Bootloader: Windows Could Not Start Because The Following File Is Missing Or Corrupted

Dec 20, 2008

On my laptop I triple boot: Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit, Windows XP Professional 32-bit and Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit. Recently, I had problems booting WIndows XP so I wanted to fix it by using VistaBootPRO but I ended by losing both WIndows Vista & XP. Now, only Ubuntu works so I can still access Vista & XP drives. On VistaBootPRO I installed Legancy Bootloader over Windows Vista Bootloader then I was not able to boot Vista. I got this error message:

Code: Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupted: <WIndows root>system32 toskrnl.exe Please re-install a copy of the above file.

Windows Update Failure: The File Or Directory Is Corrupted And Unreadable

Jun 18, 2008

I am running Vista Home Premium 32 bit without service pack 1 and have been trying to download windows updates for about a month now. I get a Windows Update error message 8007000b. I ran the command prompt as administrator, typed in fsutil resource setautoreset true C:. And I get a message saying “The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable”

I have tried to download updates 1 at a time, turned off my anti virus And tried manual updates as well. My Error checking is not working “windows can’t check the disk while it’s in use” And schedule disk check does not work. The System File Checker tool gives the message “windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them”. The windows memory diagnostic tool runs, reboots and does not display any results

"Windows Failed To Load Because A File Is Missing Or Corrupt File: Netio.sys Status: 0xc0000221

Oct 15, 2009

when i turn on my computer, an error message comes saying "Windows failed to load because a file is missing or corrupt File: Netio.sys Status: 0xc0000221" This started when i was clearing my computer of useless programs, and after i deleted Realtime player or Quicktime player, (can't remember which) an error message jumped from the taskbar saying something about Network device driver. After that every time i start the computer, the "Windows failed to load" message pops up. The first half a year, it was solved by pressing enter, to "Choose an operating system to start: Windows Vista" and then to "Windows error recovery (start windows normally, safe mode etc)" and back to "Windows failed to start", repeating it 3-20 times. Then i had a familiar "Unexpected shutdown" during a game, and now, the "Enter spamming technique" doesn't work anymore. All i can access at the moment is Windows memory diagnostic tool, and Bios setup utility. Is there any way to fix this through the setup utility or some other manner?

System32 Hal.dll Is Missing Corrupted

Mar 7, 2009

If you use Vista's built-in partition tool, do you risk deleting files? I used Easeus partition manager with an XP system. When I tried to restart, windows gave me "system32 hal.dll is missing or corrupted". I re-installed XP but I want to create a new partition on my Vista system so I can use Window 7 beta. Does this happen much when creating new partitions? I have had good luck with Easeus with two other systems. Am I better off using Vista's tool? Is there a chance I will loose a system file?

Create File Desktip Is Corrupted Orginal File

Dec 22, 2009

I had tried to move a file from another folder to my desktop. File move was taking forever and I had cancelled out. But it created a file on my desktop which is corrupted and the original file is corrupted (neither will open). I cannot delete this file from my desktop or other location now and it has seemed to slow down my PC. When I try to delete, I get a popup box that says "Recycling 1 item... from Desktop, Discovered 0 items (0 bytes)" and it just stays in an neverending do loop. After looking on internet, I have seen that Vista has issues deleting or even moving files.

Vista Reinstall: Missing/corrupted

Apr 2, 2008

Vista has been corrupted. With previous versions of Windows it was an easy fix to just reinstall right on top of current installation - I called it an overlay. Any missing/corrupted .dll things were put right and I got to keep my data. Anyone know whether this will work with Vista? Also, this is a Gateway pc and they have some crazy partitions with a backup section that I think is just a space waster.

