Index Service Not Indexing Outlook
Jun 7, 2008I'm running Vista x64 and Outlook (Office) 2007. I've used Outlook's "Data File Management" menu to re-locate my .pst files to a separate drive (a raid array) so they wouldn't be on my boot drive. However, since that move, the Indexing function doesn't seem to be working. I have tried using the Index Service "advanced" options to "rebuild" the index, and it finishes in under a minute, clearly not having processed my .pst files. Is there a "more advanced" function hidden somewhere that will enable me to tell the Index service that my pst files aren't in the standard location?

Apr 19, 2008My memory exp index was 5.9 previously. For some reason, i reinstalled my Vista includeing all necessary drivers (EXACTLY the same as before). But... so weird... the memory index drops to 5.3, WTH? I don't wanna have a severe performance degradation.

Jan 1, 2009Im new to vista and have looked over this forum but cant seem to find an answer to my issue...which is: I open "Computer" then press on "Searches" (on the left) and then open "Everywhere" which returns 5,000 results...PLEASE how do i clear this list. I have rebuilt the index after removing ALL folders etc to index...now displays ZERO indexed items.
I have then turned indexing off completely on all drives (right click/properties/untick indexing option and select ALL files and subfolders)...and via admin tools/services/windows search (disabled after stopping service) I have rebooted and still thousands of results come up under: Searches/Everywhere Its driving me nuts
Service Pack 2 Won't Working
Sep 22, 2009I am running vista home premium and i have downloaded the service pack 2 download from the download centre. When i try to install it it tells me the following 'you must install windows vista service pack 1 before continuing' i definately have pack 1 installed already but to make sure i tried to install it again and it said already installed.

Mar 23, 2008I have the Diagnostic Policy Service (DPS) set to automatically start, but it never shows that it's running. When I try to start it manually, it starts and then stops with a message that says that some services just stop when they are not in use by other programs. There are no error messages on the Event Viewer that are related to this. (Just informational messages showing that it started and another showing that it stopped). This service used to work, but for some unknown reason just decided to quit functioning. Does anyone have a clue as to what's happening? I've Goggled it and have found others that have the same problem, but no solutions were located.

Jul 27, 2009Last night my Vista Ultimate x64 said there was 1 available update. This update was SP2 for Vista.
So I let it install. After the PC rebooted SP2 was installed, but, none of my games worked. Call Of Duty WAW, Call Of Duty 4, Prototype, Overlord, bionic commander each one of these games started to boot and then either shows me a blank screen, or crashes to desktop.
I found that there was later versions of my graphics card and my sound card so I updated both of these. It made no difference. I then uninstalled and re-installed Bionic Commander. Again no difference this game didn't work.
WMP11 Network Sharing Service Has Stopped Working
Aug 30, 2008I can not longer share files ie video, music, pics, with any other pc in my house including my ps3. This just started 2 days ago. Everytime I started WMP11 I get the file sharing box telling me to check my sharing settings; I check them and and everything seems fine. I also have turned off both of my firewalls from Live Onecare and windows firewall. I currently am running Vista Ultimate 32bit with intel Q6600(quad core 2.40) 2gb ram, geforce 8600gts 512mb. I also recently cleaned up my desktop and don't know if I got rid of something I shouldn't have. WMP11 works fine. I also get this every 3 minutes or so popping up. Mar 29, 2007I also have a network sharing service problem - Vista displays, occasion (and I havent worked out WHAT occasions yet): "windows media player network sharing service stopped working and was closed" - followed by some bulls£$t about windows informing me of a solution when it becomes available. This pop up appears relentlessly - about once every 30 seconds, and i can see the system performance hitting 100% CPU for 5 seconds or so each time it does.

Jan 24, 2010I have the following error message when trying to login to vista on my laptop:
The User Profile Service service failed the login.
User profile cannot be loaded.
Just before the problem happened I was working to remove the Anti Virus Live virus from my laptop via the techsupportforum.com forum.
Two things I did within the hour of the problem happening are:
1. I ran the malware removal program OTL

2. I cleared and set system restore's cash-

Further details-I can and am able to login to Safe Mode I do not have a program called System Restore in the System Tools folder In Safe Mode I was able to change my password, but in normal mode I get the same error message I did windows updates and then tried to remove some of those updates, with only a few files that wouldn't allow me to delete them. Thank you for visiting my thread. If anyone has any ideas on how I can fix my problem it would be great to hear about them.
Windows Search Service And Indexing Service Do Not Work
Jul 23, 2007Also my Windows Search service does not start. When I try to start it, I get these errors in the event log:
1. "The Windows Search Service cannot open the Jet property store.
The content index server cannot update or access information because of a database error. Stop and restart the search service. If the problem persists, reset and recrawl the content index. In some cases it may be necessary to delete and recreate the content index. (0x8004117f)"
2. "The Windows Search Service has failed to created the new system catalog. Internal error <4,0x8004117f>."
I'm totally lost as how to solve this problem. I spent hours on the web trying to find a solution, with no luck sofar. Anyone here who has a clue how to solve this one?

