Not Displaying Option, Network Adapter Not Function Properly
Apr 4, 2009
My board is an Asus P5QC...the most unstable board I have ever owned... Anyway, I got this board since November and it was not running it's best but the I had the basics running. In the past 3 months, I have re-installed Vista 9 times I was blaming Vista, but I notice that my BIOS for some weird reason is not displaying some option that I had before. Now my network adapter will not function properly. I tried my old driver and the latest drivers, I installed it the way it is suppose to be installed and well...no success.
I tested all my cat 5 and they are all in good condition. My router is functionning well, seeing that my other computers are working.

at some sites, the pictures don't download, but instead I get little square placeholder frames with a red x on them. I get this at Kohls.com and also Creativelabs.com. But other websites load fine. It only happens rarely. Especially since I'd like to see what I want to buy from Kohls I am using Vista with IE 8.0.

* Use Karmic's kernel, not Jaunty's. * Check that slmodemd is not running if you're seeing a dummy/null sink in the volume control applet. * Install linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic (then reboot) if you have a very new computer. * Use a temporary alternate channel mapping for PulseAudio if you have an ice17xx-based sound card. * Configure PulseAudio to ignore your sound driver's misreported dB information if you experience "overdriven" sound. * Attach a verbose PulseAudio runtime log to your PulseAudio bug report. * Attach an ALSA codec dump to your linux bug report if jack sense (e.g., connecting headphones mutes internal laptop speakers) does not seem to function properly.

I have recently started to transition to Vista (dual booting with XPPro). One problem that I'm having is that my ergo mouse (EvoluentVertical Mouse) uses a driver that runs as an application, not aservice (I think). It has a tray icon, but that can be hidden via the options. The problem is that every time it's software runs at startup (the application launches via the Startup start menu group) the UAC kicks off and ask for consent for it to run. Normally you only see this when you install something or if you try to access a high level admin type tool, as I understand it.Is there some way to permanently consent to this application running at startup? If the application isn't running the mouse doesn't function properly. I tried using the compatibility option to have it run with administrator privileges, but that didn't make any difference.

The Microsoft 6to4 adapter showed in the device manager that it was not working properly. If you look at yours it may show the same. I think I disabled it trying to update it. This was before I found this short sweet article from Microsoft. Does anyone know if I will experience problems in the future when this new technology gets more prevalent? If so, how do I get it back. I followed the instructions that a vista pro gave me to fix this problem and it shows in the reliability monitor that it was installed...but it is not showing int he device manager. Would it be installed but not show on the device manager?

One usb ethernet adapter for internet connection through an old router, one for a Linksys Wireless G router hard wired to remote security cameras sums up the problem where one cancels the other out. This is a problem for XP, Vista, and even 7 beta while the primary system still runs XP. The dsl connection is through an old dsl setup using a usb adapter while the Linksys pci adapter card or usb adapter once installed becomes the default network adapter.
The wireless router itself is plugged with the RJ-45 ethernet adapter directly into the main controller/dvr box for live wireless feed to the main XP system or this one as a second means along with direct plug in to a tv set in the room where the main box is located. In XP, Vista, and even the later 7 beta the same problem of running two adapters without conflict is the main question needing a working solution. This thread is intended to tax the most network familar people here.
The landlord runs the main XP system with eventual plans to upgrade to Vista while this system serves as a testing machine a good deal of the time explaining multiple OSs as a rule. The router and adapters are in working order not seeing any defects while canceling the original dsl adapter out when installed. That takes out the online connection in the process.

I am still trying to get some help for this. In Device Manager, under Network Adapters I get a list of 20 approx items all with yellow triangle warnings (apart from 2). The first ones are Microsoft 6to4 Adapters. Info says drivers are up to date, but I get an error code 31. Details: Message "This device is not working properly because windows cannot load the drivers required for this device" (Code 31). Have checked for solutions, but says there are none. I get similar warnings for the other 20 items shown. What do I do now please? (I am using an Acer laptop, with Vista Ultimate OS)

Many new network adapters on VISTA fail to support NDISReadNetworkAddress function. This is the function that allows software configurable MAC Address. Although the network adapters received "Certified for Windows VISTA" logo, they fail to support this function. Based on my understanding from Microsoft website, network adapters are required to support NDIS 6.0 for Windows VISTA, and NDIS 5.1 for Windows XP, and both NDIS versions require support for NDISReadNetworkAddress function.....

