I am running vista 64 bit with 12 gigs-intel i7 cpu 965, and it is only showing 8gb in system props but when I do a cpuid test it shows all 12...i have tried flashing bios and just about everything to get it to show without luck. I was hoping someone had something similar and could share the fix.
View 6 RepliesI have a really weird issue, here are the details.Firstly, as stated in the title i do have Vista 64 bit. Recently bought 2x2 Gig DDR3 1600 (corsair TW3X4G1600C9DH) with timings 9-9-9-24. My motherboard is an Asus P5Q3 Deluxe. This chipset (Intel P45) has know issues with DDR3 running at higher than 1066, but this has supposedly been rectified with a BIOS update which i have flashed, so not sure if that is relevant as my problem is not speed related.
Under system properties the ram is shown as 4 Gigs but in task manager it says: Physical Memory, Total: 2046. The usage graph shows about 1.1 used and is just over half-way full. Not sure if this is valid but i have a pre-release SP2, not sure if this could cause such a problem. CPU-z shows both modules are there, but shows total 4 gigs, however Everest only shows 2 Gigs. Screenshot below, hope this is not too big, but theres a lot of info to squeeze in.
So, just wondering. I have 4 gigs of Ram (1 x 2 Gig stick and 2 X 1 gig Sticks) My Board is listed in my Specs (And yes i grouped the two single gig sticks together on the same channel thing.) So i was wondering why it shows up as 3326 MB Instead of just 4 Gigs. My Buddy says its a Binary thing and the way that the computer reads the Ram, but my Task Manager says the same thing too, and i just want to make sure that this really is just a cosmetic thing. Now i would like to put another 4gigs of ram on mysystem and just wanted to make sure that it would accept more. I plan onputting windows 7 x64 on it shortly. View 9 Replies View RelatedI think this is a bios update thing - although I can not get an update from msi as their update thing doesn't support 64 bit os. Here's the poop. Windows will boot with 1, 2, and 3 one gig modules in all different combos but when I stick in the 4th it doesn't even get to post. However, when I take out the cmos battery, then replace it along with the 4 gigs installed - it boots, but with a beep and a post that says bad checksum and something about setting the clock. If I select go ahead with the default settings it boots right into windows and things are sweet. But from there if I reboot I'm back to square 1. If I select at the post thing (f1) to go in to change the clock - then f10 out, I'm again back to square one.
View 7 Replies View Relatedso i have an E-machines T5082, i upgraded the Ram, put a better Graphics card in it, the like A few years ago after tinkering around with some weird stuff that i didn't understand, my drive got smaller. After looking around i learned that i had partitioned it or the like, so i deleted the partition and the drive went back to normal. A virus later took hold and the partition thing happened again.
Long story short, for some reason, i am missing 11 Gigs from my HDD, and i KNOW its not Windows Vista taking 11 gigs. I mean, in My Computer, its reading my HDD as 149 GB instead of 160 like it USED TO. How can I get back these 11 gigs, WITHOUT reformatting or anything like that?
im going to be putting another 4 gigs of ram into my machine when I get my new motherboard. I am going to need to upgrade from Vista Ultimate 32bit to Vista Ultimate 64bit. I know there's no native support to just upgrade, so I was wondering if someone knew the easiest way to do this. I especially don't want to have to reinstall my programs and games, so is it possible just to back up my program files and copy them into the new program files folder? Also, is there any way to transfer the registry information? I know the registry's won't be compatible, but is there some sort of 32 to 64 conversion method?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI know the machine I have upgraded to vista 64 bit ultimate is not the ideal machine to do this on.. But I am going to eventually upgrade the hardware thats slacking. I cannot get my pc to work with 8 gigs of ram. Tried 6, no luck.. only 4 gigs will allow the system to boot. I get an alert saying the system memory has increased when I have all 8 gigs snapped in, press the required key to continue then the screen goes blank, tried waiting a little to see if OS would load, but no dice. according to www.crucial.com, my pc will support 8 gigs. I have gone to dells support page and there are no vista drivers available

I haven't had any luck finding two 4 gig packs of memory locally unless I spend a lot of money. Could I use four 2 gig sticks of the same mfg? I had 4GB physical memoryon the PC. With Windows vista 32 bit, available memory is shown as 3.3GB. I asked and was told that only under 64 bit windows, will the available memory be 4GB. When I upgraded to windows 7, I chosed 64 bit, but the available memory shown in the system is still 3.3 GB. Why is this and is there a way to make the full 4GB available? It's possible that my video card is using RAM instead of its own RAM. If I install a video card with its own RAM, will the full 4GB be available?

I have noticed an svchost.eve process runs each time I reboot which seems to bloat constantly although when I close it down it only frees up about 800MB, what's happening to the rest of my 8GB??? When I launch Task Manager it says I'm only using 10% Memory but free RAM sits at 0?!?!