Windows Failed To Start: Bootmbr Missing

Jun 18, 2008

I boot up my computer today and up pops a message about my bootmbr being missing. I, figuring this was quite bad, stuck in the ol' vista installation disk to run a startup repair. It does its thing, says its successful and tells me to reboot. I do, and get a new message at startup, saying,"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause...
File: Windowssystem32
tkrnlpa.exe
Status: 0xc0000428
Info: Windows cannot verify the digital signature of this file"

So I figure I'm getting somewhere, load the disk repair, and I get "Startup repair could not repair the problem." along with other steps i should take to "send it to microsoft"() So now i run commands like chkdsk /p,bootmbr,bootfix (I've done this before). NONE of these do a darn thing to solve my problem. (Ive done the F8 thing with the load drivers w/o signatures; didnt work.) So, I figure i should take matters into my own hands. So i open up a CMD, and copy a ntkrnlpa.exe from my install disk and replace it with the one on my hard drive. Logical? I thought so. But same results. Except for one thing, when the repair thing runs again, the details say that the file "pshed.dll" is corrupt. I replace this one, doesnt work, and then says the ntoskrnl.exe is corrupt too.... I replace this one as well, but this one has remained corrupt. I sometimes get a new message when running the startup repair. System volume on disk is corrupt. But other times I get "Boot status indicates that the OS booted successfully." So Ive pretty much used all I can think of, short of booting BartPE and copying my important files and reinstalling. One more thing that happened. Last night (when everything was running smoothly) diskeeper did a boot time defrag. I think something went wrong and this is what is causing all this trouble.

Vista Corrupted Start In Safe Mode

Jul 21, 2009

I have Vista Home Premium 32bit. Vista became corrupted to the point where I was not even able to start in safe mode. I managed to make a set of backup dvds through the HP backup system just before the computer completely died. Vista Home Premium does not recognize these backup dvds, even though it does show that there are files on each of the dvds. Is there any way to retrieve the information on them?

Windows Failed To Start: ERROR "cannot Create A File When That File Already Exists" (0x800700b7)

Mar 23, 2008

My elderly Mother's Vista PC isn't working, and as she relies on this for shopping etc I need to get it working (I am several hundred miles from her). The PC tried to install the latest Vista updates (20/2/2008) but upon restart she gets the message "Windows failed to restart - a recent hardware/software change may be the cause - File windowssystem32winload.exe "The selected file could not be loaded". She doesn't have a start in "normal mode" option. I have walked her through trying system repair/restore using the Vista installation Cd, but after trying to restore she gets the message; "system restore failed due to an unspecified error; "cannot create a file when that file already exists" (0x800700b7) We have tried 3 different restore points with the same result.

Installing X64, File Directory Corrupted And Unreadable.

Jun 10, 2009

I did exactly the following steps to get this error:

Pre-requisites:
1) Windows XP Pro (installed on Hard drive C)
2) Two hard drives (C and D)

Steps:
1) Bootup computer with Vistax64 DVD
2) Choose Install Now option
3) Select C Drive
4) Format C Drive
5) Complete installation on C Drive
6) Install drivers from Gigabyte CD for LAN, Sound, SATA drivers, etc
7) Attempt to access hard drive D

Can't access hard drive D, even though it was never touched by anyone. Everytime I double click I get the error message: "D: is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable." Note: The HDD is not dying, its brand new and was accessed literally an hour ago without any problems. All my important documents are in there, I need to recover them. I have an external HDD ready, but cannot access the drive!

Windows Failed To Start: Boot Critical File

Feb 13, 2009

I lost power to my home and my battery backup gave out before I got home to safely shutdown (I don’t normally lose power long enough to wipe out my backup). When power came back on I rebooted Vista 32Bit and was able to login but there were errors (which I did not record). Vista informed me there were errors and suggested I reboot and run CHKDSK. I tried to run chkdsk next time windows load but after my bios loaded I had nothing but a Black screen. I waited for 8 hours and still black screen. So I booted from my Factory Dell CD and Vista was unable to repair automatically.

Boot critical file C:Windowssystem32driversWdf0100.sys is corrupt
Boot critical file C:WDFLDR.SYS is corrupt.

Grub (a Bootloader For Linux)

Sep 19, 2009

I installed linux ubuntu onto my new laptop which was originally rinning windows vista ultimat 64-bit, in order to dual boot them, I chose in the llinux install to install grub, a bootloader designed for linux. I decided I didn't want linux anymore and deleted it's partitions. This was stupid, I turned on my computer the next day and apparently the grub bootloader was dependant on files on the partition so, now it won't let me boot to just windows, and I can't just exit grub and get to the vista bootloader either; once grub opens, it says it's starting, then displays

