I have just recently done a full wipe of my hard-drive with Windows Vista x32 'Ultimate' on it and came across this issue in reguards of my 'RAM (Memory)' being lower than what it shows when I boot my computer up. I have 8gb RAM in which hasn't been tampered with, and ran fine before the reinstall of my OS took place and now, both System Information and Diaxlog show my RAM as *2302mb* which I am totally confused about :/ ere is my log from Diaxlog:......

Vista Users and Ex-Users! At Last The Problem is 99.9% Solved. Here is how you can make the Cut-Copy-Delete Dialog a.k.a the Progress Dialog show more information by default and get rid of all the headache about that stupid "More Information" button, as it is no longer there to bother....Log in with an Administrator account, this is important. If your current account is in the Administrators group then ignore this step. Open the properties window for the shell32.dll file (location- C:WINDOWSSystem32), click on Secutiry tab and then <Edit> button and add your user name there in the list with Full Control. If it's already there then click <Edit> and set Full Control for it.Open the shell32.dll file in Resource Hacker. In the left pane go to UIFILE -> 42 -> 1033. Select all the text you see in the right pane and press <Delete>. Download the text file in the attachment and copy all the text from it to that pane. Click on <Compile> and File->Save. If it fails to save then take Ownership over the shell32.dll file and repeat step 3 and step 4. Google "taking ownership of files in vista" if you don't know how to do it. Exit Resource Hacker and restart machine. The Progress Dialog Will Look Like This:
Notice that there is no "More Information" button. Plus the Cancel button is a bit slimmer and the Progress bar has moved a little downwards. This was done to keep the window in "shape" . minor notes:- In the default window the progress dialog shows simple location info and remaining time. Clicking the "More Information" button makes both go away and displays them in a row and column based way, along with remaining items info and data transfer speed; even the location info is devided into two rows. This is streamlined, informative and looks cool. It would be better if the detailed info window opened by default. I aimed for the same but unfortunately the scripting language is unknown to me and with my limited knowledge of html programing the best thing I could do was to make the default window show only remaining time, items and speed in columns and rows. My friend has a Hewlett Packard desktop computer that is approximately 3 years old. She is running Windows XP. All she has is the repair installation disk. She let one of her teenage grandsons get on her computer this past weekend and now she has 2 viruses that her security program says can't be removed. She originally had 3 viruses but the one that was located in the registry seems to be gone. The other two are both located in CSIDL_SYSTEMuac*.dll. She chose to quarantine the files, but every time she scans it picks them up again. She is using SecureIt which is provided through our ISP. She can boot her computer but she can not get online. We live in a rural community and the nearest computer repair shop is 100 miles away. Based on everything she's described to me I think her best bet is a reinstall of the OS. I'm asking someone to help me help her. Would a repair installation get rid of these viruses?

I had to reinstall Windows Vista Ultimate which prior to the reinstall had SP 1 installed. After this reinstall SP1 does not show in computer properties. Is SP1 still available somewhere on the computer for upgrading or will I have to use Windows Update to apply it?

This was posted on Vista.general.discussion for a couple of days ago. I have an old system disk with XP which I moved to the E-drive when I installed Vista on a new disk. Everything of the OS on the old XP disk is deleted with the exception of this System Volume Information. I?ve taken the ownership and is now allowed to look into the folder. But no way of deleating it. No usable answer was given to the question other than moving my files to the C disk while formatting E. that might be the end solution. But does anybody know of a trick with or without editing the registry.

I want to transfer my System Information from my Hardware Diagnostics page to this Forum under MY Profile. There is no Copy and Paste button to do this. ( only save and print and the print button does not work either. !) I saved it to MY Documents . Will C and P work from the Documents program?

I have a 198 GB HDD that has only ~3GB of space left. I cannot delete
any more data, i already did disk cleanup and deleted any non-critical
files. I did a disk analazyz and found that the system volume
information folder is taking up an enormous 89 GB of space that's almost
as large as the files I put on there (107GB). This is my server machine
(wndows server 2008) so there is not any system restore to reduce. Is
there anyway to safely reduce the space that this takes up.
A quick peak into the file tree shows that just one file takes up over
67 GB of space.
I'm also using Bitlocker on this and all drives.

I'm running Vista Home Premium 32bit and I recently tried to Download Age of Mythology. I did, but when I downloaded the expansion it asked me to restart, and when it restarted my computer would have a black backround and I couldn't see any thing else. Now, I could see the Log in screen and the window for Task Manager. So I used System Restore when it rebooted, and now I have my computer up, but whenever I try to reinstall Age of Mythology or get into my Firewalls (thought that was the problem) or even try to restore my system again, that particular program stops responding, I exit, then everything but the backround disappears and it comes back just like it restarted. Also, Windows Live Onecare stops working randomly. I restart my computer, it works, then after around 10 or so minutes it stops working again. Sorry for the run-on but I'd really just like this problem to be fixed.

The way I see it, the more info I give the more likely a good fix. I recently bought a laptop, and guessed I'd sort out a network with the existing comp (how hard can it be?) I have internet access on main PC (Cat V wired), and laptop (wireless), but when I open network and sharing centre to try to access "the other" comp, the network won't show the other comp. From my laptop I have "laptop"(This Computer) - "Office" - "Internet". When I click on "Office" to show the network I get a list with "laptop", Siemens SE572 Wireless Router & Orb: Office. The first 2 listings are correct, but Orb: Office isn't, and it also shows as a Windows Media Player, I've tried everything I can think of but can't get rid of the "Orb: Office", which seems to be stopping my PC and laptop talking to each other. If I haven't bored you to death by now, as I'm gonna quickly get sick of having to drop everything onto a memory stick, and transferring to main pc to print etc.

