Restart After Installation, Screen Blanks

Feb 18, 2008

I did a full format/reinstall of my drive and whenever i try to install my 8800 GTS's (G92) drivers, i go to restart the computer after installation and the screen blanks and says no input detected although i can shut the computer down with the windows key command. So basically my problem is not that Vista isn't running, it's that i don't see anything.

Screen Blanks Out After Waking Up Sleep

Jun 26, 2008

I have an Acer Aspire 5100 that came installed with Vista Home Premium. I upgraded to SP1 and, after upgrading to 4 gigs of ram i learned because Acer messed up video addressing, i can only get 2.96gb when i'm using 64mb of ram for video...increasing the amount makes the amount of ram to windows drop exponetally (at 256mb i've only got 2 gigs..it's wasting almost half the ram)...but that's not my issue..i'll never get it resolved becuase Acer is none-too-interested in actually doing anything to fix it and telling me it's "my problem". Oh well.

I do have a strange issue. When I take my laptop out I generally put it to sleep...I don't like hibernate..it's never worked for me in the past and sleep is just so much faster and convient. The sleep mode has worked surprisingly well for me, but i'm notcing a strange oddity. Every once in a while after bringing the laptop out of sleep mode...the screen will come on...but then it'll flicker out. If i can manage to click on the password prompt before it turns off and enter my password, the screen will come back on after the session logs in...however most of the time I have to put it back to sleep and wake it back up.

this really isn't a major major problem..i know nothing is going to work flawlessly all the time. I'm just wondering if anyone else has seen this behavior and if they fixed it, what they did to do so. I can live with it, but it'd be nice to see it gone too, ya know? Other than that...and the time the kernel-driver framework driver died...I'm quite impressed with Vista..it's turning out to be a rather usable OS.

Cannot Restart Installation

May 2, 2008

I Just got a new computer and upon first turning it on my daughter accidentally hit the button on my power strip turning the computer off mid-installation. Now when I turn on my computer it looks as if windows is trying to start but goes to a message stating "Windows could not complete the installation. To install windows on this computer, restart the installation." I then click "OK" and it just brings me back to the same message after re-starting. Could anyone please help me get this thing back on track?

Installation PCPitstop Optimize2: Pc Do Not Restart

Jun 4, 2008

A failed application installation (PCPitstop Optimize2 - but they say they've never heard of my problem) sent my Home Premium PC into chaos. Then a spiral of attempted repairs led to serious startup failures, with Startup Repair launching each time. Eventually I seemed to find a Restore Point which worked well enough to reinstall and update my Bullguard security suite and online data backups, and my SpySweeper antispyware protection. I could also get into Safemode again - but only by setting this in System Configuration - not with F8 presses. (In fact on the initial boot-up screens, if I do get to options pages at all the up/down arrows don't work and I always have to accept the default option anyway.)

But after about a week of OK operation that included various restarts the startup failure problem has returned - requiring one or more restores to get started at all. I now dare not heed the Microsoft nag messages about restarting (so as to complete the repeated updates installations that the restores have removed). Also one unanswered post to a forum cited another problem that I now find I have too - that while the nags remain active, burning data to a backup CD fails to complete and the drive freezes...

Unexpected Error: Restart Computer And Installation Of Windows

Apr 26, 2009

I have a Dell Inspiron 1521 laptop that this past week decided to do a Windows update and afterwards was running at 100% cpu and really slow. After everything I did and everything I knew to do I decided to clean the HD and re-install the OS. I partitioned the HD and tried to install Vista. It got all the way thru to the point it was "suppose" to reboot and ask for my name and comp info and just shut down. When I turned it back on a window popped up saying something to the effect of "windows restared unexpectedly or had an unexpected error please select ok to restart your computer and installation of Windows" so then I have to re-install all over again and it failed again and again. I ran the pre-boot system assessment and found out my HD crashed. I installed a new HD and ran the pre-boot assessment again and everything checks out but I'm still getting the box to pop up cause it keeps turning itself off at the same point as I mentioned above. I can't/ don't know how to get into DOS so I can check the motherboard but I'm getting ready to throw this thing up against the wall.