Everytime I reboot the laptop I loose the ability to connect to the internet although the laptop confirms a connection to the wireless network router.I click "Diagnose this connection" and choose "Automatically get new IP Settings for the network adapter" I have internet connectivity restored.
The laptop is an HP dv6755ca, less then one week old, and has been checked to be sure all drivers and updates have been installed. I have run anti-virus and checked for malware/spyware. The network setup is 1. PC connected via ethernet, 1. wireless laptop and 1. smc8014w-g wireless gateway.
Although the setup was walked through with me by the technician (over the phone) I'm not yet ruling out a faulty set-up in the 192.168.0.1 site [except that I have had no issues with the wired connection].

I have several notebooks with Windows Vista Business 32 installed. After wakeup from sleeping mode, is necessary to reset network adapter to get to the internet. Otherwise only local network is reachable. I disabled power off of network adapter during sleep mode, Disabled IP6. I tried to install KB933872 but installation end because KB is not for my operating system.

My computer will load up normally the way until it reaches the screen with the green bar and black screen. The green bar will cycle through about two to three times, but then it stops moving. It moves forward just a little bit every 5 minutes though, so if I leave it like that for about 40 minutes then Vista will be able to boot to my desktop. And when I try to restart my computer, it just stays at the 'Shutting Down" screen forever. The longest I've let the shutting down screen just stay there was 20 minutes. I had to cut the power. Anything that has to do with networking seems to make my computer freeze up. I can start up in Safe Mode but not Safe Mode with Networking. And when I waited the 40 minutes start my comp up, the Vista said the the "Network cable is unplugged", but it wasn't.

So I turned my laptop on today and for some reason it would not connect to the internet. I thought it might be the router so I rebooted that and still no luck. When troubleshooting it says; "This computer does not have a wireless network adapter installed and configured" So immediately I think the driver or my adapter has been uninstalled. If your wondering what my adapter was its; Nvidia nForce Networking Controller (x64 Windows Ultimate) I went on there website and found the driver, installed it and still nothing. I also found another program that was installed; Broadcom 802.11 Uninstaller I really need this fixed ,

When I check the status of my network adapter, it says that DHCP is not enabled. How do I enable it in Windows Vista Ultimate? I'm trying to enable it for ICS to/with a windows XP Pro computer. The other computer (XP) is not auto configuring itself with the right type of network settings. (IP, Subnet mask, & Gateway) For instance: it will configure itself to use 169.254.37.72, 255.255.0.0 instead of 192.168.0.(2-255), 255.255.255.0, and Default Gateway of 192.168.0.1.

1. My network has ALWAYS failed upon RESUME FROM SLEEP using a WIRELESS connection via a NETGEAR WN121T wireless-N USB 2.0 adapter, but NOT when using a wired Ethernet connection.
2. It also works perfectly from BOOT via the WN121T wireless connection with my NETGEAR DG834N draft 802.11n (and another 802.11g) wireless modem/router on Windows Vista Ultimate, both with and without the SP1 Release Candidate.
3. But upon resumption from SLEEP, the wireless n/w connection has ALWAYS failed: attempting to re-connect to the network fails, and Device Manager reports for the WN121T that ???Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (code 43)???.
4. The only remedy is to REBOOT.
5. The consequences of this are twofold:.........

Everything is working fine (so far) except that it does not recognize integrated Ethernet adapter at all. On advise of support guys did driver reinstall several time including while in Safe Mode. Even restored factory settings i.e. reinstalled OS. If I run "pnputil -e" then the adapter package is listed but the adapter just does not show up in Device Manager.
Already verified that it is enabled in BIOS. Netgear USB adapter worked just fine after installing vista driver for it. Thinking of putting in a PCI card but that will occupy one slot. Only 3 PCI slots are available - standard, Express 1 and Express 16.

I started to have problems with Local Area Connection in Vista, during logon there was two networks identified, one that I had set up and one unrecognized. This was a problem, because it disrupted the DHCP discovery. I have read here that many have the same problem, but so far haven't been able to pinpoint the cause. My solution was to try to disable the network connection and enable it. This seemed to work sometimes, but once I rebooted the machine, the whole network adapter had disappeared from device manager. I tried re-installing the driver but Vista doesn't seem to recognize it. How do I get Vista to install it back?

I have a issue with my Linksys wireless USB adapter. I am trying to use it with Vista Home Premium. After installing software... I plug the adapter in (like directions say) and windows update goes to work. It updates the driver, installs correctly, I then connect to my home network and all is good. My prob is for some reason I lose internet and the USB adapter itself. One time I switched users and lost all. I have tried uninstalling adapter and tried reinstalling by pointing to my D drive (install CD) in hopes of using the driver that's on the installation CD. as soon as it saw everything.. windows update once again gave me the same buggy driver. I have tried to install with UAC disabled... no luck... the Linksys website/support for drivers has the same updated driver. I tried to use an older one but Windows keeps forcing this updated one down my
throat.

