Is there any possibility of changing the sound device programatically in Windows 7? Or atleast to make the device as the default sound device during installation? In Vista, I could use SetupPreferredAudioDevice key in INF file to make it as default at the time of installation, but I could see that this key is no more valid in Windows 7. Is there any alternative for this?
View 8 RepliesI installed SRS Audio Soundbox on my HP laptop running vista ultimate with Realtek HD audio. It installed a audio device of its own, which I can select under control panel->sound. SRS Soundbox panel is set to start with windows. But I only want to use SRS to process audio coming out of Zoom-Player, so I have setup Zoom Player to use this audio device instead of default Realtek. My problem is that everytime laptop restarts or wakes from sleep (essentially everytime SRS's control panel starts), SRS makes itself the default audio device, which I have to go and change back to Realtek. Is there a way I could lock-up the default device, so it wouldn't change?? or do something else so that Realtek stays the default audio device.

I do not know much about it as it is not mine, but the problem is the audio was cutting out and now there is nothing. The computer is not recognizing any type of audio device installed. Even in Device Manager, there is no option for Sound, game and controllers. I have tried downloading the driver and installing, but no luck there.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have several email accounts configured on my windows mail on my Vista home premium and one of them is configured as the default email. When I reply to emails received on email accounts other than the default email the "from" email address does not change to the email address of the received account.
I understand that the email address in the "from' field when I start a "new" message or create mail is that of the configured default email. My question is while replying to an email received in other configured accounts should not the "from" field email id change from the default email id to the email address of the email to which is replied.
Ok so for a few days now my audio has not been working, I use it quite frequently with itunes and dvds etc but not ever very loudly. I've been on my laptop's website and have tried everything they've suggested except for system restore, and nothing has worked. I've made sure my computer is completely updated, I have downloaded the newest update of the audio driver from the website, and still no luck. In Device Manager it says everything is working, I have no error signs either. The mixer picks up the sounds when I test for it, I just can't hear it! It doesn't work with headphones either, although when I plug my headphones in and pull the socket in and out a little bit I can hear crackles in the headphones.

But, If we have restarted PC, mostly the problem solved for that time. some times, when I use some audio files, sound crackles and stop working, windows media player error code C00D11B1 appears and sound has gone untill it is restarted. View 6 Replies View RelatedFew days back, I was installing/uninstalling some programs. I don't know what went wrong, suddenly I found the links in "Computer" are not working. When I open "My Computer" ("Computer" in Vista), all the links like "Device Manager", "Remote Settings" etc are not working. It says for "Device Manager" - "Windows cannot find '%SystemRoot%\system32devmgmt.msc". However, if I run the same command from a DOS window, it exists. This is same for all the other links. My sound icon in the task bar also marked a permanent red cross. If I open Volume Mixer, it says - No audio device found. But I can still hear sound. I don't know what to do.

I checked the Help page about this subject, and found out that the drivers or my "PnP Audio Device" are not up to date (there is a yellow triangle with !-mark in front of it). View 7 Replies View RelatedAlthough the built in speakers in my laptop work perfectly - music, dvds, videos, etc. - my vista default sound scheme has stopped working. It was working previously and I am at a loss to understand why it has stopped. I have checked that the speakers are not muted, ensured that the levels are properly set, checked that I have the most up to date driver, etc., etc., etc. None of the sounds work, including the start up, normal alerts and so on. When I go to the sound scheme and test individual sounds they do not play, however, if I open the individual sound files they will sound in media player. I know there is an expert out there somewhere who will know what to do.

Did a clean install, installed motherboard BIOS updates, scanner BIOS updates, Vista updates and the correct driver from HP. The scanner installed and Device Manager says device is working properly. When I try to scan, scanner initializes, starts to scan then locks up. Then can no longer be seen. ASUS M2N-E motherboard with AMD dual core. Other than that Vista works OK with the rest of my system
View 9 Replies View Relatedi have installed the correct driver for this belkin bluetooth usb dongle model: F8T012XX1 but in device manager, it has the belkin device and microsoft bluetooth enumerator, which is great. but when u get further down the list. it has a tab named "other devices" and then a subtab with "bluetooth peripheral device" which has an exclemation mark on it. i have searched for driver software using the update service but it cant find no update. i have looked for the name of the manufacturer but found nothing.i then disabled the unknown device, and sent a picture to my mobile phone. which confirmed that it was not the belkin bluetooth device. so i uninstalled the unknown device, restarted the computer. then when i logged in, it said that it had found a new device and wanted me to find the CD that came with it.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm running Home Premium 64 on a Sony Vaio Laptop (CS170F). I'm having a curious problem: Yesterday I plugged into the machine the dongle of my wireless logitech mouse, and for some reason the machine said "Your unknown device is ready to use" (my OS is in spanish, the messages may not be accurately translated). Since then, an annoying message pops every few seconds warning about an "unrecognized USB device", that "didn't work as expected". The best part is this, if I click on the tray icon, sometimes the informative dialog window is emply, an other times shows all the USB ports in the system plus one extra with a "unknown UBS device", even without any device plugged into the system. I've tryed removing the unknown device from the device manager, but it shows up again.
I had been running Vista Ultimate x64 for a few months and recently found that I can only use the original USB mouse?! Installation of any USB mouse would show a new "USB Human Interface Device" in Device Manager but it just won't work. Installation of the very same model of my original mouse didn't work neither. So basically I am stick with the current mouse?

Meaning when I record something, it would record whatever is playing on the computer. But I forgot how to make that setting.

It then went to reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. I went into the BIOS to change the boot order and inserted my Vista home premium 32bit. I then got windows is loading in files. After a short while I got the black start up screen with Microsoft Corporation but after a few seconds it just froze. Moments later it went to a blue screen with white writing part of which said the following; A PROBLEM HAS BEEN DETECTED AND WINDOWS HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN TO PREVENT DAMAGE TI YOUR COMPUTER.
I just upgraded to Vista U x64 and am having sound problems. I have a prelude x-fi sound card but the sound coming out of it is extremely low. I have maxed out every thing I can max (control panel sound, creative panel) and the sound level is whisper quiet. I have also upgraded all my drivers except the prelude's, I would but their website isn't offering those drivers at the moment. But the drivers supplied with the card are vista certified so I should get something. But my mobo, etc is all updated. I have been searching for a solution for two days to no avail.

Or, do I have to go through the entire process of re-formatting/wiping the drives and start from scratch? I am using the Ultimate version, and am not sure about these things.

Hard to find software to work on it, occassionally I can make something work by changing the compability mode or running as administrator. Had I known all this when I got the computer, I would not have bought it.
How much trouble (cost too) to have someone change from Vista 64 to Vista 32. I am guessing that entails new drivers etc. I am just a normal user, don't play games, only the granddaughter age 11 plays games like Nancy Drew.