Restart: Get Blue Screen Message

Apr 18, 2009

I shut down my computer during a windows update and now every time I restart I get a blue screen message that lasts for about a second and then my computer restarts itself again. It does this every time. I'm operating in safe mode right now. I'm sorry if this sounds vague, I'm not very good with computer terms and stuff, but I'll give more details if I need to.

Shutdown Or Restart Gives Blue Screen

Feb 24, 2010

After working well for months, my Vista Home Premium x64 system has developed a bad bug: Every time I try to do Shutdown or Restart, right after displaying "Shutting down", the system crashes with a Blue Screen of Death message: "SPECIAL_POOL_DETECTED_MEMORY_CORRUPTION" with gdrv.sys as the offending driver. This makes it impossible to do a smooth restart, since I have to do a manual reboot at that point every time.

This behavior does NOT happen in Safe Mode, only in normal mode. That leads me to believe it's a software bug. But I've used verifier.exe and still can't find a driver that's faulty. Verifier.exe can't find anything wrong with gdrv.sys.

Pc Restart Proceeds Black Windows Screen

Apr 28, 2009

I am doing a clean install of Vista 64 Ultimate SP1. At the partition screen I select load drivers (I obtained drivers directly from Gigabyte Support). Windows installs the ACHI10 drivers with no problem. I select ?Next? to begin the install. After ?Completing Installation? the PC restarts and proceeds to the black Windows screen with the green scroll bar. It scrolls two or three times and then hangs. I then go into Safe Mode where the computer hangs at crcdisk.sys. An error message then returns that says ?Windows cannot finish the installation?. My only remaining option is to try and repair from the CD. But when I select ?The repair option? the blue repair bar scrolls indefinitely. I actually let it scroll for over 24 hours?and it never stopped. Gigabyte tech support told me to remove all ram except 1 cartridge. I?ve tried that and did a clean install (deleted the partition and loaded the correct chipset drivers and the beginning of the install) yet the scroll bar still hangs.

Blue Screen Of Death Except Now It's White, Windows Could Not Restart

Apr 27, 2009

I bought an Asus G50-VT with Vista pre-installed. There was some sort of glitch while I was overnighting the download of a long file. Anyway I wound up at what I can only say was the blue screen of death except now it's white. It told me that Windows could not restart and I should insert my installation disk to repair a busted file which it also named. Looked and I had no installation disk, indeed I did not have any Windows disks at all included with the machine. I called Asus Tech Support. They told me that Microsoft no longer lets OEMs ship the windows disks. Although there were two disks called "recovery disks" the TS person said my only option was to hold down f9 to rebootr and WIPE THE DISK AND REINSTALL WINDOWS! So I lost all my data and have spent all morning recovering.

Was Asus right? You do not get install disks anymore even though a system message tells you to insert it? I only have a few days in which I could return this computer. Do other manufacturers like Sony or Hewlett Packard supply Windows Vista installtion disks with their machines? Or is Asus right? If it is just Asus that does not do this I feel I need to return this right away.

Blue Screen After New Mobo Installation

Jan 8, 2010

I installed this new motherboard with all my pre-existing other components and it boots fine and it can run but i keep getting a blue screen kind of often. I've heard this board can blue screen if the voltages to ram exceed 2.0 V but mine are set at 1.9 V so that should be fine. I completely formatted my drive and did a clean install of Windows Vista 32bit on a single partition. The error i'm getting is: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. ***STOP 0x00000024 (0x001904AB, 0x93c23B90, 0x93c2388C, 0x8994D9c4) ***Ntfs.sys - Address 8994D9C4 base at 898A7000, Datestamp 4549aceb I have seen this one a few times now. I'm confused as to what i should try next. I could get some hard disk drive scanners to look for problems and run a chkdsk or format and reinstall and reset my CMOS, again, but I feel like something else is wrong.

