I have a corrupted System32 file on windows Vista. I tried to boot from the windows 7 disk and also from the windows XP disk to do a clean install. This doesn't work however, I set the boot in BIOS to cddrive so I don't see the problem. does someone know how I can instal windows 7 or windows XP on my corrupted Vista?
View 9 RepliesIf you use Vista's built-in partition tool, do you risk deleting files? I used Easeus partition manager with an XP system. When I tried to restart, windows gave me "system32 hal.dll is missing or corrupted". I re-installed XP but I want to create a new partition on my Vista system so I can use Window 7 beta. Does this happen much when creating new partitions? I have had good luck with Easeus with two other systems. Am I better off using Vista's tool? Is there a chance I will loose a system file?

I have windows vista home premiun SP1. By the way a virus altered HOSTS file and can not connect to internet with firefox, I added 127.0.0.1 to the file in order to make it work.

He isnt amazing with pc's so he gave it to me so I could have a go at gettin it back on track... so far nothin has changed same screen comes up sayin that windows cannot repair itself... says something about the file system32/drivers/kkmbyd.sys is corrupt. I tried to restore to an earlier point in time but it wont work cause it says that there are no earlier versions saved. On my laptop I triple boot: Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit, Windows XP Professional 32-bit and Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit. Recently, I had problems booting WIndows XP so I wanted to fix it by using VistaBootPRO but I ended by losing both WIndows Vista & XP. Now, only Ubuntu works so I can still access Vista & XP drives. On VistaBootPRO I installed Legancy Bootloader over Windows Vista Bootloader then I was not able to boot Vista. I got this error message:

I'm having a problem getting a screensaver I made to run from the system32 folder. The screensaver is a .scr file, and it runs perfectly fine from any other folder when I double click it and what not. However, when I move it to my system32 folder and double click it, it just brings up a black screen.
The reason I have to have it in that folder is because I'm trying to use a sidebar gadget to display this screensaver on my desktop, and the gadget only accepts screensavers from the system32 folder.
It looks like my Media PC restarted while Media Centre was still running and somehow it has corrupted a couple of DLL files.

I have tried running System File Checker, while confirmed that some files were corrupted, but it couldn't fix them. Eventually I worked out how to change the permissions on those files so that I can manually replace them, but can't find a fresh file to replace them with, either on the Vista DVD or on the Net.
I had tried to move a file from another folder to my desktop. File move was taking forever and I had cancelled out. But it created a file on my desktop which is corrupted and the original file is corrupted (neither will open). I cannot delete this file from my desktop or other location now and it has seemed to slow down my PC. When I try to delete, I get a popup box that says "Recycling 1 item... from Desktop, Discovered 0 items (0 bytes)" and it just stays in an neverending do loop. After looking on internet, I have seen that Vista has issues deleting or even moving files.

Pre-requisites:
1) Windows XP Pro (installed on Hard drive C)
2) Two hard drives (C and D)
Steps:
1) Bootup computer with Vistax64 DVD
2) Choose Install Now option
3) Select C Drive
4) Format C Drive
5) Complete installation on C Drive
6) Install drivers from Gigabyte CD for LAN, Sound, SATA drivers, etc
7) Attempt to access hard drive D
Can't access hard drive D, even though it was never touched by anyone. Everytime I double click I get the error message: "D: is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable." Note: The HDD is not dying, its brand new and was accessed literally an hour ago without any problems. All my important documents are in there, I need to recover them. I have an external HDD ready, but cannot access the drive!

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am new to windows Vista, but have allready looked around a good bit and am certainly not a newbie on a computer. I have encountered an installation problem that just baffles me and I can't find any information on it. I want to install the Live Essential package with the wlsetup-web.exe from the download page for windows live. That would be as simple as to run the installer and done. Only this one pops up a small window. I have installed a lot of other programs, so it is not with every installer. I have this only with this installer. Does anybody know what the installation executable is looking for. I would like to add that the full package download also shows the same behavior. I have two installations of Windows Vista Home Premium x64 and on the second machine I have no problem installing the live applications. The simple conclusion is that the concerning Vista installation is corrupted in some way.
View 4 Replies View RelatedVista has been corrupted. With previous versions of Windows it was an easy fix to just reinstall right on top of current installation - I called it an overlay. Any missing/corrupted .dll things were put right and I got to keep my data. Anyone know whether this will work with Vista? Also, this is a Gateway pc and they have some crazy partitions with a backup section that I think is just a space waster.

I managed to make a set of backup dvds through the HP backup system just before the computer completely died. Vista Home Premium does not recognize these backup dvds, even though it does show that there are files on each of the dvds. Is there any way to retrieve the information on them?

View 9 Replies View Relatedi have a dell xps m1530 with vista home premium 32 bit (SP1). i recently tried to update to SP2 and ran into problems multiple times. i have tried installing both from windows update and from a separate file downloaded from the internet, and both times the installation aborted itself, saying either "error code B7" or "the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable". i've tried both re-downloading the file and turning off my security software, but neither has had any effect. has anyone else had this problem/know what i should do? i'd really like to update to SP2.

WINDOWS MAIL HAS BEEN ABLE TO SUCCESSFULLY RECOVER FROM THIS CORRUPTION.(0x00000000) Then it proceeds to restore all my deleted emails from the past few day, (at least 100) and starts adding new folders and dates. When they are recovered, they're headers only, no content in them. I had the Confiker Virus about 6 weeks ago and this seemed to start around the same time. So I try using the windows vista recovery disc to repair windows but it does not show up in operating system list in the recovery disc so I click on the option that says to click if your operating system does not show up on the list and it brings me to this file explorer and requests a configuration file in order to view vista. So could you please tell me what configuration file is the one I need and where I could find it on my hard drive since windows is still intact on it, only the bootloader is gone.

I am not logged in as Administrator. I did turn off UAP.

The title on the window says "Please, locate the volume number 1" While the window is open, on the bottom right there is a "Backup Archives" button. If I click it, I get a list consisting of what appears to be Chinese characters. I do have my search set up to look in all folders.

For example, if I want to search my C drive for all PDF files or all photos, the search function won't work without entering text from a file name (which doesn't work, because all files of a particular type don't necessarily share letters or characteristics in their names). Has anyone else experienced this problem, or am I missing something?