The machine is new, and I was trying out some apps and games, I was in Secondlife when I got an error messege saying I was out of memory and needed to free up memory. I shut down the app and restarted it. Runs but I watched Task manager and saw my free memory down to almost nothing after an hour or so. The cached seems very high.
I did alittle research and decided to set a second page file on my 1TB hard drive, (OS is on the other HHD's )( regulated by system for size ) I'm not really sure whats going on. Example of just task manager and this page openis attached. Again, any help would be great in getting the memory set up on here optimal.
I have 6gigs of DDR3 memory at 1600hz. Running on Vista 64bit and every now and again my memory performance just maxes out. The problem can occur around the time when I am installing something but I dont think its always this way. I have read forums where it could be the hardrives performing self diagnostics. I have all the latest patches for vista.

Windows is reporting 8 GB of Installed Physical Memory but is reporting only 4 GB of Total Physical Memory. I first noticed this when, after installing a game, the game system specs said 3092 MB of RAM.
I have checked the BIOS and it recognizes 8 GB. Memory Remapping is Enabled. Under Memory Remapping is "PCI MMIO Allocation: 4GB to 3328 MB" (?). MSConfig Boot Options shows Max Memory is not checked and no value in the box below. I tried enabling it and using 8192 as the value, but it made no difference. DxDiag shows 8 GB installed RAM. how I can get windows to make available all 8 GB of RAM? I have a lot of misc. cds that a friend who passed away made. They are pics & music mostly. Some slide shows too but I can't get them to open anywhere.
I told his wife I'd go through them but impossible if my computer won't read them. I believe most of them were made on XP and I have Vista. Called Gateway but they didn't know. I tried a couple on an HP with XP and they all were read. Does anyone know if this is a Vista problem or is it my computer?
My warranty is up in May so I'm hoping if it's the computer I'll have time to get it fixed under warranty.
Another Vista Ultimate 32bit weird prob I have. Whenever I insert any disc be it CD/DVD, and I double-click on the DVD icon to open it, I keep getting "Prepare this disc" option to Live format the disc. The disc could be anything a closed session disc, a manufacturer disc, I keep getting this prob. So only two ways to go ahead.
1. I've DOpus - Directory Opus, an alternative to Windows Explorer in which I can Sometimes view the disc, though not always
2. The best way I've figured out is for me to simply click "Next" and wait for Windows to tell me that it cannot format my disc and then I can access the contents.
3. Auto-run registry fix doesnt cure it. (updated after flavirus replied)
Any Ideas why this is happening? I uninstalled the drivers of my drives, I've two, Sony DVD-writer SATA and Lite-on DVD-writer IDE. In WinXP I didn't have this prob with these drives, so i know this is a software issue.
I have an emachine w3619 with dual core 2160 intel, 1.5 gig ram and windows vista 32 bit home premium. Recently my cd/dvd drive stopped reading cds. When i went into device manager it said the device was functioning properly and the drivers were up to date. I uninstalled the cd/dvd rom drive and restarted that did not fix the problem either. I deleted the upper and lower filters through regedit as some people had mentioned this did not fix the problem for me. My cd/dvd rom shows up in "computer" but always acts as if the drive is empty. Anyone else had the same problem?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been using an SD card in my laptop for portable storage for ~6 months. Suddenly, I have started getting an error message saying that "Disk is write protected." The tab on the SD card is in the unlock position. I have tried using the properties window to change it but their is no option to change it from Read Only or Change Permissions. If I click on a folder on the SD card and try to change it via the Properties Windows the window says that it is "Read Only" but when I uncheck "Read Only," it says I can't
because the disk is Read Only. And again I can't find any option to change
ownership or permissions.
I have copied all my internet favourites folders in from Windows XP (IE7). I didn't use a password in XP and still don't in Vista.
Now, I can't organise or add-to any of the folders in Vista. It says they are read-only.
When I display the properties of the folders, they have a green square (mixed content) in the read-only tick-box. I switch it off and accept the prompt which says that it will apply to files and sub-folders.
But when I go to use them they are still read-only, and when I look at their properties, they are unchanged - still flagged with mixed content. And I still can't organise or add to them.
This morning I was able to access my SD card for my camera with no problem. But then all of a sudden I went to download some pictures that I had taken afterwards and the computer doesn't recognize the card. When I unplug it from the reader it does the ejection sound but when I plug it in it gives an error sound (three small low grade beeps). I put the SD back in my camera and the pictures are still there. Why is Vista not recognizing the card all of a sudden?

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy company has an Excel application we have developed and we use an Installer program to distribute it. The installer default is to install the program into a Program File that is named. This works flawlessly on xp but on any computer that has Vista installed, the file opens in Read Only, which defeats our entire application. The read only format can not be changed in any of the obvious ways (under Properties etc). This is a huge problem for us. Is there any way around it?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm messing around with this motherboard my dad had RMA'd to see if I can turn it into a usuable computer. Works fine but the one thing that's got me perplexed is the DVD drives plugged into it. The DVD writer seems to "read when it wants to", which is really weird. A lot of the time, it just won't read anything but sometimes it does read discs (I even burnt a disc using it). The drive is there in Windows Explorer and the BIOS also catches it but I can't get it to boot from the DVD drive (but it DID boot once so I managed to install Windows from it). In Windows I put discs in and it makes no attempt to read them...unless it suddenly WANTS to read them and then does. Does this make any sense? A drive almost literally reading discs when it feels like it wants to read them.
