I have checked the other threads and have done the regedit but nothing has changed. I still have major distortion and pixilation in many of my images. I use this program daily and it is very hard to get through some of my images, as i read text on them. My computer is brand new and this is the first time i have used vista. I never had this issue with xp.
I can be playing a video - divx, mpg, VBO, anything - and all of a sudden it becomes distorted, as shown in the attatchment. It also distorts the mouse, which I can't screen cap. It doesn't take long after this happens for the machine to freeze up; it muts be reset via reset button, because using Shutdown or Restart from Windows goes to a plain blue screen.
At first I thought it was the codecs, so I removed the K-Lite codec pack and installed a Vista 64 codec pack. I've done a Memtest and its fine, and the video and CPU temps are all fine. It ONLY happens while playing videos, and then randomly. I can watch a 2 hour movie sometimes with no problem, other time it happens in 15 mins. Sometimes after a reset I can continue on without the issue, other times it crop up again in 5 mins. I can play games for hours without a single problem, and I'm talking intense games like Crysis, and Age of Conan.
i had a major issue w/ my sound, and finally just figured out what was causing the problem. i wanted to share this following information with any of you that might find themselves losing sleep, dumbfounded, and/or otherwise unable to find help elsewhere (i couldn't find anything on this particular issue!).
the issue: sound distortion, crackling, poping, and other abnormalities w/ sound.
let's break this down fast:
my system:
- windows vista premium home edition 64-bit (6.0, build 6001) service pack 1
- evga geforce gtx 260 over-clocked edition graphics card (drivers: 7.15.0011.8250)
- 640gb westren digital hard drive
- intel core i7 cpu 940mhz
- gigabyte ex58-ud4p (bios version: 6.00pg) motherboard
- soundblaster x-fi xtreme audio pci edition (driver version: 5.12.0001.2007)
background info:
i had a clean installation of windows vista (3rd installation after testing w/ another hard drive, and confirming my hardware wasn't causing my sound issues), all microsoft's recommended/critical updates installed, all motherboard drivers installed, and so forth. clean sparkling new system, sound was working great, and then as i was installing other programs .....the sound problem/issue returned (see above for details)
the resolution:
if you own a gigabyte motherboard (newer!), and have installed gigabyte's dynamic energy saver software, and have it enabled through bios + the program ....then this can cause issues w/ your sound!
immediately upon disabling the program's features (which i had previously manually enabled myself), all my sound distortion, crackling, and poping issues disappeared! gone! problem solved! once again all my music, videos, Internet.com videos, etc have returned to working/sounding flawless!
so, if you are out there, and facing similar issues with sound under the same circumstances/hardware i have, then check to see if that's what's causing it! i hope this helps others like myself!

After installing vista sp1 standalone service pack I've noticed that the "status bar" along the bottom of internet explorer and "windows mail" is hidden by the taskbar when these apps are maximised.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have had my vista home premium system for a little over a year with no real issues. The other day I did a system restart . The manufactures logo which normally comes up for about 20 seconds before moving on to the microsoft welcome screen stayed on for at least 5 minutes and then the screen went black for a couple of minutes. Then a short blinking cursor with a message that "Bios not installed!", then black for several minutes and then a message that the pc could not start and I was prompted to select an option for automatic repair. I did so and after about 10 minutes and an automated system restore , my system booted up and everything seemed to run ok. This morning I decided to try a restart again. While I did not get any messages to run any repairs, the system did stay at the manufactures logo for several minutes, then a black screen for several more minutes before finally getting to the microsoft welcome screen. Does anyione have any insight as to what might be happening and how to fix this?
I have windows vista home premium, service pack 2. Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600. 4GB Ram, 32 bit operating system.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just now decided to join but I've been looking around the forums for a while now as a guest. Recently I was referred to the website laptopvideo2go.com by these forums. I went there and because I had the old factory installed version 98.15 driver for my NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150, I decided to download one of the newer ones. By the way, I have a HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop. The driver that I chose was 7.15.0011.7770. It installed correctly and everything worked fine except for the fact that whenever I logged on, the screen would flash black and the graphics would become distorted and blurry and my desktop icons would look really magnified. But then, a few seconds later, the black screen would flash again and the graphics would go back to normal and everything would Today, however, the graphics did not revert back to normal. Everything stayed really big and fuzzy. I thought that since the driver that I downloaded from laptopvideo2go.com was not digitally signed, or whatever, that it was the problem. So, I went to the HP website and proceeded to download the original NVIDA update (98.15), that I had previously, for my driver.
It installed like normal until it got halfway in the installation loading bar. Then, my computer suddenly restarted itself and said that Windows did not start correctly and gave me the option to run some repair thing. I did, and it couldn't fix anything. So, I restarted again and got the same thing and went into safe mode and uninstalled my driver. Then, I updated the driver with the same 98.15 update and it worked and told me that I needed to restart. So I did and I got the "Windows did not start correctly" message again and I went into safe mode. The driver had not installed and everything was still big and fuzzy. However, the driver was still deleted. So, I restarted again, got the same message, and went into "Last known good configuration" mode, which I am in now. And, of course, the display is still really big and fuzzy. if you select the start normally option instead of the repair option, it will proceed to load with the Windows loading bar but will do that automatic restart thing before it gets to the Windows Vista logo every time. So, it's like a never-ending loop of restarts. I did some research online and I found out nothing, so I guess that my problem is unique. I'd really like to have my computer's original crystal-clear graphics back, but right now the priority is actually getting it to log on.
I installed the game earlier and then got a dll error when I tried to start the game so I did a quick search of the net and found a fix (install latest DirectX 9, it runs longside DirectX 9) The game then started, in the main menu I noticed some white flickering and when I started the actual game there was just major graphical corruption everywhere, it was unplayable. I am using the 174 nvidia drivers, here are my specs:-.... I just can't figure it out. Has anybody else got this game running fine on Vista Ultimate 64?.