Service That Fails To Start (Bonjour Service)
Apr 16, 2008I use Vista Ultimate 64.
For the past few weeks I've been having an issue with an Apple made service called "Bonjour Service". That service is used in several pieces of software including iTunes (which I do not use) but also some Adobe applications (Version Cue for example) and the font management utility I use which is Extensis Suitcase 11.0.1 for Windows.
Both Version Cue and Suitcase depend on the Bonjour Service to work and I have had no issues with it for months but recently, the Bonjour Service stopped working and would not start anymore. It now gives this error message when trying to start it:
"('Bonjour Service' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."
My user account is an admin account so privileges is not an issue. I had made no changes to my system myself before the Bonjour service began to "refuse" starting but I remember that I installed a few Windows updates a couple days prior. My machine is always on and I don't re-boot everyday.
So I was wondering if anyone has heard of the issue and knows how I might fix it or if anyone can give me pointers on how I my start trouble shooting this and find what started preventing the Bonjour Service from starting. FWIW, the Windows Firewall is already off and turning off my anti-virus doesn't help (Eset NOD32).
Windows Experience Index ..
Apr 9, 2009This morning my computer started issuing security alerts notifying me that the firewall was off as was the malware. I turn the firewall on but under the malware section it indicates that it is reporting to the security centre in a format that is no longer supported. It also has a little Not Compatible icon to the right of the malware icon on the left. Once the firewall is turned on and the malware turns from red to yellow when we turn it on the shield in the bottom right of the screen goes yellow for a while but eventually it goes red again and I am again notified that the firewall is off and the malware is off as well.
I know my subscription is still in effect and according to the system it expires 10/03/2010.
Index Shows As Graphics Gtx 275
Nov 4, 2009My gtx 275 on windows experience index shows as graphics 5.9 and gaming graphics 5.8 WTF ARGGH I just bought this card and before i had a 9800gt which score 5.9 in both whatt? iv refreshed the score twice and i think u guys know which card is better a 9800gt or a gtx 275? Iv got the new beta 195.39 nvidia drivers!

Mar 23, 2008my vista Home Premium has yet again got the index/search not working. Start/Control panel/ Index Options, gives me a dialogue box that says the index is not running and all the other functions are greyed out. I have had this before and found that I had to reinstall Vista (a fix was expected early 08) I believe it is being caused by my external hard drive being removed and the drive no longer is available to the Index?.
I have tried the "0 in SetupCompletedSuccessfully" fix, and copying the
gathrprm.txt and schema.txt files to the configure Folder.I have a Sony VGN-FZ11z fully updated with Vista Home Premium. I really dont want to reinstall again.
Index Base Score More Than 4.8
May 24, 2008at the moment my base score is 4.8 on ram every thing else is 5.9 my question is that if i add 4gb of ram more as that is what my computer can take will it up my score to more than 4.8

Mar 7, 2008This is a known bug according to several Internet sources. So how can I DISABLE indexing of network shares? I have a network share which has like 200 folder/sub-folders, and everytime I access it, it works for a second or two, then it hangs windows explorer, sometimes hanging my whole PC (explorer.exe)!!!
And I know it is doing this because the root folder only has like 20 sub-folders, all of which I can clearly see listed, but when I do a Wireshark capture (tcpdump), I see all the sub-folders and files being listed, so I know it must be spidering the share and indexing everything. The worst part is, this share is on a NetApp, so there are .hourly and .daily and .weekly and .monthly snapshots of all my data.. In all, it is several dozen gigabyes of files, folders, and sub-folders, all of which Vista is "attempting" to index, but cannot/store. how to turn off indexing? Heck, I'd be happy with NO (not even local) indexing just to avoid this damned problem again and again. No known ETA on a fix from MSFT, from what I can find.. Which is a shame!
NTFS Index Corrupt?
Jan 7, 2009when I powered up my Vista I noticed that it was unusually slow and all of a sudden, it froze for no apparent reason. I rebooted [by pressing reset on case as keyboard wouldn't respond] and booted into XP and ran chkdsk on the Vista partition. Sure enough, it found two errors but in the index area. Here's the output of DOS window:

Not Index Documents Folder?
Nov 22, 2008I've been surfing the web for ages and tried many fixes I've been reading, including this one, to address my specific problem. Yours is a GREAT tutorial, by the way. But it does not work for me. My problem is that the Vista search box won't find ANY file under my Documents folder. I have selected "index this folder" under the properties of the folder but it won't work. If I go to control panel the only folder that is included is "Users", but does this mean "c:users" or not? I have no clue! if I try to manually add a folder from this control panel / indexing window I can not navigate to "c:usersmy_user_namedocuments" folder because it does not show up as you can see on this screen capture! what the hell is going on? I am already thinking of reinstalling the whole system but I'd like to know how I went into this situation or else I risk doing the same again.

Mar 23, 2008I'm just wondering how the 2x 1GB 5-5-5-18 2T DDR2-4200(Scores 5.9) in my mums computer scores more than my 4x1GB 4-3-3-10 1T DDR2-6400(Scores 5.4). The timings have made no difference to the score when I have changed them and I can play modern games perfectly. Could it be due to my processor(Core 2 Duo Quad) or my motherboard(Fatal1ty IN-9 SLI)? An overall rating of 5.4 for my computer seems a tad low since it's all top of the range components.

Apr 27, 2009I have a folder under my user profile folder, let's name it folder1. It's the same level as documents, pictures, etc. It is indexed. Index has been complete.
This is the weird behavior:
when i go to folder1 and search nothing appears. It's blatantly a bug because I search a text in the first filename i see yet it still turns out nothing!
But when I search from my user profile folder, it finds something from folder1.
I have rebuilt the index many times over.
Imporving Aero Index Score?
