Default Email With Windows Mail

Sep 14, 2009

I can't set my email as default. I have gone into tools and "set as default" but it doesn't stay, so I went online to find an answer - I got some great help from an earlier post but when I went into Default programs - set program access and computer default - custom I find "use my current email program" but no tick boxes for enable access to this program.

I'm a bit stumped about where to go next. NB: I had to reset my computer back to factory settings in July as I lost sound following the service pack 2 download. I can't email photo's or send links for webpages. Also in the set default programs it has windows mail (news) as my default.

, Outlook 07 And Exchange 03: Open Outlook It Says, Cannot Open The Default E-mail Folders

Mar 23, 2008

When I boot up in the morning, I have to wait 20 to 30 mins before Outlook 07 will connect to my Exchange 2003 server. Until then, when I try to open Outlook it says, cannot open the default e-mail folders. And it suggests there is a network issue or that the Exchange server is down. These are not the case. The Exchange server is up and there are no network issues. I have many other computers attached to the network and none of them have this issue. Some our XP Pro/Office 07, some are XP Pro/Office 2003. The big difference with my machine is that it is Vista.

After about 20 to 30 minutes, wow! it connects! And then it's good for the rest of the day. I usually only minimize Outlook after I actually get it open so the connection is maintained throughout the day. I'm not sure what would happen if I closed it completely. But one thing is for sure, every morning, it takes 20 to 30 minutes before it will connect. Eventually, it always connects.

Email Account- Outlook Express Vs. Windows Mail

Apr 4, 2008

While using XP Outlook Express, I was able to add the account for my online school, Walden University. Everything still worked fine even after I upgraded my computer from XP to Vista. Now the school has changed their email program to be some kind of eCampus. I followed their instructions for adding an account to Outlook Express and was told that they should be the exact same for Vista Windows Mail. However, when I set up the account, before I can send and receive, I get a user verification screen where I have to type in my user name and password. This screen just shows up repeatedly even though I know I am using the right user name and password. I finally hit cancel and receive an error that my email could not complete execution to send and retrieve email messages for that account.

It is set as a POP account. I don't know if there is a problem with Vista compatibility, or a problem since I still have dialup and not highspeed, or if the school is wrong with their instructions for adding an account. I can provide more specific information regarding all the settings if anyone thinks they can help me. I am extremely frustrated with this since I have been able to view my school emails through my personal email account for years. Now I have to login to the school webpage and check my emails via a different link. I know it doesn't sound like that big of a deal, but the convenience factor right now is huge in my little world.

Emailing Pictures From Windows Explorer - Email Button Brings Outlook Instead Of Thunderbird

Jun 26, 2009

Contact has a Vista business laptop that until recently when you went into Windows Explorer to look at pictures you can press the email button and it would prepare an email in their email client Mozilla Thunderbird with the image as a file attachment.

However recently this has changed back to Microsoft Outlook for no particular reason. Checked all the defaults and they all point to Thunderbird still being the default program for email. Under file associations, have checked that for protocols, SENDTO is set to Thunderbird. However the "E-mail" button still now brings up Outlook. How can I change this back. It's very frustrating and I've played around for a good long while.

Outlook: Mail Handler Default Option

Dec 29, 2007

I am using a laptop with Win Vista and Outlook 2007. I have set Outlook to the the default mail handler (both in Start/Default Programs and in Tools/Options in Outlook). Yet, when I start Windows Mail and look under its Tools/Options menu, it shows that "this application is the default mail handler"! In other words, both programs seem to treat themselves as the default ones. This is a problem because whenever I try to install the Plaxo Windows toolbar, it adds it to Windows Mail (not Outlook, which is the program I use and want to be the SINGLE default mailer).

Windows Live, Send An Email, Outlook Would Pop Up And Say "no."

May 4, 2008

When I go to websites, sometimes they have an email address (contact address) that I need to send an email to. XP would not allow me to use such a function with Hotmail because Outlook would pop up and say "no." This I understand because Hotmail is not allowed with Outlook. Now, that I've switched to Vista and Windows Live, I click on a website's contact email address and instead of Outlook popping out I get a Windows Live form which allows me to write an email to that website's contact address.

