I am running Windows Vista-Home Premium Edition x64 bit and Internet Explorer 8. I would like to know where and how I can make a back up disc for "BOOKMARKS"? Knowing this how can this backup disc be applied back into Windows I/E 8 "Bookmarks" should I ever need to restore Bookmarks?
View 3 RepliesI have a Gateway MT6707 notebook that came preinstalled with Windows Vista Home Premium. I upgraded to a new larger hard drive but the start up disc I created doesn't contain the operating system. I know it's the disc because I tried my startup disc from my other computer and it goes through all of the microsoft motions to the point where it says "This disc is not for this computer". How do I make a start updisc from my Gateway that will contain the operating system so I can use my new hard drive?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to install backup and hard disc recovery software on my laptop and two PCs.I am impressed with Acronis True Image Home 2009 but this requires a seperate license for each machine.However, Active@Disk Image allows installation on 3 machines and is cheaper.The OP on the laptop is Vista Home Premium, and on the PCs XP Home SP3.What do people think of either choice?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've moved from Outlook Express on my XP desktop to Windows mail on my Vista laptop. I plan on moving to Outlook on both computers, but not until I get this folder thing straightened out. I was able to import my OE mail into Windows Mail ok. Then I had a hard drive failure on my laptop. I had backed up my mail files and I was able to restore my Windows Mail ok.
I had several "Recovered Folders", but they included everything. I moved all of my folders out of the recovered folders and placed them once more under the Inbox. Then I deleted the empty recovered folders.
Now I want to backup my mail, not using the Vista backup, but with a third party. So when I go into my Windows Mail folder in Windows Explorer, I find all of the "recovered folders" are still there. Now they're listed as Local Folders. I can't find the configuration of my folders as I see them in Windows mail at all. I have a "Backup" folder with a "new" folder inside of it with a windows file that is unopenable.
Basically my gf's pc started to mess up alot, she was using it at uni with no internet connection but as soon as she finished uni and brought it back and started using the internet it started playng up, so she got it formated, but alas, no vista disc, she still has the product code on a sticker on the PC itself. She has already paid for vista so is there a way of getting the vista disc (for her pc) for free?? if so/if not where can i get one and will this work ok??
View 9 Replies View Relatedwhen i put a dvd (any dvd) into either dvd drive i get the following message : "Windows cannot access this disc. The disc might be corrupt. Make sure the disc uses a format that windows recognises. If the disc is unformatted, you need to format it before using it."
Problem 1 - is that the drives are actually ide and not scsi
Problem 2 - doesnt matter what disc i put in neither of them can read it
Problem 3 - its definatly vista an not hardware as both drives work perfect in same machine with windows 7 instalation
Ive had this problem twice before and its due to an update windows installs... but which one?? It always happens during the instalation of sp1 or within days after it. The last time it happened was at my last install of vista x64, sep 2008. I think i got the KB number from this site but i cant find the right one to uninstall. does anyone know which KB update i should uninstall please? ive spent 4 hours looking through masses of google results to no result. Ive already uninstalled KB943899 but that didnt fix it.

If I make a install cd from the XP machine, can I install it on my other Compaq machine that is running vista (it came with XP Media Center Edition 2005 but it had all this crap preloaded onto it). Or, can I reformat the XP Media Center Edition PC, and then make an install dvd out of that (i.e. will it remove the crap that Compaq put on it?).

I am running Windows VISTA Ultimate x64, do not have the original disk with me as i brought this computer to work on to my vacation spot to do some work. After running a botched program, I got a msg saying the computer would restart automaticly. Having extensive windows knowledge I know this is never a good situation to be in. I am using a windows x64 boot disk that i found from neosmart as I do not have access to the original disk.

