As per an example I created a batch file with the following line: DIR %1 /O >LPT1: I placed the file in the SendTo folder but nothing happens when I right click a folder PrintDir.bat which is the name of the file.
View 7 RepliesAlthough I see the mapimail link in the SendTo folder, it no longer shows up when I right-click an item.
I created a guest account: in that account, it is still functioning.
I tried to copy the mapimail link of the guest account and paste it in the main account (just in case it was corrupted): nothing!
The possible cause being that I changed the default association of the .mapimail files from "unknown application" to Thunderbird, I tried to restore it to "unknown application", but nothing happened.
I tried some other solutions from other threads as well as from other sites, but I didn't get to a solution.
Vista Home Premium, SP1
In Windows Vista Ultimate SP1, every system drive (partition) is listed in my SendTo menu even though the C:Users\%USERNAME%AppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsSendTo folder only contains the following (defaults):Compressed (zipped) folder Desktop (create shortcut) Fax Recipient Mail Recipient I my case there are 14 drives including A;, C:, D:, etc. The SendTo menu is too busy.Is there any way to get rid of the list of drives in SendTo?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI know the title doesn't make sense, here goes. I have Vista Basic and I installed a program named "Sudoku 600" in "C:Program FilesSudoku 600". I let the program generate a puzzle and then save it as "Puzzle 01.sud" in the program's folder. When I look in the folder, the file is not there. I can use the "Command Prompt" and do a 'dir' and it is not there. I can hit "CTRL F" and search for it and it is not there.
When I ask the program to load the file it IS there and it loads fine (no, it isn't in a database or somewhere else - there are other "*.sud" files in the folder that were put there by the program installation and each puzzle is a stand-alone file). I can use a program called "Agent Ransack" to search for it and the file is there and I can click on it within "Agent Ransack" and it opens fine. I have the Sudoku program on a Windows XP machine and the files are saved individually and show up in the folder. Why are they hidden in Vista and not XP?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am using a Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop with Vista Home Premium SP2. I have a folder that contains corrupted files. I am not able to delete the files or the folder. I ran chkdsk, and this would not complete because of the corrupt files. I then ran chkdsk /f, and this did not correct the problem. I tried Unlocker, and this was not able to delete the files. I did a scan for viruses and spyware, and my laptop is clean. My laptop works well with no other problems. My only concern is that neither System Restore or chkdsk work. Whenever I try to run System Restore, I get the message that it is unable to perform the task because of corrupted files. Is there anything else I can try short of doing a complete reinstall? I do not care to do a reinstall since I have no other issues with my computer.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem getting a screensaver I made to run from the system32 folder. The screensaver is a .scr file, and it runs perfectly fine from any other folder when I double click it and what not. However, when I move it to my system32 folder and double click it, it just brings up a black screen.
The reason I have to have it in that folder is because I'm trying to use a sidebar gadget to display this screensaver on my desktop, and the gadget only accepts screensavers from the system32 folder.
Two machines on my network, Mine is Vista 64 and my wifes is Vista 32.
My wife machine has Network descovery on File sharing on (does NOT say a password is required) Public folder sharing on (anyone with network access can open, change
and create).
The public folder share property confirms "everyone" has access write delete access.and If I ask her machine to show me all shared folders - it shows the "public" one.
When look in network places on my machine - I see hers, but when I tray and access I am prompted for password. If I give her machines Admin password (it used to be my machine) I get in to see and access the public folder.
Why is the public folder on her machine not accessible without a password?
Sorry for such a noob question - but it does not seem sensible behaviour.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI performed a "search" for a portion of a name of an encryption program that we deleted from our computer because it didn't appear to be fully compatible with vista, even tho the creators said it was (they did admit tho that they didn't test it)...the "search" turned up 335 items, most of which were "image files". We cannot delete the thumbnails because it says the file or folder has been deleted. These items came up as search results in indexed locations. we tried to go to the location and delete that way with no luck.

When I restored my backup files to their original location my mail box, which I had relocated from its default location to "Documents", reinstalled to the user name of my original installation "xxx". I mainly have music on my hard drive, and now the folder looks like this:

Is there any way to format folder file display for a group of folders (or subfolders) in file manager? I need to be able to do this to display my contacts properly, for example. View 7 Replies View RelatedI am trying to help someone running Vista Home Premium setup his network to share files and folders with his XP Home laptop. Oddly enough, there are no share options AT ALL. No share buttons or no share options in the context menus -- NOTHING. We've named the network and simply went out to share a printer (which we have the option to share) but it turns itself off. Same in Network and Sharing Center. We turn the options ON and then turn themselves OFF. We've done all the rebooting, etc. and still no go. I have gone through all the disabling of the UAC and ownership and permissions, et. al. but, can't get anywhere without the SHARE OPTION being available. Is his install of Windows Vista Home Premium broken or needing to be reinstalled? Could that be the problem? Could it have been setup improperly? I have successfully done this before on my Vista Business computer and my XP Pro laptop and although i did have a few 'permission' problems, they were at least workable.

However, when creating a message from within Windows Live Mail, not all of the Contacts are shown there. I placed the Contacts folder on my desktop for easy access, and when I look there, the addresses that I am missing are shown. It's as if the Windows Live Mail software is using another Contacts folder. I checked the Options tab under Tools to see if the address source requires identification, but could not find such a reference.
