Run Sound Cards In Vista X-64, 4 Gigs Of Ram?
May 16, 2008(1) Would i be able to run some sound cards in vista x-64 with greater then 4 gigs of ram....lets say 8 gigs of ram?

4 Gigs DDR3 Ram Showing At 2 Gigs In Vista 64
Dec 15, 2008I have a really weird issue, here are the details.Firstly, as stated in the title i do have Vista 64 bit. Recently bought 2x2 Gig DDR3 1600 (corsair TW3X4G1600C9DH) with timings 9-9-9-24. My motherboard is an Asus P5Q3 Deluxe. This chipset (Intel P45) has know issues with DDR3 running at higher than 1066, but this has supposedly been rectified with a BIOS update which i have flashed, so not sure if that is relevant as my problem is not speed related.
Under system properties the ram is shown as 4 Gigs but in task manager it says: Physical Memory, Total: 2046. The usage graph shows about 1.1 used and is just over half-way full. Not sure if this is valid but i have a pre-release SP2, not sure if this could cause such a problem. CPU-z shows both modules are there, but shows total 4 gigs, however Everest only shows 2 Gigs. Screenshot below, hope this is not too big, but theres a lot of info to squeeze in.
Multiple Sound Cards, Crashed
Sep 23, 2007Fresh to the meat grinder, I installed Vista. Little did I know the torment that would ensue. I thought people were exaggerating when they said how much it crashed. Well, it's still crashing, though only every hour or so instead of every 5 min, so for now that's fine... But my question involves the configuration of multiple outputs in Vista! If you recall, in XP there was a nifty section of the control panel where you could select the default output device for various things: MIDI, Audo, etc.
If I set my default audio device to my USB soundcard, I could listen to the games I was playing. If I also set the default MIDI to my sound card, Media Player would produce soothing tunes to my slaughter in Counterstrike, through the speakers in my room. I had the voice settings configured even, to use my headset for both input and output (It's a nice headset!)
Vista 64 & 4 Gigs RAM Unlesss Spend
Aug 4, 2009I wanted to know if I can use 4 gigs of RAM on Vista 64 as opposed to 8 gigs? I will be using this rig mostly for gaming. I haven't had any luck finding two 4 gig packs of memory locally unless I spend a lot of money. Could I use four 2 gig sticks of the same mfg? I am hesitant not to use bundled memory if I want 8 gigs.

Jun 28, 2006Currently Windows Vista does not have WDDM support for the Intel GMA950 integrated graphics card. Even though this card is integrated, it supports all of the requirements for Vista Glass. It is just a matter of getting a driver that is compatible with it and vista.
After doing a ton of research, I found that there is another driver that you can actually use for now. There are some problems with it, such if you have a laptop, the external monitor port does not always work but other than that it works great for me on my Lenovo X60.
This is how I got Vista Glass to run on a GMA950:
First, I had to open up device manager. Click on the start menu and type in devmgmt.msc and Enter to load it up.
Once there, expand the Display Adapters section and right click on each device and select Uninstall.
Reboot the computer.
When it restarts, it should install a generic video driver so your screen will still work.
Go back into Device Manager, expand the Display Adapters section again and then right click on the device and select Update Driver.
This time select Browse My Computer for Driver and then Let me pick it from a list.
Go the the Intel section and select the Intel(R) Lakeport Graphics Controller.
Hit OK and install the new driver. Restart your computer.
Once you have rebooted, right click on your desktop and select Personalize again.
Click on Windows Colors and Appearance.
Click on Open classic appearance properties for more color options.
In the Color Scheme box, select Windows Vista Aero.
Hit OK and glass will now load.
If glass does not work for you, go back to Device Manager and ...
Regarding 32X And 4 Gigs Of Ram

