The network folders can be accessed from the laptop but not from the PC.the PC cannot even connect to its own shared files with the following error; ...is not accessible. networks are both set to private with discovery and file sharing on. both have password protected sharing.
Upgraded to Vista Ultimate from XP. Boot drive is fine, but my 2nd drive, which is only used to store pictures, cannot be accessed. I know all the data is still there, because McAfee will scan the drive. My desktop picture is also still present. When in explorer and I click on the drive letter D, I get this message: "D: is not accessible. Access Denied". Am i missing a driver of some kind?

Have tried it with firewalls on both computers turned off. I disabled firewall on the Vista machine AND XP, on XP clicked on MS Windows Network. get "workgroup", Click it and see names for both computers click vista machine and get "gamebox is not accessible. You might not have permission to access this network resource. contact system administrator...

-set up wireless network: can see all of the shared folders on the XP machine from the Vista laptop, but can only see the Public folder on the Vista laptop from the XP machine. Several other folders, set up for sharing on the Vista laptop, can't be seen on the XP machine ("not accessible- you may not have permission to use this network resource").
- have tried both public and private settings on the Vista laptop- no difference
- Both machines are on the same workgroup
- Firewall is not part of the problem: Windows firewall is turned off on both machines, and problem persists when Kaspersky Internet Security's firewall is disabled
- user name is the same on both machines
I have a desktop that is running 64 bit Ultimate and my laptop is running 32 bit Home Premium. I have the laptop set up as wireless and the desktop as direct connect to the router. I set up a home network so I can access my drives from either machine. I can access two desktop drives from my laptop, but it won't let me access some of the other drives. From the desktop, I cannot access any drives on the laptop. The drives that it won't let me access says "\BueningsMy Music is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Access is denied."
Why would it let me access some drives and not others? I have the Network Discovery amd File Sharing turned on. All other items are turned off, including Password Protected Sharing. I followed the steps of "Set up a connection or network" and it is set up as a Private Network. Let me know where things may be goofy or things to check. I'd like to get this going correctly if possible.
When i try to go in windows explorer, to C:Documents and Settings, i get the message "C:Documents and Settings is not accessible. Access is Denied". When i try to go to c:usersmaddie, i can go to most of the folders, but not all. the folders i cannot access are:
Application Data
Cookies
Local Settings
My Documents
NetHood
PrintHood
SendTo
Start Menu
Templates
maddie is an admin account. when i create another user (which is also an admin) and go to maddie's folder, most of these folders don't even exist. except for My Documents. and
this other user CAN access maddie's 'My Documents'
just upgraded from windows XP 64 bit to Vista Home Premium 32 Bit and my second internal hard drive doesn't seem to be accessible. I believe the computer knows it exists, i just can't get to it. I don't want to have to reformat it because i have about 80 gigs of stuff I wanna keep on it.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to look into my "Documents and Settings" subdirectory to find some configurtion files that Adobe apparently insists on storing there. Then I try to look there with the normal file Explorer I get an error message: "C:Documents and Settings is not accessible. Accessis denied" Now, I'm doing this from the main Admin control account. If the sys admin can't access the directory, who can? How do I get Vista to play nice?

