Crashed, Lost System Disc, Windows Product Key
Apr 6, 2009
my stepdaughter's laptop's hd crashed (unusable), she of course lost the system disc. I have my laptop and system disc, both laptops are gateway but different models 6752 and 6836. I have a new hd on order, and I will install vista with my disc and her windows product key (her laptop) I shouldn't have any problem with that right?

Basically my gf's pc started to mess up alot, she was using it at uni with no internet connection but as soon as she finished uni and brought it back and started using the internet it started playng up, so she got it formated, but alas, no vista disc, she still has the product code on a sticker on the PC itself. She has already paid for vista so is there a way of getting the vista disc (for her pc) for free?? if so/if not where can i get one and will this work ok??

I'm using a Toshiba Satellite A300-1HP and i want to format. However, i don't have any disk that includes Vista or any drivers in it, as was the case with a previous Toshiba satellite model i owned. I only have the product key for Windows vista home premium, on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop.

I've heard conflicting reports as to whether Office 2000 will run successfully under Vista. In the hope that they are compatible, I installed Office 2000 and then installed (from the Microsoft site) updates SR-1a and SP-2. Then I downloaded SP3, but when I attempted to install it, I got the message "The expected version of the product was not found on your system." Is there some reason for this, or should I just try again? I looked for, but could not find, a newsgroup that deals with Office 2000 -- is there an alternative newsgroup that would be better for these questions?

Was installing service pack 2 and system crashed now can not even get back to my old vista. Seems to be loading and then I get: !!oxc 0190005!! 9293/45274 (registrymachineschemawcm.//microsoft-...) Then it freezes. I let it stay here for 18 hours and nothing. Tried to boot with my old vista windows disk and can not get a fix or get back to loading anything. Latest error said windows can not fix problem. Frequant black screen of death after bios or it goes to above point and stops.

I have a Sony laptop with Windows Vista as operating system. The system crashed. So I initialised a new start via CTRL, ALT and DEL. Unfortunately, the shut down process got stuck and the screen just displays "shut down" without doing anything. It remained like this for a couple of minutes when I hold the turn-on/off button pressed. I was expecting to force my laptop to restart again (which is the usual case on a Windows XP machine). However, my laptop just went to the stand-by modus. Pressing the turn-on/off gave back the frozen display of "shut down".

Last night I loaded software for my new digitol camera, and after installation, I chose to reboot so new drivers would take effect. System crashed, Did not see fine print on CD that said it did not work with Vista 64 until after the fact. I was asked on screen to put in Vista 64 disk and try to repair, no luck. Only option available was to restore, the problem here was a newly built computer within the last two months and I failed to backup drives, this won't happen again. Delema was losing over half of the cd's that I loaded from a total of 2437. I had my music on a separate terabyte drive from the operating system. When you look at the music folder on the drive, albums were missing, but total gigabyte of folder had not changed, it was still a total of 277 GB. In the media player, I had checked the block to add recently deleted files and this brought back all 2437 albums in media player only, but if I look in music folder on drive under specific artist that had let say 11 albums, it only shows two in the folder. Now can someone tell me where in the heck did these go.
I did delete some older music files prior to rebuting computer, because I had replaced the 128KBPS files with 320 KBPS files, but always check to make sure number of albums in music folder matched what was in media folder, and they did match before rebooting. Is it possible to recover something after you emptied the recycle bin? Media player shows 2437 albums, music folder over half files are gone. I could probably sinc them album by album to a usb drive, or un-box my complete cd collection and load each one in again, but that would take forever, I know someone with insight can offer a better solution. I'm Desperate, and flipping out over this.