I have 4 gigs of Ram (1 x 2 Gig stick and 2 X 1 gig Sticks) My Board is listed in my Specs (And yes i grouped the two single gig sticks together on the same channel thing.) So i was wondering why it shows up as 3326 MB Instead of just 4 Gigs. My Buddy says its a Binary thing and the way that the computer reads the Ram, but my Task Manager says the same thing too, and i just want to make sure that this really is just a cosmetic thing. Now i would like to put another 4gigs of ram on mysystem and just wanted to make sure that it would accept more. I plan onputting windows 7 x64 on it shortly. May 29, 2008I think this is a bios update thing - although I can not get an update from msi as their update thing doesn't support 64 bit os. Here's the poop. Windows will boot with 1, 2, and 3 one gig modules in all different combos but when I stick in the 4th it doesn't even get to post. However, when I take out the cmos battery, then replace it along with the 4 gigs installed - it boots, but with a beep and a post that says bad checksum and something about setting the clock. If I select go ahead with the default settings it boots right into windows and things are sweet. But from there if I reboot I'm back to square 1. If I select at the post thing (f1) to go in to change the clock - then f10 out, I'm again back to square one.

Nov 9, 2009so i have an E-machines T5082, i upgraded the Ram, put a better Graphics card in it, the like A few years ago after tinkering around with some weird stuff that i didn't understand, my drive got smaller. After looking around i learned that i had partitioned it or the like, so i deleted the partition and the drive went back to normal. A virus later took hold and the partition thing happened again.
Long story short, for some reason, i am missing 11 Gigs from my HDD, and i KNOW its not Windows Vista taking 11 gigs. I mean, in My Computer, its reading my HDD as 149 GB instead of 160 like it USED TO. How can I get back these 11 gigs, WITHOUT reformatting or anything like that?
64bit: How To Upgrade 4 Gigs Of Ram
Apr 19, 2009im going to be putting another 4 gigs of ram into my machine when I get my new motherboard. I am going to need to upgrade from Vista Ultimate 32bit to Vista Ultimate 64bit. I know there's no native support to just upgrade, so I was wondering if someone knew the easiest way to do this. I especially don't want to have to reinstall my programs and games, so is it possible just to back up my program files and copy them into the new program files folder? Also, is there any way to transfer the registry information? I know the registry's won't be compatible, but is there some sort of 32 to 64 conversion method?

Jan 3, 2009I know the machine I have upgraded to vista 64 bit ultimate is not the ideal machine to do this on.. But I am going to eventually upgrade the hardware thats slacking. Apr 28, 2009I am running vista 64 bit with 12 gigs-intel i7 cpu 965, and it is only showing 8gb in system props but when I do a cpuid test it shows all 12...i have tried flashing bios and just about everything to get it to show without luck. May 10, 2008I have Vista x32 SP1 installed. The installation went fine, but I have noticed after the Conexant HD Audio driver update I had a no-sound issue. This went away after a restart. I then installed SP1 via WU and I again had a no-sound issue. I searched for an answer and found that someone had opened device manager, scanned for new hardware and was able to hear sound again. Well, I too am able to do this (open device manager,etc), but I have to do this ever time I resume windows from hibernation or after restarting to have sound. Is there some other way I can resolve this issue without accessing device manager after every restart/resume?

Mar 9, 2009When i had XP on my computer everything was working fine. I did an overlay of Vista and now any audio device with a jack won't work.. My USB headphones do... I have gone through all the playback settings, searched through all of control panel to do with sound. I have downloaded the necessary realtek drivers (High Definition Audio Device) and nothing. I have also tried plugging the jack in the front instead of the back. The speakers work on any XP machine... just having troubles with my vista machine.

Jul 25, 2007I have an expensive motherboard (ASUS P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe) with 5.1 sound (Realtek AC'97) IO on the back panel and an internal 10 pin (with 2 pins missing) AC'97 header to which I should be able to attach the AC'97 lead from my case's front panel headphone + mic sockets.
However, when I plug in the internal header, I lose the front left and right speakers from my 5.1 back panel socket (without getting it out the front socket either). I assume this is something to do with the way vista has only one "speakers" thing in control panel's "sound" thing and how it detects if things are unplugged. The only way I have been able to get the back panel sound back has been to unplug the front panel from the internal IO header.
Does anyone know how to fix this so that I can use both the front panel (headphones) and back panel (speakers) without turning my computer off to attach a lead to the motherboard?

I have just bought a new one and used it in a camera. The camera confirms that there are saved photos on the card but when I connect it to the SD slot on the computer nothing seems to happen. I do notice a green light appears next to the slot on the computer as if it is reading something, but, having left it for 10 mins, nothing else has happened.
