction support/resource manager. I found several KB articles and comments in this and other forums and tried the various fixes - none work - each is a pre-SP1 fix. My Vista system is: Factory Installed Vista Home Premium 64 bit SP1 with all updates on Gateway 4 core processor and less than three months in use.
PROBLEMS: 1) Attempting to run Backup at the point where the settings are to be saved. KB 939615 - Cannot change the settings for a file backup operation or use the Windows Task Scheduler to change the defrag schedule in WIndows VIsta. Transaction Manager Fix - 0x80071a91 error. A fourth problem may or may not be related - when I try to start Wsearch (Windosw Indexing Services) it stops within 3-5 seconds with the error msgs - 0x80040d23, 0x8007007e (VSS) finally 0x80071a91.and Events ID 1008, 1015, 1004 and 1008.
I have been trying to upgrade from Windows XP Tablet Edition to Vista Ultimate on my Travelmate C300 laptop. I have found the following error file after the install fails in the location: C:$WINDOWS.~BTSourcesPanther The file is called: setuperr.log The content is quite long but i will post it here -decipher it and advise how i can upgrade to Vista?

Im currently using cowon jet audio(latest version 7.1) on my laptop and pc, both computers are running vista home premium with the exception being the laptop on 32 bit and my main pc running 64 bit version. the media players works fine on my laptop in 32 bit no probs at all, but on my main pc its installs fine will play any individual file fine but the problems start when i try to group several files together to play as an an album. it tells me there was an error loading the skin file and i should try either another skin or search the web for new skins. (i have tried this and it doesnt work) ive also tried running in compatible mode with xp and no luck.
Two computers, one XP one Vista..have been networked for a while..currently can access XP from Vista, but not the other way around. Have tried it with firewalls on both computers turned off. I disabled firewall on the Vista machine AND XP, on XP clicked on MS Windows Network. get "workgroup", Click it and see names for both computers click vista machine and get "gamebox is not accessible. You might not have permission to access this network resource. contact system administrator... network path not found"
-set up wireless network: can see all of the shared folders on the XP machine from the Vista laptop, but can only see the Public folder on the Vista laptop from the XP machine. Several other folders, set up for sharing on the Vista laptop, can't be seen on the XP machine ("not accessible- you may not have permission to use this network resource").
- have tried both public and private settings on the Vista laptop- no difference
- Both machines are on the same workgroup
- Firewall is not part of the problem: Windows firewall is turned off on both machines, and problem persists when Kaspersky Internet Security's firewall is disabled
I have a desktop that is running 64 bit Ultimate and my laptop is running 32 bit Home Premium. I have the laptop set up as wireless and the desktop as direct connect to the router. I set up a home network so I can access my drives from either machine. I can access two desktop drives from my laptop, but it won't let me access some of the other drives. From the desktop, I cannot access any drives on the laptop. The drives that it won't let me access says "\BueningsMy Music is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Access is denied."
Why would it let me access some drives and not others? I have the Network Discovery amd File Sharing turned on. All other items are turned off, including Password Protected Sharing. I followed the steps of "Set up a connection or network" and it is set up as a Private Network. Let me know where things may be goofy or things to check. I'd like to get this going correctly if possible.
When i try to go in windows explorer, to C:Documents and Settings, i get the message "C:Documents and Settings is not accessible. Access is Denied". When i try to go to c:usersmaddie, i can go to most of the folders, but not all. the folders i cannot access are:
Application Data Cookies Local Settings My Documents NetHood PrintHood SendTo Start Menu Templates
maddie is an admin account. when i create another user (which is also an admin) and go to maddie's folder, most of these folders don't even exist. except for My Documents. and this other user CAN access maddie's 'My Documents'
just upgraded from windows XP 64 bit to Vista Home Premium 32 Bit and my second internal hard drive doesn't seem to be accessible. I believe the computer knows it exists, i just can't get to it. I don't want to have to reformat it because i have about 80 gigs of stuff I wanna keep on it.
I'm trying to look into my "Documents and Settings" subdirectory to find some configurtion files that Adobe apparently insists on storing there. Then I try to look there with the normal file Explorer I get an error message: "C:Documents and Settings is not accessible. Accessis denied" Now, I'm doing this from the main Admin control account. If the sys admin can't access the directory, who can? How do I get Vista to play nice?
I read an older thread on disabling/enabling Task Manager. I followed the instructions . . . but I must have a different issue regarding my Task Manager. When I control-alt-del and hit Task Manager, it comes up in my menu bar. When I try to bring it up to my screen, I see a flash waaay off to the left (off of my screen). It's apparently running, but I can't get to it I have tried the following but still having corrected the problem:
1. Removed all the spyware, etc that was on my machine 2. Ran "regedit" per various instructions (this forum's instructions were the only ones that I could actually follow and perform - which gives me great confidence that I'm at the right place - you guys are great!) 3. Restored computer 4. Tried resizing the screen to capture it I am the Administrator as this is my personal computer I just don't know what to do. I've tried everything I can think of.
