I'm having trouble making Outlook my default email program. It does not appear as an option in setting default programs even though it's definitely a registered program. And Windows Mail cannot be uninstalled since it's part of the OS.
I have several email accounts configured on my windows mail on my Vista home premium and one of them is configured as the default email. When I reply to emails received on email accounts other than the default email the "from" email address does not change to the email address of the received account.
I understand that the email address in the "from' field when I start a "new" message or create mail is that of the configured default email. My question is while replying to an email received in other configured accounts should not the "from" field email id change from the default email id to the email address of the email to which is replied.
I'm not even sure if this is where I should post this but I'll give it a go. I purchased a new PC last week with Vista Home Premium on it. I have (for years) used MSN Premium software as my email program. Now, it seems I can't make this my default email program with Vista. I am going nuts! I have spoken to MSN support who tell me to do the same things over and over. I have also spoken to Microsoft support who told me I have to use Outlook or Windows Live mail instead.
It's really hard. I have taught my elderly parents how to use the MSN software and now we have to change - or do we? I've tried the email settings in MSN itself, I've tried associations for programs in Vista and also the default programs. Nothing is working. Surely, one Microsoft program should work with another? We pay for this software so that we can also have sub accounts on our email more storage than the usual hotmail space.
Is there any possibility of changing the sound device programatically in Windows 7? Or atleast to make the device as the default sound device during installation? In Vista, I could use SetupPreferredAudioDevice key in INF file to make it as default at the time of installation, but I could see that this key is no more valid in Windows 7. Is there any alternative for this?
I installed SRS Audio Soundbox on my HP laptop running vista ultimate with Realtek HD audio. It installed a audio device of its own, which I can select under control panel->sound. SRS Soundbox panel is set to start with windows. But I only want to use SRS to process audio coming out of Zoom-Player, so I have setup Zoom Player to use this audio device instead of default Realtek. My problem is that everytime laptop restarts or wakes from sleep (essentially everytime SRS's control panel starts), SRS makes itself the default audio device, which I have to go and change back to Realtek. Is there a way I could lock-up the default device, so it wouldn't change?? or do something else so that Realtek stays the default audio device.
When I create a new desktop shortcut to a webpage, I like to assign a distinctive icon to it - either an ICO file, or it seems possible to assign a BMP bitmap image. Trouble is, windows keeps changing it back to the default internet shortcut icon.
When trying to send mail, I get an error message that reads--smtp,port25,server(ssl):no,socket error:10060,error number:0x800cccoe. Vista won't allow me to make Window my default e-mail program.
Ill try not to look to dumb here, but I just installed Vista Home Prem 64 about a week ago and I have a question. There seems to be two Program Files to install applications into, Program Files and Program Files (x86). I know the x86 refers to 32 bit OS. So why do all my applications want to default install into the x86 Program Files? Is there a difference in installing into either one of them? Could it cause issues that anyone knows of? Should I uninstall out of my x86 and reinstalled my application into the non-x86 Program Files?
Trouble getting new email address (hotmail.com) recognized as default email. Tried all methods posted on forums: tools option and control panel. Control panel default settings will not allow option to disable Windows Mail. (grayed out). Register Hotmail software says only Vista but I am using Vista. Also cannot open old email program (Windows Mail) : getting error message MSOE.DLL 0x8007002: Checked and followed all advice on forums. Have also stopped virus software from scanning emails.
This is the Context Menu that I'm referring to, accessed by Start>Pictures>[Open a Folder to display thumbnails], Right-click on Thumbnail. With my current settings [where?], if I select and click on Edit, MS Windows Paint opens as the Default Editing Program. I don't like Paint at all, and want to change from that current Default Program, to allow my Pictures to be opened and edited by Picasa. Is there a method by which I can change that Context Menu, so that by clicking on Edit, the selected thumbnail automatically opens in Picasa And before anyone leaps in and suggests any other editing program from the plethora of others available [eg. Photoshop etc.], please don't waste your time - I'm not interested in them, as Picasa fulfills all of my basic photo editing requirements. Basically, I'm looking for a shortcut to open Picasa with just one click, as I'm aware that I can also get there through Open with, in the same Context Menu.
i encounter for quite a while now is that when i download emails it only receive one or two at a time. So every time i need to click on the send and receive or wait untill it downloads on its own time. i tried several conections and can not remember changing any settings.
I'm running Vista on a PC that has a hd that has been formated into 3 discrete drives.Vista is loaded onto the C drive, programmes are loaded onto the d drive while i have my data stored on my E drive. By default any documents I save are directed towards My Documents on the C drive - how I go about changing that so the default is my Documents on the E drive?
Referring to Microsoft Mail on Vista computer: I have two email accounts using MS Mail. A is my default account, B is not. When mail is sent to my B account, I can't reply to it. It sits in outbox with an error message. I can only reply to mail sent to A, the default account. Is there a way to set it up so I can reply to mail using both accounts?
In my haste while updating Windows Live Essentials, I inadvertently selected ???Windows Live Mail??? as my default email program. Before this update, I was successfully using my Verizon account via Windows Live Mail to access all of my personal and business email accounts, both sending and receiving, as they all were listed in the email program. There was also my set of storage folders, which were converted to Windows Live Mail "Local Folders," I suppose.
