We have Norton ntivirus 2009 and all patches and downloads for Windows have been completed. I have Verizon Broadband as my connection and my ISP is another company. I have contacted both of these companies and have reset my incoming and outgoing servers several times, before and after all of the updates for Windows and Norton. I have also shut off the email scanning on Norton. The only thing I have not done is somthing called "Turning off Background Compaction" What in the world is this and how would any regular Joe KNOW to do this?

There is no error message but I looked into it a little closer after not getting replies from several email I had sent out. The email go into my out box and appear to leave as normal when sent. I have gone into tools and "set as default" but it doesn't stay, so I went online to find an answer - I got some great help from an earlier post but when I went into Default programs - set program access and computer default - custom I find "use my current email program" but no tick boxes for enable access to this program.
I'm a bit stumped about where to go next. NB: I had to reset my computer back to factory settings in July as I lost sound following the service pack 2 download. I can't email photo's or send links for webpages. Also in the set default programs it has windows mail (news) as my default.
Has anyone figured out when and how we can embed some mp3 music to emails we send. It is one of the functions I always loved in OE, but since Vista arrived with Windows Mail it has gone. It used to be simply a matter of Format/Background/Sound and indeed you can still do this in Vista Mail, but it will not allow itself to be sent. Indeed you get shown a rather ambiguous error message which states,
" One or more of the pictures in this message could not be found. When you send this message these pictures will not be included. Are you sure you want to send this message? And you have a YES?NO option. Can anyone tell me if its a known fault that will be addressed by MS.? or possibly whether there is any add-on or indeed software that could assist.
I have Vista and I find out Hotmail is not longer supported. That is just great! I have done the stuff to still use my hotmail account (I think). However, how do I set up this Windows Live mail account?? When I put in my email address as xxxxx@hotmail.com I get the error message that Hotmail is no longer supported. So what what is my email address extension now? I cannot send pictures out of Photoshop and other problems now that Hotmail is not supported.
