my computer is lacking in the graphic area. Hence the score of a 3.0 I went to my computers site (HP) and found out that my graphics and gaming graphics is integrated, thus the low score.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have windows Vista which had 2Gb of memory. The index was 5.2, that was the memory score. I have added another 2Gb. As its a 32bit OS only 3.5 GB is detected, but when I updated my windows experience the score went down for 5.2 to 5.

I don't mean the xml file hack where you can change the number for each category to anything you want, but rather an increase on the maximum limit (currently 5.9) that the WEI can display. Maybe change it to something around Win7's level? Is this possible?

View 7 Replies View RelatedIm new to vista and have looked over this forum but cant seem to find an answer to my issue...which is: I open "Computer" then press on "Searches" (on the left) and then open "Everywhere" which returns 5,000 results...PLEASE how do i clear this list. I have rebuilt the index after removing ALL folders etc to index...now displays ZERO indexed items.
I have then turned indexing off completely on all drives (right click/properties/untick indexing option and select ALL files and subfolders)...and via admin tools/services/windows search (disabled after stopping service) I have rebooted and still thousands of results come up under: Searches/Everywhere Its driving me nuts

Problem is that when i update my score or refresh the rating which is grey after detecting new hardware it still stays grey and does not update the score? it still has new hardware detected after running the update my score option?

I think it would be neat to have everyone post up their PC specs and the score which Vista gave you in the perfomance center. Try and follow the same format.

I just find it strange that it would be such a difference. I hit the 'update my score' twice and still the same, even after a reboot. I'm thinking that this hole score thing is a bit of a crock!

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 9100 laptop which so far had 512 MB RAM and it ran beautifully under XP. Last month I upgraded to Vista Ultimate and got a WEI of 2.0 because my memory rating was 2.0. All the other scores were 3.7 and above. Here's the strange bit. Last week I upgraded the memory to 1.25 GB by removing one 256 MB module and inserting a 1GB pqi PC3200 DDR 400 module that I bought from Newegg. It had very good customer reviews. The score for memory dropped to 1.6 after the increase in memory! Today I removed the remaining 256MB and inserted another pqi 1GB to bring the total to max of 2GB. The score than increased to a lowly 2.5. My question is how come a full 2 GB of memory not increasing the score? How are people getting higher scores with 1GB on their machines? The Inspiron 9100 is a workhorse with very good specs and I expected it to get a very good WEI running vista.

Catalyst driver 8.4 is installed.
But:
Windows Vista 64 "Performance Information and Tools" shows that "Graphics:
Desktop performance for Windows Aero" has 4,8 Subscore and "Gaming graphics:
3D business and gaming graphics performance" has 4,9 which are very low,
that the HD 2600 Pro is the bottleneck of my computer.

WinRAR = 454 w/TLB fix diabled Avg scores for my system 1,100 Call Juarez = 30 FPS Avg score = 45. Dont know whats wrong. Could it be a dead core? How can I check?
1) My WinRAR score with the TLB fix enabled is a sickening 80!!! vs 454 disabled. So I am certain that the fix was disabled at my score of 454.
2)Regarding number of active cores:
a) When I run task manager I see only ONE window for CPU in performance.
b) Running CPU-Z V1.49 shows ONE Processor ONE Core
c) CrystalCUPID V 4.15 shows only ONE of One cores (Code name Agena?) I should see 1/FOUR
d) In Vista Sidebar using mCPU Gadget: Shows Four cores HOWEVER
only ONE ever displays activity. I tested it by really loading up applications and Never saw activity of the other three cores!!!......
The notification area, down by the time, has 13 icons showing. And there isn't any "<" or ">" symbol near them at all. Is there setting that I touched on accident that disabled the notification area's ability to collapse after a certain number of icons are displayed? Or, is it normal for it to show 13 icons without collapsing....

Each time it completed an virus data base update, it would pop up and make a verbal announcement. It is quite annoying, and sometimes disruptive. I tried to hide it by : right click task bar > Properties > Notification Area > Customize > select Hide on avast! ( both ). Won't work. Still shows up for an announcement.

View 9 Replies View RelatedJust recently a new icon appeared in the notification area and I can't get rid of it or even find out what it is. If you hover over the icon, there is no pop up message saying what it is. Left and right click don't do anything at all. I've looked in the customise icons section but it is just listed as "<no title>".
The icon looks like two figures in front of a small window, with the windows shield at the front. I've tried to attach a screen shot of it. It's the second one from the left.
It appears shortly after starting up the laptop and then won't go.
I've got an ACER Aspire 5735, running Vista Home Basic.

How does one get rid of unwanted links in the Notification area?
By right clicking an unwanted item, one can hide it, but this does not remove it.
I have an Asus Motherboard that has an EPU-6 Engine (EPU = Energy Processing Unit, all it does is maximize energy usage on the mobo). It comes with a small app that puts itself in the Notification Area so that you can change between energy profiles easily. I like the app, but I don't want it shown there all the time. I already tried the "Hide Inactive Icons" option, and also tried to hide it manually by selecting "Hide" from the drop down menu in the "Custom..." options. The problem is that it hides the icon, but when I reboot, all those settings are undone. Is there a way to fix that?

I know very little about computers and so struggle to follow much of the advice on these forums! I'm trying to connect using an ethernet connection so it's not a problem with the wireless. View 4 Replies View RelatedI was cleaning up my screen and keyboard with windex, foolishly, with the computer on, when somehow in the course of working on the keyboard I managed to flip the viewing area on the screen 90 degrees so that what was the short dimension (up-down) is now the long dimension (left/right). Some combination if key press' will put it back to normal I guess. But looking hard at the icons on the keys... its not at all clear which ones.
