Backing Up Images In Virtual PC 2007
Mar 23, 2008Is there a way to backup Virtual PC 2007 images. In VMWare, its easy enough to copy the image directory and restart on a new computer. Anyone have some simple pointers?

Virtual PC 2007 Windows ME - Place Virtual Disk
Jul 29, 2009Am I correct in assuming that, for Windows ME to run in a Virtual PC 2007 window, the Windows ME virtual disk must be located inside a disk partition that is FAT32? On a test run, I tried to install WinME on a virtual disk in a folder that was in my normal Vista partition (NTFS), and it didn't get far. I tried placing the WinME virtual disk inside an FAT32 partition, and although I didn't finish the installation process, I got that far, with the WinME instalation screen having popped up and ready for installation. One other thing: Is it possible to place the WinME virtual disk inside a logical FAT32 partition? Or must it be a primary partition?

Feb 8, 2008I will be installing Vista Busieness 64bit on a system with Vista Home Premium 32bit currently installed. I want to convert the current install into a virtual machine (using VMware converter) so I can fallback to that environment from time to time after I install Vista 64bit. Is there anything I should be aware of? I am not 100% clear if I am actually allowed to migrate this install into a VM with the current license agreement.

Mar 23, 2008I just installed SP1 from technet recently, and decided to try my hand at virtualization for the first time today. Once Virtual PC 2007 is installed, my system BSoDs during every boot. The only way to gain access to windows is safe mode, or using the last known good state.
After using last known good state, VPC 2007 is installed, but won't work (as the drivers/services have been removed during install). I've uninstalled the remainder of VPC 2007 and rebooted; no problems. Tried again to installed VPC, and after reboot it once again BSoDs endlessly. So it stems the error is recreatable (at least on my machine).

Virtual PC 2007, Network Connection In The VM
Jun 1, 2008I have a strange little quirk I ran into that maybe one of you may know something about with Virtual PC 2007 SP1. I have Vista 64 bit Ultimate w/SP1 installed as the host computer. If I use the 32 bit Vista Ultimate as a Virtual Machine (VM), I have no problems with the network connection or anything else in the VM. If I use the 32 bit Vista Home Premium as a VM, everything works fine except the network connection in the VM. The settings are the same on both.
I wanted to use Home Premium since it is the only one that I have a spare product key number for. Does anyone know of a reason why the network connection will not work with the Home Premium edition over the Ultimate with the exact same VM settings? I hope it's not simply because I have Ultimate installed as the host.

I am trying this first to see how it looks and feels before I have to blow away my existing OS system. The installation process tells me that the Upgrade Option is not available for me. Oct 29, 2008As you can see from my profile I have Vista Ultimate x64 but I can't install Virtual PC 2007. Basically I downloaded the installer (making sure it was the x64 version), ran it and it all went fine until suddenly the installation just rolled back and said that no modifications were made to the system. It doesn't give me an error message. I searched on the Internet but I can't seem to find the solution. And yes, I tried both the normal installer and the SP1 version.

Jul 17, 2009This update keeps installing over and over It has now installed successfully 7 times and is shown as successful in the Update History list - 7 times!
I suppose I could uninstall VirtualPC since I have not been using it lately.
I should mention that it does not show up in the Control Panel | Progarams and Features Installed Updates list, though.
One other thing: VirtualPC is not supposed to work on Vista, but it does. In fact my son does development using it daily.
Change To A More Robust Virtual Video Card In VirtualPC 2007?
Jul 4, 2008Is there a way to change to a more robust virtual video card in VirtualPC 2007? I would like to experiance the full functionality of Aero in Vista. I'm running Ultimate64 w/ Ultimate32 on the virtual PC. At a minimum I would like to have some control some of the settings the "card" would use and such. Or am I just dreaming? I've googled, and visited many forums but none of the posts seem to address this head on.