Quote: ERROR 22 After that, I'm forced to shutdown. I've tried to use the startup repair feature in the vista os dvd, but it says nothing is wrong, since you can boot vista perfectly fine after you get past the grub bootloader, which I believe the startup check this feature performs begins after the grub thing comes up. I've tried doing things in bcdedit, but haven't found anything that has worked. I need a way to either uninstall the grub bootlaoder (yes, uninstall the bootloader, we can do this because the vista one is fully intact and would pop up after grub while I was still able to boot normally before I stupidly wiped the linux partitions) or I need a way to bypass the grub bootloader to get to the vista bootloader. Also, please no idiots telling me to change my BIOS boot device priority to boot from cd first, obviously I'm able to boot from my Vista os dvd in order to get to the recovery features, I want to boot from the hd not a cd.

Remove Entry On Bootloader From Old Dual Boot...

Sep 21, 2009

My little problem is that I used to have a Vista/XP dual boot since I didn't need XP anymore I just deleted the partition and then extended the original Vista partition. The thing is, the entry for Windows XP on the bootloader is still there and I want to remove it because I want to sell this PC and the person most likely to buy it is not very computer savvy and he might get scared when he sees a black and white screen asking him if he wants to start Vista or XP and then press enter! I don't know how to do this on Windows, I have done it on Linux and it's very easy but obviously in Windows is completely different.

Missing WMP And IE7 Icons In Start Menu

Oct 9, 2007

Recently i installed Vista x64 Ultimate and as i remember in startall programs there are two icons of internet explorer (32 and 64 bit) and WMP icon. Now that icons are gone. Is that because Opera is my default browser and Gom and winamp are default media players? Of course i think that this is not problem. I remeber that i deleted that icons from quick lunch but deleting them from quick lunch doesn't mean deleting tham from start menu, right? Wmp and IE can be started directly by typing wmplayer and iexplore in search but i want that icons back in startall programs!

Could Not Start Up Due To A Missing Or Corrupt Registry

Sep 23, 2009

I just recieved my new desktop from CyberPowerPC last Thursday. On Monday morning, Windows could not start up due to a missing or corrupt registry. However, Sunday night when I shut off the PC, it was still working perfectly fine. When I turn on the PC, this is the screen I get: The only options given to me afterwards are 3 safe modes, attempt to reboot with the last known good setting, or start Windows normally. Choosing any of those options just gives me the missing/corrupt registry screen again and sends me back to those 5 choices, OR screen just goes black and nothing happens.

I've tried to use the CyberPowerPC Windows recovery disk that came with the PC, setting boot priority in the BIOS to CD/DVD drive to the top. Screen tells me to press any key to boot from CD, then this screen appears: Once it finishes loading, this appears: But afterwards, the screen becomes blank, and I see the monitor actually darkening. The numlock light on my keyboard darkens, meaning that turned off or something too. Here is what CyberPower has told me to do: "The error message you are seeing is a corrupted Windows system file that would require the operating system to be reinstalled. This can be done by booting directly from the Cyberpower Recovery disc. Make sure theoptical drive is set as the first boot device in the BIOS and tap the ENTER key as the computer starts to boot the computer off the disc rather than the hard drive." But of course, that isn't working...The PC is still new, so I have no problem with losing any data if it comes to that.

Icon Missing The Start Menu

I noticed last night that the icon was missing from the start menu for Spywareblaster. I'm not sure if it has been missing since I installed it, but I tried deleting the icon cache and uninstalling/reinstalling Spywareblaster, but the icon remains missing. If I right click on the shortcut within the menu and select properties-change icon, the correct icon is shown there. Not a major problem, just a bit annoying that the usual fixes don't seem to correct it.

Corrupted Windows Mail

Jun 12, 2009

I saw this problem addressed last year by Gary, but I didn't see it actually get corrected. My computer keeps giving me this prompt every few days,"THE MESSAGE STORE HAS BEEN CORRUPTED BY AN APPLICATION EXTERNAL TO WINDOWS MAIL. WINDOWS MAIL HAS BEEN ABLE TO SUCCESSFULLY RECOVER FROM THIS CORRUPTION.(0x00000000) Then it proceeds to restore all my deleted emails from the past few day, (at least 100) and starts adding new folders and dates. When they are recovered, they're headers only, no content in them. I had the Confiker Virus about 6 weeks ago and this seemed to start around the same time. This is really a pain having to delete all these messages...