I just built me a new rigg and im having problems installing Vista Ultimate 64-bit.After i do a fresh install and update all the drivers it'll work for a few hours and all of a sudden my desktop dissapears and all my problems are gone, i then try to restart it and first thing that pops up is volume panel missing with a yellow exclaimation mark, my wallpaper has dissapeared i try to open any file/game that i install manually by going into the folder it say this program has been move or no longer on this hdd.Im only using one hdd. This is my 4th time installing vista 64 ult it happens everytime, and my vista has not last two full days of use and it runs into the same problem.I thought it may have been my hardware but i have checked them all out ran memtest rams are good tested psu.Only thing i can come up with is that its either my motherboard or it can be vista.I have until about the 17th of this month to fix this problem if not i guess i would be returning board and cpu and just return to windows pro.

My desktop crashed on me when i was reformatting it, after countless tries and couple versions of Linux, I found my old vista CD and decided to throw that on there because its the only system that i am fairly familiar with and that doesnt need codes to run stuff :P. Anyways after I put vista on it, my PC's USB ports that used to work fine have been acting weird, I tried to plug my wireless usb adapter which works on my laptop running win7 and my other desktop running win vista home basic, but with this pc it keeps saying that the device has malfunctioned. After i plug the device in it, it downloads the drivers for it but then says that it has malfunctioned. Oh and also i cant even put a usb stick on.
The funny thing is Device Manager says they are all ok and working fine. ALL 6 OF THEM ARE MALFUNCTIONING lol. (2 FRONT 4 BACK) so i was wondering if you guys could lend me helping hand and tell me what my problem is and how i can fix it. Oh here is a funny thing, with linux, my usb device used to work for it for like 30 mins and then it would cut out. Propably should mention that the device is a Zioncom WL0123 Wireless USB adapter that is supposably VISTA READY. I have done alot of research but have gotten nowhere, and i have done the whole unistall usb's and everything.

I blew out the keyboard, (thought something might have gotten down there and was the cause of this) but still no change. I tried to restart my Vista Ultimate x64, but because it was keying that letter it just kept trying to search. So I had to hit the power button. This is where it gets weird. Upon restart, it goes to some sort of recovery wizard. No log-in screen, just this wizard. If I cancelled it, my system would reboot. So, after 6 different cancels / restarts, I tried it. It did a recovery that set up two partitions on my HD, but ERASED EVERYTHING. Anything that was not installed originally on the computer was erased. There are no system restore points (Deleted as well) Don't worry, I back-up fairly often. But I'd like to know what the hell happen.

new to this website and a complete noob with computers. Every time I turn on my pc I get the error message invalid system disk, Disk boot failure, Insert system disk and press enter I found this website support.microsoft.com/kb/128730 which gives out some solution but didnt understand a thing. tried looking manual book (M2N-SLI Deluxe Motherboard) that didnt help either because am not sure what I should be looking for. I tried to put the windows vista setup disk, the vista loading bar pop up showed that it was loading. the it seemed to have froze. I also noticed that when I go into the bios setup menu, in the main section this is how it looks like
Primary IDE Master [none]
Primary IDE Slave [none]
Sata 1 [none]
Sata 2 [none]
Sata 3 [none]
Sata 4 [TSSTCorp CDDVDw]
Sata 5 [none]
Sata 6 [none]
I thought that it should have the name of my hdd in one of the square brakets.

I have a Gateway MT6707 notebook that came preinstalled with Windows Vista Home Premium. I upgraded to a new larger hard drive but the start up disc I created doesn't contain the operating system. I know it's the disc because I tried my startup disc from my other computer and it goes through all of the microsoft motions to the point where it says "This disc is not for this computer". How do I make a start updisc from my Gateway that will contain the operating system so I can use my new hard drive?

i installed windows xp first on my 1tb hard drive on a partition that worked fine, then i installed vista 64bit on a second partition and that was fine i got the option to dual boot and everything was fine. Now i decided to get rid of the xp partition because i wasnt using it so i copied all the files i wanted from it and put it in my vista partition then i used geparted (3rd party partition tool) to format my xp partition.
I then restarted my pc and get a error please insert system disc, now i think the problem is because the xp was first to install that has all the boot records on it so when i formatte dthe partition i deleted the boot files etc etc. I used my vista recovery disc and used the command prompt to try and re write the mbr using bootrec.exe/fixmbr and /fixboot and a few pther option but nothing worked. I had a similar problem a while ago i wrote a simialr command using the recover console to re write the whole mbr but cant remember what it was.Now i have reinstalled vista on the xp partition and can get access to my other vista partition but really want to make the other partition bootable again..........

