Wifi Did Not Connect Automatically
Jul 12, 2009My WiFi did not connect automatically to my home network which I had recently added as a favourite network. I typed in the password and it connected. I then went to my network list and noticed that the network had been removed unknowingly, after noticing this, I then tried adding the network manually and guess what, it showed me access denied. Why is this happening? I am the system administrator and it is still showing me access denied.

May 21, 2009I am running Vista x64 on a wireless network, WPA, TKIP. The network connects and works fine when you connect manually, but even if you check the "automatically connect" checkbox, after turning off the computer you have to connect manually again and the checkbox is unchecked. Had an XP machine with wireless before and this was never a problem. Have a Vista x32 connected with Ethernet cable that has no problem getting on network automatically either. Router is WRT54GS (I know it's old), but my computer is not totally incompatible if I get a good connection and good speed on the network. Seems that I am not the only one having this problem on this forum, but the other cases seemed somewhat different?

In XP I did this by creating a shortcut to the connection and placing it in the startup menu. However, Vista Home Premium apparently does not allow me to create a shortcut to an Internet connection. When I right-click on the connection, the menu offers only Disconnect, Status and Properties. The equivalent menu in XP included the option to Create Shortcut. how to launch a connection at startup in Vista? Or is this another of the simple conveniences that Microsoft has decided to make impossible?

Mar 23, 2008This should not be this difficult! However, 3 weeks later and I'm still not connecting. It seems I've tried about every suggestion I can find. I will attempt to recapitulate in brief but I'm sure I have forgotten things I've tried. I have 2 and printer to a router. One wireless one direct. Another wireless xp occasionally. Works great no problem. I am trying to get just one to connect to the Vista. The Vista has been tried both wireless and cable to router.
Installed the XP responder patch. Created users with identical names and passwords. Configured NetBios on Vista. Turned off and on TCP layer 6. Re-setup networking, same workgroup. Enabled sharing, etc. Only windows firewall, tried both off and on. There is likely more but I have forgotten now. They are visible on each others full maps and they ping each other fine. On the XP when I select the Vista pc I get not accessible, no permission. On Vista I cannot see the XP except in full map view. Maybe it's something simple but I am stumped.
Connect Local Printer With USB Cable Can't Working
Jul 29, 2009Vista Home Premium SP1 - trying to connect Brother HL-2142 laser printer as a _local_ printer with USB cable connection. I have installed exactly as instructed in printer manual. When I go to print, file appears in print queue until it finally errors. When I look in Device Manager->Universal Serial Bus Controllers->USB Root Hub properties->Power tab, the description shows "Unknown USB Device". Not sure if this is what the problem is. If it is, why would the USB Device be unknown? Also in Device Manager->Other devices, I see the HL-2140 printer with a yellow key hole. Printer manual says using drivers and so on for HL-2140 is fine for the HL-2142. When I try to add the printer manually, I can't work out which is the USB port. Doesn't seem to be one. I've attached document with screen shot of existing ports to choose from....

This program has to do with the functionality of my wireless print server and it needs to run or the printer on my print server will not function. Aug 25, 2009I have 4 user identities on my computer. Three of them work no problem. When I go into my user id (which is also the admin ID) it automatically reboots the computer.