Jul 5, 2008I have the following issue and hope that somebody can give me a hint about what might be going on! My system has two raid 1 arrays - one is running on XP Professional SP3 the other one is running on Vista x64 Ultimate SP1. When I start my virtual machines (either from the Virtual PC console or when double-clicking the *.vmc files) than everything is working fine on XP and the virtual machines are booting and running as expected. However, on Vista the following is happening (and I hope somebody has an idea):
1. Starting the Virtual machines from the console leads to an immediate reboot of my host machine (I can't even see any boot screen of the virtual machine - it is like clicking start in the VPC console -- > reboot of host).

WPG Not Displaying B&W Images Correctly
Jul 26, 2009I have an issue with Windows Photo Gallery and viewing black & white images. The problem I am having is the white parts of the image seems to have an almost light blueish tint, and the black parts look like they were done using dark blue ink.
The thumbnail for the image, as well as opening it in paint and opening it in slideshow displays the image correctly.
So far, I attempted to fix this problem myself by changing my ICC profile in the color management settings multiple times, even rebooting my pc for some of the changes, as well as uninstalling my monitor drivers, with unsuccessful results. I do not know if this is an issue with my OS, my monitor, or my video card.
Images Are All Squished Vertically
Sep 1, 2009I recently did a clean install of Vista 64bit and installed an ATI Radeon HD 4350 card at the same time. I'm running a Dell LCD monitor at 1600x1200, its native resolution. I have checked the device manager and there are no warnings associated with the card and I have checked to be sure that I have the latest driver. Until the Vista install, I was using Windows XP Pro with no distortion. I had a gForce graphics card which was not supported in Vista. I'm a photographer and don't play any computer games. The problem is that all the images are squished some vertically. Even round graphics like circles are somewhat distorted vertically.

Mar 22, 2007I have a Windows XP image and a Vista image. I have a 240GB drive I spit into 2 partitions. So I want to be able to load the respective images, make necessary boot adjustments and get them both to boot with a menu. Tried this: Downloaded Vista to first partition. Downloaded XP to the 2nd partition (both with images). Copied ntdetect, ntldr, boot.ini to the vista root.
Modified boot.ini to what I thought was correct. Used EasyBCD to modify the Vista Boot Loader. I did get the menu correctly on reboot but got a 2nd menu with 2 entries (default). Both just reboot the PC. What did I do wrong? I read somewhere that the the nstall path get's built into ntldr, but that doesen't sound right.
Can't Recognise My System Backup Images
May 24, 2009This issue has popped up a couple of times on the forum, but none of the solutions seem to work for me...
I'm running Vista Ultimate on a Dell XPS1330 notebook. I used the Vista back up computer tool to make images of the system c: drive and a second data partition. These were written to a USB hard drive as H:ComputerNameBackup 2009-05-22 162639etc. I have since formatted and re-partitioned the on board hard drive and expected to be able to restore my system and data onto the new partitions. I have tried to restore from a Vista Recovery CD and from within Vista, after re-installing, but it always fails to see the backup.
I have also tried copying the back up folder onto a ntfs partition, but it still wasn't recognised.
Blocking Images From Junk Emails
Apr 6, 2008In Windows Mail, I have the setting to block images set to on, so, whenever a message in html format arrives, if it has images and the sender was not set as trustable yet, it will block the images.
But, funny side is that the feature seems not to work for the junk emails which makes no sense at all. All my junk emails, if in html format and with images, images will be shown despite the setting.
Am I missing some other setting or this is supposed to be the right although odd behaviour for Windows Mail?

Now when I open multiple photos, they all open in separate windows. I really need them to open in the same window. Mar 26, 2008I have ended up with damaged and/or destroyed JPEG images due to the thumbnail icon feature and/or Photo Gallery. The condition can be created as follows:
1. Browse to a folder containing JPEG images.
2. Do nothing... as Vista generates the thumbnails, it struggles, and only "half" of it is created (see below).
3. When the image is opened, it is corrupted.
My understanding is that generating a thumbnail should not alter the original image in anyway. However, a thumbnail that was generated fine once before for an image that was fine once before.... yields something like this, which was formerly a perfect picture of my wiener dog's nose Not sure why this is happening. I've run all sorts of hard drive diagnostics (even though this problem affects files I view on flash drives etc. also), virus/spyware scanners (everything clean), and yet nothing has been found to explain this phenomenon................