The problem is , i erase something that made me preview images without opening.
I can't find a solution for this problem . I can't preview anything at all It's driving me around the bend.
I have an issue with Windows Photo Gallery and viewing black & white images. The problem I am having is the white parts of the image seems to have an almost light blueish tint, and the black parts look like they were done using dark blue ink.
The thumbnail for the image, as well as opening it in paint and opening it in slideshow displays the image correctly.
So far, I attempted to fix this problem myself by changing my ICC profile in the color management settings multiple times, even rebooting my pc for some of the changes, as well as uninstalling my monitor drivers, with unsuccessful results. I do not know if this is an issue with my OS, my monitor, or my video card.
I recently did a clean install of Vista 64bit and installed an ATI Radeon HD 4350 card at the same time. I'm running a Dell LCD monitor at 1600x1200, its native resolution. I have checked the device manager and there are no warnings associated with the card and I have checked to be sure that I have the latest driver. Until the Vista install, I was using Windows XP Pro with no distortion. I had a gForce graphics card which was not supported in Vista. I'm a photographer and don't play any computer games. The problem is that all the images are squished some vertically. Even round graphics like circles are somewhat distorted vertically.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows XP image and a Vista image. I have a 240GB drive I spit into 2 partitions. So I want to be able to load the respective images, make necessary boot adjustments and get them both to boot with a menu. Tried this: Downloaded Vista to first partition. Downloaded XP to the 2nd partition (both with images). Copied ntdetect, ntldr, boot.ini to the vista root.
Modified boot.ini to what I thought was correct. Used EasyBCD to modify the Vista Boot Loader. I did get the menu correctly on reboot but got a 2nd menu with 2 entries (default). Both just reboot the PC. What did I do wrong? I read somewhere that the the nstall path get's built into ntldr, but that doesen't sound right.
This issue has popped up a couple of times on the forum, but none of the solutions seem to work for me...
I'm running Vista Ultimate on a Dell XPS1330 notebook. I used the Vista back up computer tool to make images of the system c: drive and a second data partition. These were written to a USB hard drive as H:ComputerNameBackup 2009-05-22 162639etc. I have since formatted and re-partitioned the on board hard drive and expected to be able to restore my system and data onto the new partitions. I have tried to restore from a Vista Recovery CD and from within Vista, after re-installing, but it always fails to see the backup.
I have also tried copying the back up folder onto a ntfs partition, but it still wasn't recognised.
In Windows Mail, I have the setting to block images set to on, so, whenever a message in html format arrives, if it has images and the sender was not set as trustable yet, it will block the images.
But, funny side is that the feature seems not to work for the junk emails which makes no sense at all. All my junk emails, if in html format and with images, images will be shown despite the setting.
Am I missing some other setting or this is supposed to be the right although odd behaviour for Windows Mail?
id like to know how i may add my own thumbnail images to files / folders. example: i have a few folders with movies - i would like each file or folder to display an image of my choice of a relevant dvd cover or movie poster for easy navigating & aesthetics.

Now when I open multiple photos, they all open in separate windows. I really need them to open in the same window. View 5 Replies View RelatedI have ended up with damaged and/or destroyed JPEG images due to the thumbnail icon feature and/or Photo Gallery. The condition can be created as follows:
1. Browse to a folder containing JPEG images.
2. Do nothing... as Vista generates the thumbnails, it struggles, and only "half" of it is created (see below).
3. When the image is opened, it is corrupted.
My understanding is that generating a thumbnail should not alter the original image in anyway. However, a thumbnail that was generated fine once before for an image that was fine once before.... yields something like this, which was formerly a perfect picture of my wiener dog's nose Not sure why this is happening. I've run all sorts of hard drive diagnostics (even though this problem affects files I view on flash drives etc. also), virus/spyware scanners (everything clean), and yet nothing has been found to explain this phenomenon................
In Vista home premium, some emails have images not displayed. There is a small box with a red x.Right clicking,show picture, does not help. My pc skills are limited.

I am right clicking the desktop > Personalize > then on the left hand side clicking Change Desktop Icons. But when I browse to my image it does not allow it. I've checked the security settings, but they haven't changed. The only Windows security product I'm using is Defender's Firewall, whle virus and spyware checking is from AVG (Free). Using Windows Mail..I can receive links from others but when I *send* a LINK..(www.yahoo.com' //www.espn.com/), my receipients can not see the site. Neither can I for that matter when I go look at the email I just sent. I'm perplexed by this as I have followed answers in the forumn and clicked default on windows mail and even went to security tab under windows mail and unchecked block images.