A friend installed the Powerpoint viewer. He's still having problems with the file association throwing an error when doubling clicking in Windows Mail. I seem to recall that there was a specific Vista Bug/Fix in this area. Any pointers?
I ran windows update and the updates failed, I have sorted that out by stopping one update but now the computer wont boot without the vista disc being there. On start up everything is ok, it gets to verifying DMI datapool and I get a message something like File BootBCD - an error occured while attempting to read the boot config data ox000000f. I have run windows start up repair & this says it cant find a problem. I have used bootrec /scan and it returned 0 windows installs, /rebuild & Fixboot did nothing, I havent tried FixMbr cos I dont understand what that does and I dont want to make the problem worse - so long as I have the cd in I can ignore when it says press any key to boot from cd & it starts but why do I have to have the cd in? I tried one system restore but that made no difference, it seemed to say boot info wasnt part of the restore & I cant see anywhere to say I want that included but thats another question!
I upgraded my xp os to vista home premium 32bit. By mistake I uninstalled windows defender. When i tried to reinstall, I got a message that I already have it in the os. When I go into the control panel, and click on windows defender I get a no file association 0x80070002 message.
I am getting error messages when attempting to open a shared drive on XPx64-sp1 machine from Vistax64-sp2rc machine: Open Folder. ULTRA-WX64DTs01i (D) is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Not enough server storage is available to process this command. There are 5 machines in the LAN which are WX64-sp1, WX86-sp3, WV86-sp1, WV64-sp2rc, and W7x64. There is no problem among the latter 4 machines but a shared drive on WX64 can not be accessed from any of the latter 4 machines. There is no problem with RDC to the WX64 from any other machine.
I attempted to install on the WX64, Link Layer Topology Discovery(LLTD) Responder, KB922120, but an error message said that this is for different hardware platform, and could not install it. I noticed that the system event log showed system event ID of 2011. MS KB article says that resolution for this problem is modifying IRPStackSize value, so I did, but no go. The problem may be due to my dumb mistake or oversight somewhere.
I have a Patriot, 4 GB X-mini drive that has worked for nearly a year. However, when I tried to access it yesterday from My Computer, it gave me the following message: Please insert a disk into removable disk (F:). I went to properties through My Computer, and the drive came up as:
I tried to run an error check, but it keeps giving me this message: The disk check could not be performed because Windows cannot access the disk. I don't have any idea where to go from here, but due to the nature of some of the files I cannot access, it is important that I recover the data as soon as possible.
I have a vista machine, 32bit. I had it connected to my home network wirelessly and had a mapped network drive. I took the computer to a school, came home, and the mapped drive is no longer accessible.
1 - I have another Vista computer that has no problem connecting to the network drive.
2 - This computer still connects to the network, and has no problem going through the router and into the magical land of internet
3 - I recently bought an NAS, and again had no problem connecting the other Vista computer to the new drive. But, this computer will not map the drive. It is independent from the XP machine, so I know the XP vs Vista is not the problem.
When you empty files from the Recycle Bin, they get placed in C:$Recycle.Bin and the folder is hidden away. But I am trying to get into the folder so I can retrieve a file that I accidently deleted, but when I try to go into the folder I get this pop-up. How can I get into the folder if any account on windows is blocked from viewing it? Location is not available C:$Recycle.BinS-1-5-21-7200(more numbers) is not accessible.
"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create and association in the Set Associations control panel" I have been having a problem with my computer for several days now. Opening all programs causes me to recieve this error message. I have to use right click + Run as Administrator to use any of my programs. I have done some forum surfing and tried several recommended techniques for correcting this problem but to no avail. I downloaded the exefix_vista reg file but the very same problem prevents me from merging it (I even tried fixing the reg extension but that failed aswell). I have run the sfc/scannow in command propmt but that came up empty. I would have fresh installed but I am away from home and do not have the means to reinstall vista. I apologize if this post seems in any way redundant but my forum searches have failed me. HELP! PLEASE!
i'm trying to play a game (which i think is 16bit) i downloaded but it keeps coming up with an error message telling me that i'm missing the C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIG.NT file. i have looked up ways to fix this, but can only find solutions for Windows XP, & when i found a solution here from a user called Josh, he claimed there is an HKLM pathway in regedit but i don't see this my system is Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit.
I'm having a spot of bother with Windbg. I've been messing with a game and found whenever I try to assemble any instruction containing 'xmm0' I would recieve an 'Bad opcode error' warning. I've even tried copying an existing instruction ie, movaps [ecx],xmm0 and still get the same warning. If there are any Windbg users on this board can you please tell me the correct way to write 'xmm0' or any of the 8 xmm registers, to work with Windbg.