When I send the email (I have a Hotmail address) I do not get any errors and Windows Live gives me no indication that I have made an error. Yet, when I go to my Hotmail address, there is no indication that I had sent an email to the mentioned website's contact address. So, what gives? Can I use Hotmail as my email address when using Windows Live to send email to a website's contact address? Or do I just go back to copying the website's contact email address and pasting it into my Hotmail's address form like I did with XP, and now Vista?

Email Setting In Outlook Won't Allow Email

Reversing Default Email

Apr 1, 2009

In my haste while updating Windows Live Essentials, I inadvertently selected
???Windows Live Mail??? as my default email program. Before this update, I was
successfully using my Verizon account via Windows Live Mail to access all of
my personal and business email accounts, both sending and receiving, as they
all were listed in the email program. There was also my set of storage
folders, which were converted to Windows Live Mail "Local Folders," I
suppose.

Now, after the update, all of my email accounts no longer exist. The only things listed are my "Local Folders" and ???Microsoft Communities.? When I go into Tools on the menu bar, and Accounts, the only Account listed under ???Mail??? is ???incoming.verizon.net (default)??? and none other. Not even the Windows Live Mail account shows up there. Is there a way to get all my accounts back?......

Can't Open Default Email Folder

Dec 5, 2008

I inadvertently said I was using an exchange server and now I am trapped in a never-ending cycle of error messages that will not let me change the server settings to the appropriate pop server. In XP you can go to: Control Panel/Mail/Email Accounts/View or Change Existing accounts, but this option doesn't seem to exist in Vista. Here are the messages I get and the outcomes, I've also attached a couple of screen shots. "The connection to Microsoft Exchange is Unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action." At the same time a smaller window is open that says "Configuring Outlook Accounts" The only options presented are to click "X" or "OK" to close the window, once this is done the Microsoft Exchange Window opens with the incorrect server name and account name that I typed in originally. If I try to delete them and click "apply" or "ok" or simply click "X" the following window message appears from Microsoft Outlook:
"Cannot open your default email folders. The file C:/Users/HP/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Outlook/Outlook.ost is not an offline folder file." The options at this point are to click "X" or "Ok" once done the program closes. I have tried uninstalling Office and re-installing, but the Microsoft Exchange Server still remains. I am connected to the internet, all I want to do is change from Exchange Server to pop and supply the necessary pop and smtp information to set-up my email properly. I have been pouring over this for the better part of the day and what's worse is this is for my work email. I am in a remote office, on a laptop, without an IT guy at the moment.

Change Default Email In File Folders

Feb 14, 2010

I have two versions of Eudora on my PC but only one (Eudora 8 beta) is recognized in file folders that contain *.jpg files (as of today).

Before today, I would highlight a JPG and click on Email at the top of the open folder. Eudora 7.1 would come up and all I had to do was put in an email address. I should say that I use Eudora 7.1 with two sets of data - one for me and one for my wife.

However, my wife's version would come up which is what I want. As of today, Eudora 8 beta comes up when I click on Email. I have no idea how the association changed.

I also don't know why my wife's version of Eudora 7.1 used to come up instead of mine.

There must be a way to reset the association. I tried resetting the association in Internet Explorer - but only Eudora 8 beta is available as a choice. That's another problem. Why isn't Eudora 7.1 a choice in file associations in Internet Explorer 8?

Cannot Make Default Email Program With Vista

Jul 15, 2008

I'm not even sure if this is where I should post this but I'll give it a go. I purchased a new PC last week with Vista Home Premium on it. I have (for years) used MSN Premium software as my email program. Now, it seems I can't make this my default email program with Vista. I am going nuts! I have spoken to MSN support who tell me to do the same things over and over. I have also spoken to Microsoft support who told me I have to use Outlook or Windows Live mail instead.

It's really hard. I have taught my elderly parents how to use the MSN software and now we have to change - or do we? I've tried the email settings in MSN itself, I've tried associations for programs in Vista and also the default programs. Nothing is working. Surely, one Microsoft program should work with another? We pay for this software so that we can also have sub accounts on our email more storage than the usual hotmail space.
