Index Base Score More Than 4.8
May 24, 2008at the moment my base score is 4.8 on ram every thing else is 5.9 my question is that if i add 4gb of ram more as that is what my computer can take will it up my score to more than 4.8

I attempt to turn on Windows Firewall manually but get the message: "Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall service." As per advice I saw on another thread on this forum (i believe) I opened a command prompt as an administrator and ran "SFC /scannow" several times. Each time I get the message:.........

Mar 23, 2008I have windows Vista which had 2Gb of memory. The index was 5.2, that was the memory score. I have added another 2Gb. As its a 32bit OS only 3.5 GB is detected, but when I updated my windows experience the score went down for 5.2 to 5.

Catalyst driver 8.4 is installed.
But:
Windows Vista 64 "Performance Information and Tools" shows that "Graphics:
Desktop performance for Windows Aero" has 4,8 Subscore and "Gaming graphics:
3D business and gaming graphics performance" has 4,9 which are very low,
that the HD 2600 Pro is the bottleneck of my computer.
Why does Windows Vista score the card so low?

Feb 14, 2009I would like to uninstall PICASA, but save my data base, of the folders and the albums I have created. Some other systems appear to let you do this. however my problem is that the path goes Start/all programs/PICASA/uninstall. I don't seem to be able to keep my database of holiday pictures - which I've spent so long on sorting. I was wondering if there is a way around this

Sep 21, 2008Now lets get this straight, I am a grown man of 44, i have three children 7, 6, and 4, and I have been playing with computers since i was inputing binary on the switches of my 2650 SCMP kit microprocessor back in the 70's. I LOVE VISTA, yes i shouted it! Vista works, Vista runs nicely, Vista looks nice, Vista is the end of XP. And I still remember, like going back to an ex girlfriend, wanting to run back to Win98SE when i took my first faltering steps with the new shiny XP Pro. Now that indexing has had time to settle in, i have a steady processor resting rate of around 10-20% with DreamScene and Sidebar running and the usual 7-15% i have experienced since XP when DreamScene is paused or stopped, but with all the sweet (neccessary!) dressing of Aero and all its trimmings. Except for the MotoGP series games needing directinput and not liking XInput I have all my games running at least as well, and I do believe in some cases better than under XP. I have updated all my usual apps and have now alcohol runs better than XP, and after getting the latest WinRar I have a comfortable workspace enough to enjoy the journey into this brave new Vista world.
for the Linux naysayers, i have been compiling my own kernel since Version 1.something, and as nice as Linux has become, it still isn't Windows, and doesnt have the software base that is the forgiver of all Microsofts trespasses, so after my long journey through the wilderness, here we rest at this lovely place called Vista.

Mar 22, 2008I recently bought the Microsoft Wireless Desktop 7000 keyboard/mouse combo. It is bluetooth driven and comes with a bluetooth dongle that plugs in via USB. When I plug it in, it detects the hardware and beings a 4 step 'new device software installation'. The first 2 pass, then it comes to installing a "base system device" and fails. I do not believe it is recognizing the dongle correctly and this is where my problem sits. I can manually install the driver through device manager for "microsoft tranceiver v3.0 for bluetooth" which is what it is stickered as, but even doing this does not get it working properly.
I am running Vista x64 Ultimate, I have all the latest MS software for this media package installed, and it also links to a Vista hotfix -- KB925528. When I try to install this it says "this update does not apply to your system". It's possible I have previously installed this via windows update, but if not then I don't know why it says that.

Jan 27, 2010I received notification for recommended update KB 978506. I installed it. Soon the update notification showed in my taskbar again so I clicked to install again. When it showed up the 3rd time I checked my update history and see this item shows as installed twice today - successful in both instances. I restarted thinking that might do the trick but it's still saying I have this same update to install.

Windows will be working fine and then will reboot stating that an error in the operating system has been detected and a re-start is required. I tried using the recover disk to correct the problem but it tells me that a recently added camera or external device is disrupting the system. I have not added a camera or external device. I'M FED UP WITH TECHNOLOGY - I bought this laptop as a result of a catastrophioc failure in a laptop that was 15 months old.

Increasing Experience Index Score Over 5.9
Jul 27, 2009Is there a way to increase the max WEI score to something higher than 5.9 in Vista? I don't mean the xml file hack where you can change the number for each category to anything you want, but rather an increase on the maximum limit (currently 5.9) that the WEI can display. Maybe change it to something around Win7's level? Is this possible?

Nov 8, 2007I have a Dell Inspiron 9100 laptop which so far had 512 MB RAM and it ran beautifully under XP. Last month I upgraded to Vista Ultimate and got a WEI of 2.0 because my memory rating was 2.0. All the other scores were 3.7 and above. Here's the strange bit. Last week I upgraded the memory to 1.25 GB by removing one 256 MB module and inserting a 1GB pqi PC3200 DDR 400 module that I bought from Newegg. It had very good customer reviews. The score for memory dropped to 1.6 after the increase in memory! Today I removed the remaining 256MB and inserted another pqi 1GB to bring the total to max of 2GB. The score than increased to a lowly 2.5. My question is how come a full 2 GB of memory not increasing the score? How are people getting higher scores with 1GB on their machines? The Inspiron 9100 is a workhorse with very good specs and I expected it to get a very good WEI running vista.

Jan 26, 2009WinRAR = 454 w/TLB fix diabled Avg scores for my system 1,100 Call Juarez = 30 FPS Avg score = 45. Dont know whats wrong. Could it be a dead core? How can I check?
1) My WinRAR score with the TLB fix enabled is a sickening 80!!! vs 454 disabled. So I am certain that the fix was disabled at my score of 454.
2)Regarding number of active cores:
a) When I run task manager I see only ONE window for CPU in performance.
b) Running CPU-Z V1.49 shows ONE Processor ONE Core
c) CrystalCUPID V 4.15 shows only ONE of One cores (Code name Agena?) I should see 1/FOUR
d) In Vista Sidebar using mCPU Gadget: Shows Four cores HOWEVER
only ONE ever displays activity. I tested it by really loading up applications and Never saw activity of the other three cores!!!......
More Ram Back Index To Update: Show Old Score
May 22, 2008I just added more RAM to my machine. I went back to the index to update, and nothing was there. It showed my old score, which needed to be updated, but there weren't any other graphics on the page. Anyone seen this problem before?

Mar 23, 2008I have an issue that I have just notied several files that I deleted over a month ago are still visible when doing searches on my computer. When trying to delete that I'm told that it is "no longer located in" the folder it was.
When looking in the original folder the files were in they are not visible.
They can only be seen when doing a search. Does anyone know how to completely get rid of them?
I believe this should happen automatically, but it does not appear to have worked as it was a long time ago that I originally deleted them.
Windows Mail Not Showing Full Contacts

Previously, I would type the first letter of an email address and I would get all of the contacts to whom I've sent email as options for the address. Now, I seem to only get a list of people I've emailed within the last day or two. This is annoying (for example, when I cc myself, I seem to have to type in the address every time).
