Index Base Score More Than 4.8
May 24, 2008at the moment my base score is 4.8 on ram every thing else is 5.9 my question is that if i add 4gb of ram more as that is what my computer can take will it up my score to more than 4.8

Mar 23, 2008I have windows Vista which had 2Gb of memory. The index was 5.2, that was the memory score. I have added another 2Gb. As its a 32bit OS only 3.5 GB is detected, but when I updated my windows experience the score went down for 5.2 to 5.

Jul 27, 2009Is there a way to increase the max WEI score to something higher than 5.9 in Vista? I don't mean the xml file hack where you can change the number for each category to anything you want, but rather an increase on the maximum limit (currently 5.9) that the WEI can display. Maybe change it to something around Win7's level? Is this possible?

May 22, 2008I just added more RAM to my machine. I went back to the index to update, and nothing was there. It showed my old score, which needed to be updated, but there weren't any other graphics on the page. Anyone seen this problem before?

Jan 1, 2009Im new to vista and have looked over this forum but cant seem to find an answer to my issue...which is: I open "Computer" then press on "Searches" (on the left) and then open "Everywhere" which returns 5,000 results...PLEASE how do i clear this list. I have rebuilt the index after removing ALL folders etc to index...now displays ZERO indexed items.
I have then turned indexing off completely on all drives (right click/properties/untick indexing option and select ALL files and subfolders)...and via admin tools/services/windows search (disabled after stopping service) I have rebooted and still thousands of results come up under: Searches/Everywhere Its driving me nuts
Uninstall PICASA Data Base
Feb 14, 2009I would like to uninstall PICASA, but save my data base, of the folders and the albums I have created. Some other systems appear to let you do this. however my problem is that the path goes Start/all programs/PICASA/uninstall. Sep 21, 2008Now lets get this straight, I am a grown man of 44, i have three children 7, 6, and 4, and I have been playing with computers since i was inputing binary on the switches of my 2650 SCMP kit microprocessor back in the 70's. I LOVE VISTA, yes i shouted it! Vista works, Vista runs nicely, Vista looks nice, Vista is the end of XP. And I still remember, like going back to an ex girlfriend, wanting to run back to Win98SE when i took my first faltering steps with the new shiny XP Pro. Now that indexing has had time to settle in, i have a steady processor resting rate of around 10-20% with DreamScene and Sidebar running and the usual 7-15% i have experienced since XP when DreamScene is paused or stopped, but with all the sweet (neccessary!) dressing of Aero and all its trimmings. Except for the MotoGP series games needing directinput and not liking XInput I have all my games running at least as well, and I do believe in some cases better than under XP. I have updated all my usual apps and have now alcohol runs better than XP, and after getting the latest WinRar I have a comfortable workspace enough to enjoy the journey into this brave new Vista world.
for the Linux naysayers, i have been compiling my own kernel since Version 1.something, and as nice as Linux has become, it still isn't Windows, and doesnt have the software base that is the forgiver of all Microsofts trespasses, so after my long journey through the wilderness, here we rest at this lovely place called Vista.

Mar 22, 2008I recently bought the Microsoft Wireless Desktop 7000 keyboard/mouse combo. It is bluetooth driven and comes with a bluetooth dongle that plugs in via USB. When I plug it in, it detects the hardware and beings a 4 step 'new device software installation'. The first 2 pass, then it comes to installing a "base system device" and fails. I do not believe it is recognizing the dongle correctly and this is where my problem sits. I can manually install the driver through device manager for "microsoft tranceiver v3.0 for bluetooth" which is what it is stickered as, but even doing this does not get it working properly.
I am running Vista x64 Ultimate, I have all the latest MS software for this media package installed, and it also links to a Vista hotfix -- KB925528. When I try to install this it says "this update does not apply to your system". It's possible I have previously installed this via windows update, but if not then I don't know why it says that.

Nov 8, 2007I have a Dell Inspiron 9100 laptop which so far had 512 MB RAM and it ran beautifully under XP. Last month I upgraded to Vista Ultimate and got a WEI of 2.0 because my memory rating was 2.0. All the other scores were 3.7 and above. Here's the strange bit. Last week I upgraded the memory to 1.25 GB by removing one 256 MB module and inserting a 1GB pqi PC3200 DDR 400 module that I bought from Newegg. It had very good customer reviews. The score for memory dropped to 1.6 after the increase in memory! Today I removed the remaining 256MB and inserted another pqi 1GB to bring the total to max of 2GB. The score than increased to a lowly 2.5. My question is how come a full 2 GB of memory not increasing the score? How are people getting higher scores with 1GB on their machines? The Inspiron 9100 is a workhorse with very good specs and I expected it to get a very good WEI running vista.