I have tried every option in recovery options. Just to clarify, after everything posts, without errors, I get a black screen with a white cursor that moves down a few lines and doesn't do anything after that.......
my stepdaughter's laptop's hd crashed (unusable), she of course lost the system disc. I have my laptop and system disc, both laptops are gateway but different models 6752 and 6836. I have a new hd on order, and I will install vista with my disc and her windows product key (her laptop) I shouldn't have any problem with that right?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have burned many DVD (data) on my XP before I switch a computer. Now that I have a Vista x64, the CD drive won't read them. If I use ISOBuster I can see the track and extract them. But if I use Windows Explorer it will prompt me to "prepare blank disc"! Any help? I already finalize the disc and confimred it. Do a hardware diagnostic check and turns out nothing went wrong. By the way, how can I make Vista not look for application if I insert other CD.

2) Per user Queued Windows Error Report....
3) System Archived Windows Error reporting....

What are these entries? The total data of all 4 almost are a full GIG of drive space. Does this data at some point automatically get deleted? Can they "all" be safely deleted? Some and if so, which ones.
I'm wondering if there is a simple way to take your Vista Installation Disc and use it to create a custom installation disc that also includes updated drivers and updated hotfixes. The goal would be that during a clean install, those updated drivers and Windows Updates are installed automatically.
For a specific example, I use a USB Wireless Adapter. If I could create a custom windows disc that includes those drivers, then I my USB Wireless Adapter would be recognized and I could therefore allow Windows to connect to the Internet during Setup to see if there are any hotfixes and updates.

I did a complete PC backup of my system onto an external USB HDD using the backup facility in VISTA Ultimate. When I went to do a complete PC restore I am told form the Help info on VISTA Ultimate to restart my computer, push F8 and choose the 'repair' option to run the restore. WHen I do this I get the safe mode options, debugging mode etc etc but there is no 'repair' mode. How do I get to the repair mode??

Basically, I have a sneaky suspition that one of the drives is going to fail in the near future, so I backup quite regularly, but when I replace it, I want to get a bigger drive, as it's only a 150gig raptor, and I really would prefer a 500 or 1TB 7200rpm drive for storage.
Can vista restore the files I backed up on D: (the 150gig) to a new D: which would be a large disk ? If it can, could I also do the same for C: which is where vista is located? If that doesn't work,
I'd like to transfer my all windows mail / messages from Vista 32 bit to Vista 64 bit after installing clean Vista 64 bit on other Hard Drive which will be inserted as a new C; on the same PC. An old C: drive might / my not be included to this PC. An Easy Transfer is not in my case the best option. The Exporting from Vista Windows Mail does not back up all my folders and sub folders from Windows Mail directory. Not to mention that so called "Imported " folders are not the best to handle.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a 1 TB Samsung hard drive divided into 3 partitions of C:, E:, and F: When I try to run Windows Complete PC Backup, it automatically selects C: and E: It lists E: as a system drive, even though it has no OS on it and I only use it for data backups. I only wish to backup C: as it has the OS and installed programs (I use a different process to back up other data).

The full error is "The backup application could not start due to an internal error: The specified service does not exist as an installed service. (0x80070424). Please check your system configuration and try again." I have used this on different machines and has worked fine. I could not fine were it needs to be reinstalled from. Is it not part of the OS?.

The backup process produced no errors and appeared to complete successfully. However, when we restored the backup to the new hard drive, we found that there were many missing files. To this point, it appears that the missing files are all .EXE files. In many cases, all the files were restored to a folder, except for the executable (.exe). We know that these files existed when the Windows Vista Backup was performed on the original hard disk. Moreover, we backuped the same files later using a different program and have confirmed the files were there.
Is anyone aware of a problem where Windows Vista Backup is either NOT backing up all the files or is NOT restoring all the files? Furthermore, it is odd that this seems to have affected only certain files which brings us to wonder if our security software could have blocked files somehow without our knowledge

I have checked for *.PST in all indexed locations as well as all the hard drives in this computer. It made me create a profile (lvsysop) and I have searched the same locations for 'lvsysop' and "lvsysop.pst", but I can't find the file Windows Mail made. I've also checked for "outlook' and "Outlook.pst".Did it make a .PST file and if not what file did it make? It sure looked like it was making something as it scanned through the folders in Windows Mail.

In other words After I do a complete format of my disk because VISTA has said I don't have a GENUINE Verision anymore after using it for more than 8 months and actually verifying the genuineness several times but i digress.