I have with Vista and an ad-hoc peer-to-peer wired network. When I run the wizard to connect to a network, it does not show the add ad-hoc network option, only four others for wireles, internet and vpn connection. Also, although I have networked two PC's both running Vista, I cannot ping the second machine from the first and vice versa despite having added routes to both machines. nslookup recognises the ip address of each machine, as does tracert(I should point out that both machines obtain their iP addresses from a router which also allows access to the internet. Both machines can see the internet).

I tried post on maintenance etc but got no advice Any ideas as to why I suddenly have this need to keep resetting the network adapter via network sharing? (I am sure its associated here) I have just changed ISP and their supplied router is both wireless and Ethernet. My previous was Ethernet only. I only use Ethernet at the moment but network
sharing keeps identifying two networks. I cant merge or delete as that option is greyed out.

This is a question about both xp and vista to a lesser extent. I can't find the proper english group for xp netowrking in the newsgroup list so I am posting here. I have 6 workstaions. a mix of xp and vista. I am hoping that I can configure the vista machines in the same way I am doing xp. This is a workgroup environment not a AD. Let us say the 6 workstations are
1) alice (xp)
2) john (xp).....
Lets look at alice. What I have done is to create 5 user accounts (limited) on alice called john, mary, jack, roger and morgan. I have set their password all to network. ****QUESTION****: In order to share a folder(s) to these other 5 workstaions do I have to manually set up each user on the alice machine or is there a way to see these users of the other machines listed in the share permissons and just select them without having to set up physical accounts for them on the alice machine....

In divice manager under dispaly adapters there is standard VGA Graphics Adapter and further down the page there is "Other Divices" with Video controller. When it installs these some times the standard VGA Graphics Adapter fail but the video controller succeed but with error. saying. "Incompatable display Adapter has been disabled. At least one display adapter on the system has been disabled because its not compatible with the driver for the VGA adapter". lso i carnt change the resolution above 1024X768. Also my Graphic card is a Sapphier brand but in the windows update its looking for ATI Technologies Inc. - Display - ASUS EAH3870X2 Series

I?m trying to install a network printer on a Vista machine. Vista is able to locate the printer on the network but when I select it for installation, for some time, Vista tries to connect and then pops up this message: "Failed Connecting to Printer - Access Denied" And then another window pops up with this message: "Spooler Subsystem Application stopped woring and has been closed." In fact the spooler service always stops, so I have to restart it on the services windows, within Administrative Tools of the Control Panel. The machine is new and has been installed yesterday. Everything else works fine. The printer I am trying to install is on a Windows XP Professional machine within the same network (naturally).

I just acquired what seems to be a really old PCIe ATI card that I can't seem to install correctly. I went to the ATI support site and the drivers for the card just don't seem to work. Is there a specific order to follow when installing a GPU -- sorry, its been a while. It doesn't go into a PCI slot but its the bigger one, looks like a big ole' AGP card but it has a sticker right on the card that says PCIe. I can only find the drivers for a Radeon HD2600XT and I'm not sure if those are the correct drivers or not. When I first installed it everything went well and it installed correctly but the XP hardware wizard wasn't satisfied. So it doesn't fully install -- note, I do not have the original discs -- but just need the most up to date drivers.

I have an issue with Windows Photo Gallery and viewing black & white images. The problem I am having is the white parts of the image seems to have an almost light blueish tint, and the black parts look like they were done using dark blue ink.
The thumbnail for the image, as well as opening it in paint and opening it in slideshow displays the image correctly.
So far, I attempted to fix this problem myself by changing my ICC profile in the color management settings multiple times, even rebooting my pc for some of the changes, as well as uninstalling my monitor drivers, with unsuccessful results. I do not know if this is an issue with my OS, my monitor, or my video card.

Today, I was forced to use my Vista Ultimate installation disc to reinstall Vista - since yesterday morning, my computer was not able to get out of a loop (first going to Windows Error Recovery and then, when selecting any of the options, going to the green loading bar, where it the green bar stopped moving about 2/3 of the way, and going back to Windows Error Recovery).
The installation went smoothly enough, but I am absolutely clueless how to get my computer to roughly the same conditions it was before this fiasco. Fortunately, it would appear that all of my files and folders from before this re-installation have been saved in the folder Windows.old. However, I am at a complete loss as to how to reconfigure my Internet connection, how to restore my previous screen resolution (there are now only three options for resolution under Display Settings), and essentially getting the basics back in order.

The problem I am having is when i enable my graphics card (geforce 9800 GTX) the edges of the display go out of viewing. I have tried using vista and nvidia drivers, either way once the graphic card is enabled with drivers the format changes and the edges of the display go out of screen. I am still able to click on the task bar and other windows when they are out of screen, because my mouse will also go out of screen to reach them.
If i disable my graphics card, the viewing area is fine.