When I control-alt-del and hit Task Manager, it comes up in my menu bar. When I try to bring it up to my screen, I see a flash waaay off to the left (off of my screen). It's apparently running, but I can't get to it I have tried the following but still having corrected the problem:
1. Removed all the spyware, etc that was on my machine
2. Ran "regedit" per various instructions (this forum's instructions were the only ones that I could actually follow and perform - which gives me great confidence that I'm at the right place - you guys are great!)
3. Restored computer
4. Tried resizing the screen to capture it I am the Administrator as this is my personal computer I just don't know what to do. I've tried everything I can think of.
I am getting error messages when attempting to open a shared drive on XPx64-sp1 machine from Vistax64-sp2rc machine: Open Folder. ULTRA-WX64DTs01i (D) is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Not enough server storage is available to process this command. There are 5 machines in the LAN which are WX64-sp1, WX86-sp3, WV86-sp1, WV64-sp2rc, and W7x64. There is no problem among the latter 4 machines but a shared drive on WX64 can not be accessed from any of the latter 4 machines. There is no problem with RDC to the WX64 from any other machine.
I attempted to install on the WX64, Link Layer Topology Discovery(LLTD) Responder, KB922120, but an error message said that this is for different hardware platform, and could not install it. I noticed that the system event log showed system event ID of 2011. MS KB article says that resolution for this problem is modifying IRPStackSize value, so I did, but no go. The problem may be due to my dumb mistake or oversight somewhere.
I have a Patriot, 4 GB X-mini drive that has worked for nearly a year. However, when I tried to access it yesterday from My Computer, it gave me the following message: Please insert a disk into removable disk (F:). I went to properties through My Computer, and the drive came up as:
Nameless
File System: Unknown
Used Space: 0 bytes
Free Space: 0 bytes
Capacity: 0 bytes
I tried to run an error check, but it keeps giving me this message: The disk check could not be performed because Windows cannot access the disk. I don't have any idea where to go from here, but due to the nature of some of the files I cannot access, it is important that I recover the data as soon as possible.
I have a vista machine, 32bit. I had it connected to my home network wirelessly and had a mapped network drive. I took the computer to a school, came home, and the mapped drive is no longer accessible.
1 - I have another Vista computer that has no problem connecting to the network drive.
2 - This computer still connects to the network, and has no problem going through the router and into the magical land of internet
3 - I recently bought an NAS, and again had no problem connecting the other Vista computer to the new drive. But, this computer will not map the drive. It is independent from the XP machine, so I know the XP vs Vista is not the problem.
When you empty files from the Recycle Bin, they get placed in C:$Recycle.Bin and the folder is hidden away. But I am trying to get into the folder so I can retrieve a file that I accidently deleted, but when I try to go into the folder I get this pop-up. How can I get into the folder if any account on windows is blocked from viewing it? Location is not available C:$Recycle.BinS-1-5-21-7200(more numbers) is not accessible.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an external drive on my vista machine that has gives "Users" full control. I just found out that the guest account is part of the "Users" group. Is there a group that does not include the guest account? Basically I don't want to have my backup drive accessible to the guest account. Is that possible without replacing "Users" with each individual account?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI know this problem is has alot of words to read but please read it. Yesterday my 500gb capacity drive (i have used up 15gb space) worked fully which I named BX2BXsq The next time I got to use my drive, lots of folders were deleted. I restarted my computer and accessed my drive and this error came up E: is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. My hard drive makes a funny clicking sound. I took my hard drive off and then on using another usb port and now it was called Local Disk. I took my hard drive off and then tried putting it into a mac (Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger) and the mac said that the drive was unreadable. Now when putting my hard drive in my Windows XP computer, and a speech bubble came up saying that my hardware was not recognised. I know for a fact that my hard drive still has precious valuable data. So have you got any ideas to recover data from my hard drive.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy wife and I just got new laptops with Vista Home Premium. In File Explorer we both have several folders with blue shortcut arrows next to them, and they can't be accessed. From reading past posts, I gather these are not real, but virtual, but my question is how do I get rid of them. I don't want them cluttering up my file management windows, and I am tired of accidentally clicking on them and getting an error message.
View 4 Replies View Relatedwhen i turn on my computer, an error message comes saying "Windows failed to load because a file is missing or corrupt File: Netio.sys Status: 0xc0000221" This started when i was clearing my computer of useless programs, and after i deleted Realtime player or Quicktime player, (can't remember which) an error message jumped from the taskbar saying something about Network device driver. After that every time i start the computer, the "Windows failed to load" message pops up. The first half a year, it was solved by pressing enter, to "Choose an operating system to start: Windows Vista" and then to "Windows error recovery (start windows normally, safe mode etc)" and back to "Windows failed to start", repeating it 3-20 times. Then i had a familiar "Unexpected shutdown" during a game, and now, the "Enter spamming technique" doesn't work anymore. All i can access at the moment is Windows memory diagnostic tool, and Bios setup utility. Is there any way to fix this through the setup utility or some other manner?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI can't find a way to search for file types in Vista without entering part of a file name. For example, if I want to search my C drive for all PDF files or all photos, the search function won't work without entering text from a file name (which doesn't work, because all files of a particular type don't necessarily share letters or characteristics in their names). Has anyone else experienced this problem, or am I missing something?
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhenever I request a "File|Open" or "File|Save" from any application, the mini-Windows-Explorer dialog box that opens freezes and hangs the entire application. Happens with almost all applications. Not limited to just Microsoft programs. It does not matter if I like change the download folder or if I rt click always the same.
Back when it was under warranty Hp tells me to just restore to original settings. I hate to do that. But I am about to see that this might be the only fix for it. (But I am hoping not.) I think it started a long time ago when I was changing the USB ports I used for my external Hard drive and it changed drive letter. (maybe maybe not.. just seems I remember that being something that had happened when I first recall things hanging...) anyway I have all drives in the place I want them now and this issue still happens even if I dont have that external drive plugged in.
When I open a folder with a list of files for all View Options, the files are not listed in proper ascending sequence. I indexed the files to make sure that indexing may not be the factor in the Sort By Name not working properly. After the files were indexed, clicked the Sort By Name item in the View menu item, and the files are stilled not sorted porperly. Has anyone encountered this similar problem ? I suspect this may be a bug in Windows Vista File System. The folder had 87 files in it.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI had tried to move a file from another folder to my desktop. File move was taking forever and I had cancelled out. But it created a file on my desktop which is corrupted and the original file is corrupted (neither will open). I cannot delete this file from my desktop or other location now and it has seemed to slow down my PC. When I try to delete, I get a popup box that says "Recycling 1 item... from Desktop, Discovered 0 items (0 bytes)" and it just stays in an neverending do loop. After looking on internet, I have seen that Vista has issues deleting or even moving files.

I am saving a new Excel file to a directory and I want to give it a similar name as a text file that already resides in that directory. However, when I "Save As" the Excel file in the selected directory, the only other files I see in that directory are other Excel files. I don't see any of the other files that I know are in there (Word, Powerpoint, pdf, etc.). In prior versions of Excel, I have been able to see all of the files in a
destination directory....is that still possible with Office 2007 with Windows Vista?
i'm trying to change the Start Menu icon on my Vista 32-bit. I have looked EVERYWHERE and the only way it appears to be possible is by downloading a program caled ResHack. I did, but all the tutorials are saying to open the explorer.exe file and either look for a 6801.bmp file, which I don't have (looks like it's only on Windows 7), or to look for a "String Table" folder which I don't have either.I added a screenshot of the folders I get when I open explorer.exe in ResHack. PLEASE tell me if I have some kind of fake Vista version (which is weird because it was already installed when I bought the computer from the store) or what is going on?
