But it created a file on my desktop which is corrupted and the original file is corrupted (neither will open). I cannot delete this file from my desktop or other location now and it has seemed to slow down my PC. When I try to delete, I get a popup box that says "Recycling 1 item... from Desktop, Discovered 0 items (0 bytes)" and it just stays in an neverending do loop. After looking on internet, I have seen that Vista has issues deleting or even moving files.

I use Vista Windows Mail. My cousin just got a new computer with Vista and uses Windows Mail. I have no problem receiving pictures from others and no problem with my emails that I send. When I receive emails from her it shows there is an attachment, but the picture comes thru as the box with a red X. There is no yellow line above it to click on. Right clicking the red X doesn't work. As long as her emails show there is an attachment, why aren't her pictures coming through?

It looks like it needs to be heated with the flame, but that makes the frosting too dark. Powdered sugar also does not help. This is kind of a silly question, but my son likes to play this game and it's driving me crazy that I can't figure out this one cake.

View 5 Replies View RelatedA Vista SP1 Home Premium problem - 9 live icons covering 9 dead icons: Several days ago I had a desktop with 9 live, working icons at the bottom of the desktop. ie: recycle bin, computer, network, control panel, etc. The 9th icon was a folder called 'powershell'.
Several days ago I deleted the 'powershell' folder, and, underneath that folder, was surprised to find a dead copy of the 'powershell' folder. The deleted 'powershell' folder was in the recycle bin, and an undeleted dead copy on the desktop. This dead copy cannot be accessed with selection, left-click, or right-click operations - so the 'Properties' info cannot be displayed.........
I've been using Windows Vista Premium for over a year now. So far I've no problems with it yet. However, just recently, I noticed that the icons for the computer and recycle bin were gone. Futhermore, the icon for some of the folders on my computer were either blank or a icon of the computer. Some files (ranging from the .dll to .exe) were changed to the computer icon as well. The icons for the floppy drive and my usb also disappeared and are displayed by the icon that represents file that windows does not recognise. How I can restore these icons? I have tried a system restore back a week when they were all still good but that did not make a difference.

View 8 Replies View RelatedSo I just traded out my year old Gateway laptop (which stopped working) for a new Dell Inspiron. I've never been particularly impressed with Dell but the Tech Guy at Best Buy assured me the quality of their laptops had improved. Anyway, it came with Windows Vista Home Premium. Since it was a Dell it came loaded with a stardock with mac-like icons instead of desktop icons. I like it so I customized it with the icons for the programs I use most, stared typing up notes for medical school with MS Word, and started downloading music files.
So the other day I notice strangely that the dock had reverted back to the original icons that were present when I first got the computer. Then I noticed all of the files downloaded/saved to the harddrive had disappeared. So I start anew adding files and replacing most of the old ones. Then suddenly yesterday the dock changes again back to how it was...customized and the files that I originally had reappeared but now the files I saved when it changed the first time are gone. So what is going on? Is this some kind of glitch in the OS? Is there something wrong with the actual computer? how get my files back?
A friend of mine has been locked out of his Dell laptop and cannot find the password for the single account that it has. The laptop has Vista Ultimate installed on it and I am unable to activate the hidden administrator's account to get into Vista. Other investigations using other software shows only 2 accounts, Administrator and Guest but not the actual user single account that shows up onto the login screen. ( I have managed to blank out the Administrator and Guest passwords ) I have a standard Vista Recovery Disk , but I am unable to either repair or re-install Vista from the Dell hidden partition , and the only alternative is to install a unused retail version of Vista Home Premium that my friend has been given awhile ago. I have 2 questions
1) Is the Vista Ultimate user account passwords located in a different place as compared to other versions of Vista?
2) if I install this retail version of Home Premium on the Dell laptop, will I have problems with the propriety hardware that is on the Dell laptop and would I need to find all the Dell drivers for the laptop?
is there a Windows & newsgroup on here some place I can add?
View 9 Replies View RelatedAm I correct in assuming that, for Windows ME to run in a Virtual PC 2007 window, the Windows ME virtual disk must be located inside a disk partition that is FAT32? On a test run, I tried to install WinME on a virtual disk in a folder that was in my normal Vista partition (NTFS), and it didn't get far. I tried placing the WinME virtual disk inside an FAT32 partition, and although I didn't finish the installation process, I got that far, with the WinME instalation screen having popped up and ready for installation. One other thing: Is it possible to place the WinME virtual disk inside a logical FAT32 partition? Or must it be a primary partition?

I do see the clock & date, normally under that i saw for example the icon for external drives, processes, my virus scanner, etc. but they are gone now.
First my taskmanager was disabled, but i got it to work with the tutorial here on the forum. But still no icons.
Is there anyone that could help me getting back my icons?
This is my first time posting here. I searched the forum for an answer and became confused as to what answer might apply to my question. So, I appologize in advance if this question is redundant and/or placed in the incorrect section of the forum. I'm not sure if my problem is a file association problem, related to compressed folders, or a problem with Vista, or something else.
This is what's going on....
All of my zip files suddenly have Internet Explorer icons, but (right-click) "properties" still shows that the files are .zip files.
There is no 'Extract' option available when I right click on one of these files.
If I left click on one of these zip files, IE windows start opening and closing non-stop until I hit the on/off button and turn my computer off.
I don't know how IE got associated as the program to open my .zip files. At least I am assuming that is what has happened given that all my zip files have IE icons now.
The only thing that I can think of that may have caused this is when my husband tried to open a regular 'folder' (not a zip file) using the 'open with' option and he then selected MS Works to open the folder (he's not so computer savvy). After that little mistake this all started with my zip files. Don't know if it's related to the problem or not.
I sure would appreciate your help to get this fixed. Below are my computer details. Let me know if you need more details.
Laptop = HP Pavilian dv7-2177cl
Vista Home Premium x64bit

I have tried rebuilding the Icon cache, but this didnt quite work for me.
Is it because im using 32 bit?
my icons are like disappearing and i have no idea what to do.
I have no idea what I did but I have a folder on my desktop whose contents now appear to the left of the folder in a kind of veil all the way down the left side of the monitor. My icons that were on the far left are now to the right of those veiled folders located in the folder. I don't know how else to explain it. I absolutely hate Vista. I have never wasted so much time in my life. I see nothing better about it then XP but I spend hours trying find out what I've done without intention. I wish I could have gotten XP and foregone all the silly bells and whistles without paying an additional cost.