Now, after the update, all of my email accounts no longer exist. The only things listed are my "Local Folders" and ???Microsoft Communities.? When I go into Tools on the menu bar, and Accounts, the only Account listed under ???Mail??? is ???incoming.verizon.net (default)??? and none other. Not even the Windows Live Mail account shows up there. Is there a way to get all my accounts back?......
I set it as default in IE, by using the default setting button and windows mail, but revert rite back to not set as the default email client. It is missing from the default program listing.
I am running IE 7 under Vista Home Premium 64 bit with SP1. I made Yahoo my home page and want to make Yahoo Mail my default email client instead of Outlook or Windows Mail. However, when I get to the window where I can select my default programs, Yahoo is not listed. According to Yahoo Help, as long as the Yahoo Toolbar is loaded (it is), Yahoo Mail should be in the list. I've tried loading the toolbar several times, but it jes' ain't there.
I can't seem to get Windows Mail to accept my setting of a preferred font for the default. I am setting Ariel, but when a go to enter text in an email it uses the first font on the font list.
I can't set my email as default. I have gone into tools and "set as default" but it doesn't stay, so I went online to find an answer - I got some great help from an earlier post but when I went into Default programs - set program access and computer default - custom I find "use my current email program" but no tick boxes for enable access to this program.
I'm a bit stumped about where to go next. NB: I had to reset my computer back to factory settings in July as I lost sound following the service pack 2 download. I can't email photo's or send links for webpages. Also in the set default programs it has windows mail (news) as my default.
this is the first time i am using windows mail. in all earlier versions like outlook / express etc, i know this option where you can use word as default editor for composing all new mail messages. this ensures that we can format / allign / bullet etc just like in word. However, this windows mail thing is not showing me this option of using word as default editor for composing all new messages / replies.
I inadvertently said I was using an exchange server and now I am trapped in a never-ending cycle of error messages that will not let me change the server settings to the appropriate pop server. In XP you can go to: Control Panel/Mail/Email Accounts/View or Change Existing accounts, but this option doesn't seem to exist in Vista. Here are the messages I get and the outcomes, I've also attached a couple of screen shots. "The connection to Microsoft Exchange is Unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action." At the same time a smaller window is open that says "Configuring Outlook Accounts" The only options presented are to click "X" or "OK" to close the window, once this is done the Microsoft Exchange Window opens with the incorrect server name and account name that I typed in originally. If I try to delete them and click "apply" or "ok" or simply click "X" the following window message appears from Microsoft Outlook: "Cannot open your default email folders. The file C:/Users/HP/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Outlook/Outlook.ost is not an offline folder file." The options at this point are to click "X" or "Ok" once done the program closes. I have tried uninstalling Office and re-installing, but the Microsoft Exchange Server still remains. I am connected to the internet, all I want to do is change from Exchange Server to pop and supply the necessary pop and smtp information to set-up my email properly. I have been pouring over this for the better part of the day and what's worse is this is for my work email. I am in a remote office, on a laptop, without an IT guy at the moment.
I have two versions of Eudora on my PC but only one (Eudora 8 beta) is recognized in file folders that contain *.jpg files (as of today).
Before today, I would highlight a JPG and click on Email at the top of the open folder. Eudora 7.1 would come up and all I had to do was put in an email address. I should say that I use Eudora 7.1 with two sets of data - one for me and one for my wife.
However, my wife's version would come up which is what I want. As of today, Eudora 8 beta comes up when I click on Email. I have no idea how the association changed.
I also don't know why my wife's version of Eudora 7.1 used to come up instead of mine.
There must be a way to reset the association. I tried resetting the association in Internet Explorer - but only Eudora 8 beta is available as a choice. That's another problem. Why isn't Eudora 7.1 a choice in file associations in Internet Explorer 8?
My system restore fails every time I attempt it. This has happened the last 3 times I had a need to attempt restore. (Three attempts separated by months in time, about different issues.) This time, I am thinking something may be wrong with my system restore function.
In this case, it is simply a matter of trying to roll back a browser update.
I saw a whole list of available restore points, and I went to the second one back - from only a few days ago. The restore failed.
I am using Windows Vista Home Premium, OEM from Gateway Laptop about 1.5 yrs old. I allow most updates.
i went to open a zip file by right clicking on it, choosing "open with" and then "Choose Default Program." Accidentally, I chose Word. Now, I can't seem to change this. I can't find an option anywhere to get rid of this, nor is it showing me the "extract" options anymore when I right click. None of the options in the Start Menus Default Programs tab seem to do anything of use for me either.
Recently some default security policies has been changed on my Vista, apparently as the result of upgrades to my system.
1: I can no longer activate an URL received in an incoming email directly but must copy the URL to the address bar in my Internet Explorer. This makes sense and I can live with that.
2: I discover that I can no longer open some of my word documents "created in an earlier version of Microsoft Office". The message refers to registry policy settings and the help system refers to a Microsoft knowledge base article 922850 that leads me nowhere useful.
I was tired yesterday and accidentally deleted the email program from the start menu in Vista. The program is completely gone. How do I reinstall Winmail?
What email should I use when I convert to Windows 7 in a few days? I must be able to easily convert thousands of emails in hundreds of folders, many nested within other folders, maybe 3 or 4 deep. I have 8 or more email addresses that Windows Mail checks automatically. Is OEX any good?
When I try to send an email with an XML file attachment, the program (windows live mail) hangs and nothing gets to the outbox. I have to send it with a computer running XP.
