Product ID And Registration For Windows XP

Mar 26, 2008

I apologize if this issue has already been addressed elsewhere. I have a problem though. I have a computer that was custom built about 6 years ago and was installed with Windows XP Professional edition. I decided last night that it was time to reformat the hard drive on the computer and take it back to normal. I went to reinstall XP using the original disk that came with the computer. Unfortunately, I failed to think ahead and it got to the screen where I have to input the Product ID code that was originally located on the Disk sleeve, which of course I no longer have. I've read several suggestions online about accessing the code through the computer, but they all sound really complicated and I can't get into the computer anyway because of the midinstallation stalling. Shouldn't there be a record with Microsoft that I can access online from another computer from when I registered my copy years ago when I bought it? That would be so much simpler.

Installation Can Not Activated Key Product

Jun 7, 2009

My computer told said that Vista wasn't activated and that it had to be in 30 days. I purchased this computer with Vista installed, so I went to the side of my tower and checked the product key and tried activating it. For some reason it said it's already in use. So then I tried the Phone Activation and went through all the procedures and it's been activated. What I don't get is why wouldn't it let me activate online, but let me by phone? Was my key being used by another person or was it hacked? Luckily I didn't have to blow $150.00 for nothing.

OEM 32x To 64x Using An Activated Key?

Dec 6, 2008

Long story short, last year I built a new machine and bought a copy of vista home premium 32x (OEM / system builders). Now I want to upgrade to the 64x to take advantage of 8gb of ram - the system is 64x compatable. I've tried microsoft's alternative media request but apparently it will only accept a product key from a retail (not OEM) product key. So here's my question, assuming I can find away to get the 64x version of vista, can I use my already activated OEM 32x key to activate the 64x, in which case the 32x would no longer be in use? I've heard of people using the 32x key to activate but so far only in cases where the 32x hasn't already been activated. Basically I'm trying to avoid having to repurchase vista, just to use the 64 bit version.

Windows Vista AND Office 2000: "The Expected Version Of The Product Was Not Found On Your System."

Mar 27, 2008

I've heard conflicting reports as to whether Office 2000 will run successfully under Vista. In the hope that they are compatible, I installed Office 2000 and then installed (from the Microsoft site) updates SR-1a and SP-2. Then I downloaded SP3, but when I attempted to install it, I got the message "The expected version of the product was not found on your system." Is there some reason for this, or should I just try again? I looked for, but could not find, a newsgroup that deals with Office 2000 -- is there an alternative newsgroup that would be better for these questions?

Stop Those Annoying Registration Boxes That Won't Go Away

Feb 19, 2007

Have you recently installed a system utility or a productivity application such as Adobe Photoshop or Macromedia Dreamweaver and have been bombarded with registration messages that pop-up every time your start the application? Even when you check the box and tell the application never to remind you ever again?

This happens to me all the time and is very annoying.  The culprit of this problem is... you guessed it, UAC!

Your application keeps asking you to register because the registry key that it checks to see if you should still be harassed into registration is never getting set thanks to UAC. When I check the box or hit the Never remind me again button the registry write gets virtualized because the app tried to write to a part of the registry a standard user does not have access to.  This is a feature of UAC and it does a great job of redirecting the registry write so the application does not crash out. However, since the application is not aware of this virtualized write location it keeps checking the registry value of the key in the normal location.  Since the application has read only access to that location the key will keep getting virtualized every time you check the box and is why the registration boxes keep popping up.
How do you get out of this mess?  Real simple, just run the application as an Administrator ....

Can't Start Harvard Graphics Windows Registration

Mar 14, 2009

I have a program, Harvard Graphics for Windows, developed by Software Publishing Corp back in the mid-1990's. Some years ago, I installed it on one of my desktops (Windows 2000 Pro platform) without a problem. Recently, I copied the folders onto my desktop with Vista Home Premium . Appropriate drivers (just three) were copied into the Windows and System32 folders. However, at start-up I get to see the logo page, but then a Harvard Graphics error message appears, as follows: "Can't start Harvard Graphics because of a problem with the Windows registration database."I never ran into this when I moved to Windows 2000 from Windows 95. Does anyone know of a way around this? I have many charts that have been developed with this software, and I would like to continue to be able to access the software.

when i look at the bcdedit in the repair of vista, i see that the device partition and osdevice partition exchanged. the vista partition is now 7 and the opposite. i fixed it but the vista is still not activated. i've tried many vista activators..

Turn Activated Back Into 30-days Trial Should Not Run

Mar 23, 2008

I want to give a clone of my system (Ultimate) to colleagues with very similar hardware. If they get convinced, they would buy license keys of their own. As long as they test it, they should not run it with my license, but as a 30 days trial. Of course, my Vista is already activated. So, how can I turn its image back into an unactivatedtrial? (A clean install is no option for my colleagues, since I installed applications, drivers, tweaks and hacks, which only make the value of this particular installation.).

Product Key Cannot Be Validated

I had bought an HP 2133 when I was in Bahrain. When I first started up the computer, Vista Business started installing, probably from the Recovery partition. Anyway, I am in Turkey now and I upgraded mh harddisk and wanted to install Vista Business on the new harddisk. Underneath my computer there is an original Microsoft sticker for the product Key. During the Vista installation I typed this key but received an error message that the key cannot be validated. The key starts with J4CQ3- What might be the reason? What is the solution? I want to use my original Vista Product Key.
