I have to install Windows Vista Business over Windows 2000 on several school computers, then roll it back to XP. Do I need to remove the 2000 first? Need advice on the easiest way to accomplish this

When I try adding the computer to the domain I get the following error: "The format for the specified network name is invalid". I am typing in the domain name correctly, and the computer name is simply the user's last name.

I can replace the hard drive no problem, but don't want to fork over the $$$ for a new Vista OS. I have XP pro, but there seems to be too many issues with downgrading. I have the COA on the bottom of the computer. Since the OS was definitely paid for with the original purchase, can I get an OS from MS for this computer?

In the hope that they are compatible, I installed Office 2000 and then installed (from the Microsoft site) updates SR-1a and SP-2. Then I downloaded SP3, but when I attempted to install it, I got the message "The expected version of the product was not found on your system." Is there some reason for this, or should I just try again? I looked for, but could not find, a newsgroup that deals with Office 2000 -- is there an alternative newsgroup that would be better for these questions?

I just want to confirm this is the case before I go buy an upgrade copy. one last question to tack on here - if I have a desktop and a laptop computer will it let me install the same copy and license key of Vista on both? I know some MS products in the past have allowed you to install on more than one computer because they realize a lot of people have more than one computer but they only work with one at a given time.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've connected my Windows home premium and the 2000 to the router and Vista can not find my 2000 from the net. I do get an ping reply from both directions. I have them in the same workroup (I guess if it is as easy to just name the groups the same?). All I want to do is atleast to share files between the computers. All firewalls are gone (sortof). The TTPL or what ever topology thingy it is, is on. As you can see, I'm not made for creating home networks so please, be gentle. Or even better, if you could do/link me to an good tutorial.

They have same workgroup name and I shared folders, etc. I can see Vista computer fine from 2000 computer but cannot see 2000 computer under network on vista computer. Can you make an ISO CD of this program, load it in your CD/DVD drive and check your memory for errors? I recently updated the BIOS on the board (DP35DP) and it does show all of the 4GB of Kingston ValueRam PC800 1.8v (2x2gb) installed. I have good reason to believe that it's from a respectable manufacturer. Just want to make sure the memory is good before I load up the OS.

I have found a font I like called Parisian. It it not currently installed in my fonts. I have WIndows Vista 68 and Microsoft Office 2007. I am told I can install this free font and others, but don't know how. I went to microsofts free font downloads and got a zip but how do I get the font files into my programs. Specifically I want to use it in Microsoft Publisher 2007. That is the program I do most of my flyers in and want to use that font.

I originally had Windows Vista Home but Business was all he had so that is what I tried using, both 32-bit. I deleted all files thinking I would just be able to install it and get it over with. So now I do not have any operating system installed. Everything works fine up to the point where it restarts and I get to
the Completing Installation (Last step) and it will run for a while on that point and the screen will flicker twice and after a moment the computer will lockup and then it will not go any further. The computer I am using is an Acer Aspire 5515.

problem I have is that I do not have vista installation dvd. I am currently studying abroad in Rome and will take more time than I have to receive the dvd in the mail. None of my friends here have one either, but they all have the same make and model computer that I do. Is it possible for one of them create a installation dvd that I could use? Or could they make a recovery disc that could as least get me to the system recovery options screen?
I would like to get vista to use the login style used in Win 2000 ... ctrl+alt+del gives a login box in which to enter the user name and password.
Win XP Pro had this option also, but, it's default was like vista (pictures showing all users).
I have been able to get the ctrl+alt+del part but instead of the login box I still get pictures.
Does anyone know if Office 2000 will work on a Vista machine?

Labtop was operating under Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit.It happened right after uninstalling Java; because the dang updates kept popping up and it was getting annoying. I have a perfectly functioning Win XP SP3 laptop. I've heard both sides of
the upgrade issue.
1. Where can I buy Windows Vista Business? I don't want to get it from some

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just applied SP1 to Vista Business 32 bit. It's now requiring me to Activate Windows and says that the activation key that it grabbed from my machine was already in use. DUH!!!!!! No kidding....I only have 1 Vista Business computer and only one key. What gives? Found this on the KB articles: Cause 1: Changes to hardware or to hardware device drivers are detected. Part of the Windows Genuine process requires that you reactivate your computer when certain hardware is changed or when certain hardware device drivers are changed. Windows Vista Service Pack 1 may update some installed device drivers. Therefore, you may be prompted to activate Windows Vista again. I can understand that....but it still will NOT allow me to activate my computer!!!!