I read another thread and it mentions that I should use the system recovery. I put in my Vista DVD, and chose it but it doesn't show any OS (which is not surprising). I don't know where the drivers are though, should I try repair without any, find them (with your help if you know where they are) or install Vista again (will all my files still be there?)

I have Vista 32 bit,intel core2 duo t7250 processor,3gb ram,nvidia 8600m dell xps 1530 laptop. My friend also has ame lappy. His system works perfectly fine, but my system is too slow.There is lag in simple operations also like there in a lag of 1-3 seconds in opening folders,it always takes to load/show all data in the folders. This problem is still persists even after i have disabled all unneccesary stuffs.

I have a brand new HP Pavilion desktop and the first two days it gave me blue screens of death. Subsequently I had an expert look at the .dmp files and Windows/System logs that show the unrecoverable events and he said that it clearly shows a -hardware -problem and that I should tell HP and get a new computer. (I have had it just 4 days longer than Best Buy's return policy was in effect because I did not figure out how serious the problem was until 2 days ago. I had been thinking it was just a conflict with my monitor or something but this guy says the .dmp files show that it is a memory or processor problem and cannot be fixed.)
I spent 3 and 1/2 hours online in a chat session with an IDIOT supervisor in India and he did not fully understand the problem and kept preaching "System Restore". I kept saying that -System Restore will not fix a Hardware problem- so there was no point to it. He finally came up with this: "sir, the processor sends some IRQ requests etc to other hardware devices, and the log suggests me that theres a conflick in such IRQ requests." Even so, how is System Restore going to FIX a hardware problem that already exists???..........

My home PC, running Vista and wired to the network, drops momentarily from my home network and looses the connection to the network printer. Usually happens when I click a link to a new page. An error comes up saying something like "page unavailable". I hit "refresh" and the page loads. I can sit at the PC and watch the network Icon in the system tray show up with a "red X" and then the red x disappears. The interesting thing is that my two laptops run wirelessly and wired to the network with out an issue. I am guessing it has to be something with the settings off myPC ethernet card? I tried updating drivers, but no new driver was available.

She bought her computer from Dell and about a year ago I had bought a computer from dell that came with Windows XP Pro. I would really like to have Vista on this computer and I was wondering if it was possible to use the "Operating System Reinstall Disk" to install Windows Vista Ultimate onto my computer. Neither of us bought cheap systems and with the amount of money we both paid it almost seems like it shouldn't matter that I would be able to do this.
But obviously thats probably not the case. But anyway, I was wondering if their was a limit to how many times I could use this disk and CD key. I was told it was two times, but I'm not sure and I don't want to try to install it and then not be able to use my computer because I'd have to buy another CD key or product license whatever. If anyone could answer my question: Will I be able to install this with no problems and not having to buy another Vista Ultimate and at the same time still have the CD work if one of us should need to reinstall Vista in case something goes wrong?

I have this laptop. When the laptop is at Idle the CPU ranges from 60% to 100% is this normal for this type of laptop? Is there any way that I can resduce the CPU usage that Vista is using I have closed down unessecery programs that I dont need.

I use Vista Windows Mail. My cousin just got a new computer with Vista and uses Windows Mail. I have no problem receiving pictures from others and no problem with my emails that I send. When I receive emails from her it shows there is an attachment, but the picture comes thru as the box with a red X. There is no yellow line above it to click on. Right clicking the red X doesn't work. As long as her emails show there is an attachment, why aren't her pictures coming through?

If I perform an "in-place" upgrade (not a clean install), does the Vista install create a new registry? If so - does it carry-over all the "junk" from the XP registry? Does it just edit the existing registry to to update to Vista, or does it create an entire new registry carying over only the settings from the old?

I can't figure out how to make a certain type of frosting in the advanced level. It is on the top layer, light brown frosting. It looks like it needs to be heated with the flame, but that makes the frosting too dark. Powdered sugar also does not help. This is kind of a silly question, but my son likes to play this game and it's driving me crazy that I can't figure out this one cake.

Is my first post and i have a problem with avi file icon. I am from Cyprus and my english its not very good. Some of my avi files show a picture and some others show a black icon. I did not have this problem before. Before all my avi files show a picture. I have K-Lite Mega Codec Pack (new version). I try Vista Codec but i can solve it. is there a complete correct way to install vista /windows 7 64bit and keep all of 32bit installed programs and files in there orginal place? Its taken more than a year to get all of the settings and programs to this condition and i now need to upgrade to 64bit so that i can use all of that extra RAM.! any ideas on the way ahead would be most

I am going to replace my laptop HDD, and was thinking to also upgrade to win 7 on the new disc. How to migrate all of my files and programs to the new disc under windows 7? I don't have another computer to use for transferring, just one laptop and one disc at a time. should I create a disc image in vista that could be used on the new drive?

A friend of mine has been locked out of his Dell laptop and cannot find the password for the single account that it has. The laptop has Vista Ultimate installed on it and I am unable to activate the hidden administrator's account to get into Vista. Other investigations using other software shows only 2 accounts, Administrator and Guest but not the actual user single account that shows up onto the login screen. ( I have managed to blank out the Administrator and Guest passwords ) I have a standard Vista Recovery Disk , but I am unable to either repair or re-install Vista from the Dell hidden partition , and the only alternative is to install a unused retail version of Vista Home Premium that my friend has been given awhile ago. I have 2 questions
1) Is the Vista Ultimate user account passwords located in a different place as compared to other versions of Vista?
2) if I install this retail version of Home Premium on the Dell laptop, will I have problems with the propriety hardware that is on the Dell laptop and would I need to find all the Dell drivers for the laptop?