However, I do believe it has something to do with the HDD since its been dealing with information slower and tends to crash when i'm dealing with partitions, restarting after installing updates or programs or otherwise failing to do so or freezing (not responding) during install. I've tried safe mode but it does it there too. My HDD makes the same noise as it always did and the HDD light blinks normally. I really hope i can fix this problem without having to go out and buy a new HDD but this problem just started after I installed my new mobo so I would like to seek some outside advice for my problem.

Blue Screen At The Installation On Vista 64 Bits

Mar 2, 2009

When I boot my computer with Vista 64 , I always get a blue screen with the
following error message :

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage
to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your
computer. If the screen appears again, follow these steps :

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driveris identified in
the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for
drivers updates. Try changing video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updated. Disable BIOS memory
options such as catching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to
remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select
Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Thecnical informations:
*** STOP: 0x0000007E (0xFFFFFFFFC0000005, 0xFFFFFA600117F603,
0xFFFFFA6002D84ED8, 0xFFFFFA6002D848B0)
*** fltmgr.sys - Adress FFFFFA600117F603 base at FFFFFA600115C000.
DateStamp 47919082

Same thing with Windows 7. But, with Vista 32 bits DVD, no problem. I
suspect my DVD burner to be the problem, since it make the hell of a noise
at the startup with Vista 64 an Windows 7 DVD's.
Thank you.

Installation: Copying Files, Screen Black

It goes through the initial process just fine, copying the files, expanding and whatnot. However, after it has to restart it will go to the part where the screen is black with the words "Please wait while Windows sets up your computer...", finally make it past that and then get back to the Installing Windows Vista Ultimate x64 page. It will then stay on Copying Vista Ultimate x64 files for a bit and then blue-screen me. Under Technical Information is tells me 0x00000124.

Installation Computed 25% Crashed Blue Screen

Sep 5, 2008

I clicked on a link to a program and as usual vista wanted me to approve it so I did, my antivirus program went off with a high threat and I thought it stopped anything from happening however after I removed the bad stuff with the AV program I noticed my computer would crash to blue screen every few minutes or so.So I quickly became frustrated I tried repeatedly to used the vista cd to restore it but it would crash in the middle of the process. Next I checked the Dell support link on my desk top and it scanned the computer for any hardware or compatability issues and said I needed to install bios update. So I downloaded it ,all was ok at this point , when I began installation it completed about 25% then crashed to blue screen again . Now I am banging my head on desk... well I try to restart computer and I now have nothing at all ,no monitor stays blank,no keyboard, no mouse CD drive runs and flashes and the little #4 light on front of tower stays lit now but no HDD activity .

So I remove my HDD and install it in my sons E521 , we have same computers, and it went back to crashing to bluescreen. So now I experiment with boot sequience and boot from cd first then I just had windows vista install cd in drive and restarted computer, and that seemed to take care of that problem , however when I put my HDD back in "my" computer stall nothing ? ? ? Now does anyone out there have any ideas ? I am thinking of trying to burn an install for bios on a cd and trying that to see if it will boot up but I am kinda scared of bios anything now.

Blue Screen "flash" And Restart From The Beginning Again

Mar 2, 2010

I was surfing the net with my girlfriend the other night... playing bingo to be precise, (we are soo rock n roll!) and my computer just turned off.. not instantly like a powercut, but alot quicker than normal shutdown. I turned it back on and was given the options to start in safe mode, safemode with command prompt etc. Well, every option I chose lead to windows starting to load but then a very quick blue screen "flash" ....then it would restart from the beginning again.

I then dug out my vista cd, and told my bios to boot from cd, I would then get a message saying windows is loading files and as soon as the bar flled up the blue screen came back, but this time it stays on the screen. So just to recap, i can't start windows in safe mode, command prompt, or normally, and i can't use my recovery cd. The blue screen i get is: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