Windows Vista 64 "Performance Information and Tools" shows that "Graphics:
Desktop performance for Windows Aero" has 4,8 Subscore and "Gaming graphics:
3D business and gaming graphics performance" has 4,9 which are very low,
that the HD 2600 Pro is the bottleneck of my computer.

WinRAR Score With The TLB Fix Enabled Is A Sickening 80 Vs 454 Disabled
Jan 26, 2009WinRAR = 454 w/TLB fix diabled Avg scores for my system 1,100 Call Juarez = 30 FPS Avg score = 45. Dont know whats wrong. Could it be a dead core? How can I check?
1) My WinRAR score with the TLB fix enabled is a sickening 80!!! vs 454 disabled. So I am certain that the fix was disabled at my score of 454.
2)Regarding number of active cores:
a) When I run task manager I see only ONE window for CPU in performance.
b) Running CPU-Z V1.49 shows ONE Processor ONE Core
c) CrystalCUPID V 4.15 shows only ONE of One cores (Code name Agena?) I should see 1/FOUR
d) In Vista Sidebar using mCPU Gadget: Shows Four cores HOWEVER
only ONE ever displays activity. I tested it by really loading up applications and Never saw activity of the other three cores!!!......
Windows Experience Index ..
Apr 9, 2009This morning my computer started issuing security alerts notifying me that the firewall was off as was the malware. I turn the firewall on but under the malware section it indicates that it is reporting to the security centre in a format that is no longer supported. It also has a little Not Compatible icon to the right of the malware icon on the left. Once the firewall is turned on and the malware turns from red to yellow when we turn it on the shield in the bottom right of the screen goes yellow for a while but eventually it goes red again and I am again notified that the firewall is off and the malware is off as well.
I know my subscription is still in effect and according to the system it expires 10/03/2010.

Mar 23, 2008my vista Home Premium has yet again got the index/search not working. Start/Control panel/ Index Options, gives me a dialogue box that says the index is not running and all the other functions are greyed out. I have had this before and found that I had to reinstall Vista (a fix was expected early 08) I believe it is being caused by my external hard drive being removed and the drive no longer is available to the Index?.
I have tried the "0 in SetupCompletedSuccessfully" fix, and copying the
gathrprm.txt and schema.txt files to the configure Folder.I have a Sony VGN-FZ11z fully updated with Vista Home Premium. I really dont want to reinstall again.
64 Cannot Index Network Shares
Mar 7, 2008This is a known bug according to several Internet sources. So how can I DISABLE indexing of network shares? I have a network share which has like 200 folder/sub-folders, and everytime I access it, it works for a second or two, then it hangs windows explorer, sometimes hanging my whole PC (explorer.exe)!!!
And I know it is doing this because the root folder only has like 20 sub-folders, all of which I can clearly see listed, but when I do a Wireshark capture (tcpdump), I see all the sub-folders and files being listed, so I know it must be spidering the share and indexing everything. The worst part is, this share is on a NetApp, so there are .hourly and .daily and .weekly and .monthly snapshots of all my data.. In all, it is several dozen gigabyes of files, folders, and sub-folders, all of which Vista is "attempting" to index, but cannot/store. how to turn off indexing? Heck, I'd be happy with NO (not even local) indexing just to avoid this damned problem again and again. No known ETA on a fix from MSFT, from what I can find.. Which is a shame!
NTFS Index Corrupt?
Jan 7, 2009when I powered up my Vista I noticed that it was unusually slow and all of a sudden, it froze for no apparent reason. I rebooted [by pressing reset on case as keyboard wouldn't respond] and booted into XP and ran chkdsk on the Vista partition. Sure enough, it found two errors but in the index area. Here's the output of DOS window:

Not Index Documents Folder?
Nov 22, 2008I've been surfing the web for ages and tried many fixes I've been reading, including this one, to address my specific problem. Yours is a GREAT tutorial, by the way. But it does not work for me. My problem is that the Vista search box won't find ANY file under my Documents folder. I have selected "index this folder" under the properties of the folder but it won't work. If I go to control panel the only folder that is included is "Users", but does this mean "c:users" or not? I have no clue! if I try to manually add a folder from this control panel / indexing window I can not navigate to "c:usersmy_user_namedocuments" folder because it does not show up as you can see on this screen capture! what the hell is going on? I am already thinking of reinstalling the whole system but I'd like to know how I went into this situation or else I risk doing the same again.
