Ask For Registration

May 27, 2007

Even though I've tried all three options: Register. Tell me later. Never register. It won't stop popping up. I've registered vista, yet the thing keeps popping up asking me to register... can I turn it off or get rid of it?

Product ID And Registration For Windows XP

Mar 26, 2008

I apologize if this issue has already been addressed elsewhere. I have a problem though. I have a computer that was custom built about 6 years ago and was installed with Windows XP Professional edition. I decided last night that it was time to reformat the hard drive on the computer and take it back to normal. I went to reinstall XP using the original disk that came with the computer. Unfortunately, I failed to think ahead and it got to the screen where I have to input the Product ID code that was originally located on the Disk sleeve, which of course I no longer have. I've read several suggestions online about accessing the code through the computer, but they all sound really complicated and I can't get into the computer anyway because of the midinstallation stalling. Shouldn't there be a record with Microsoft that I can access online from another computer from when I registered my copy years ago when I bought it? That would be so much simpler.

Stop Those Annoying Registration Boxes That Won't Go Away

Feb 19, 2007

Have you recently installed a system utility or a productivity application such as Adobe Photoshop or Macromedia Dreamweaver and have been bombarded with registration messages that pop-up every time your start the application? Even when you check the box and tell the application never to remind you ever again?

This happens to me all the time and is very annoying.  The culprit of this problem is... you guessed it, UAC!

Your application keeps asking you to register because the registry key that it checks to see if you should still be harassed into registration is never getting set thanks to UAC. When I check the box or hit the Never remind me again button the registry write gets virtualized because the app tried to write to a part of the registry a standard user does not have access to.  This is a feature of UAC and it does a great job of redirecting the registry write so the application does not crash out. However, since the application is not aware of this virtualized write location it keeps checking the registry value of the key in the normal location.  Since the application has read only access to that location the key will keep getting virtualized every time you check the box and is why the registration boxes keep popping up.
How do you get out of this mess?  Real simple, just run the application as an Administrator ....

Can't Start Harvard Graphics Windows Registration

Mar 14, 2009

I have a program, Harvard Graphics for Windows, developed by Software Publishing Corp back in the mid-1990's. Some years ago, I installed it on one of my desktops (Windows 2000 Pro platform) without a problem. Recently, I copied the folders onto my desktop with Vista Home Premium . Appropriate drivers (just three) were copied into the Windows and System32 folders. However, at start-up I get to see the logo page, but then a Harvard Graphics error message appears, as follows: "Can't start Harvard Graphics because of a problem with the Windows registration database."I never ran into this when I moved to Windows 2000 from Windows 95. Does anyone know of a way around this? I have many charts that have been developed with this software, and I would like to continue to be able to access the software.