Doing some partition work a few days ago, and somehow lost the boot for my main system. D was my main system, as you can see it holds a lot of applications and information, "C" is a fresh install. Question is can I get "D" to reboot, it doesn't show in msconfig/boot. I know I can transfer bit by bit, but its a long winded job, I feel there must be a way to repair reboot. Tried the system disc Repair mode, only shows system on "C". 2 hard discs, "C" and "F" on one drive "D"on the other.

When I first bought my computer with Vista I have some really bad issues with the Norton and Mcaffe antivirus. I then downloaded Trend Micro. Between these three programs I ended up having some drivers removed etc.(that's been corrected). It was a huge mess and between customer support and tech. help from Trend Micro and e-machine I ended up removing programs that I was told were incompatable and needed to. They also had me doing so many system restores I lost track of where I had originally started. I do know for sure that I removed about 5 programs that were incompatible with Vista and AVG free edition was one of them. I am now using Windows Live OneCare anti virus and it has been doing well but recently I received an update and now I am getting an error that Widows Live OneCare is incapatiable with the AVG Free Edition that was once on my computer but was removed before one of system restores.
The AVG shows up in my list of programs in the 'add and remove programs' in the control panel and can be seen listed in my program files but if I try to remove it ( and I have tried many times) an error occurs because it was removed a long time ago. I have several programs that are like this but don't know how to keep them from showing up in my add/remove or in my program files. I tried contacting the support and help people that I bought the computer from ( e-machine) and also contacted support from Trend Micro as it was mostly their program that messed me up to start with, but both help and support personnel only made things worse.
I finally had to stop asking them for help as the advise they were giving me was totally insane. I don't even think there was a human being answering my emails from the type of answers I was getting back.Is it possible to get these programs from showing up and totally removed from my computer? I know the AVG can't be conflicting with my Windows Live OneCare because it was removed by going to the Add/remove and removing it but I don't like looking down and seeing that my anti-virus keeps showing it is at risk. I am not that experienced with computers but I think I could follow directions if someone had some " not to awfully technical advice" :o)

I turned off System Restore ,then thought seeing as I have the HDD space I may as well use it.I switched System Restore back on and thought no more about it. Now I notice there are no restore points. It should set a restore point at boot up and before installing software? It does neither and I can't find an option to turn it on.

Now whenever i start it, it comes to a black screen and a minute later a cursor pops up. Safe mode does not work.I have tried the recovery disk, but to no avail.I know im doing right because i purchased some Boots Disks off ebay and they come right up (PC wizard; Pc doctor). So i bought Windows Vista Ultimate and tried to install and i cant get to install thru boot.I ither need to know how to install windows thru boot, but id much rather just fix current windows.

Sometimes, after installing MS updates or other apps, I lose my sound. The only way I get it back is to use System Restore to a point where the sound worked. However, then I don't have the updates or apps. This tells me that it's a software problem with Vista - not a hardware problem. Now, I am about 11 MS updates behind - and no sound. Also, the System Restore doesn't work anymore (I no longer have a Restore point where the sound worked). I've Googled and have found that many people have similar problems with their HP laptops. I am using Vista, SP-2. I am now going to ionstall the updates since I can't go back to get the sound. I've checked in Device Manager (no problem) and made sure I'm using the most recent signed driver. I can't find any text indication that I have a problem but when I go to Playback Options and try the sound Test, I get a message which says the sound didn't play. Hope I included all the relevant information. If not, please tell me. I've tried everything I know of. I have a full backup of my hard drive
