After installing Windows Vista I get a single network adapter assigned two IP addresses which causes a conflict everytime I start up. I disable and enable the adapter and the problem goes away. Then I can connect to the internet.
View 4 RepliesI have a new computer with Vista Home Premium 64 and am having some teething problems which I cant seem to fix no matter how much I try and google for an answer. Firstly When the PC shipped to me the user account in vista was 'mycompany' I wanted it to be 'myname' so I went in to the control panel and changed it. I am having the same problem as described here: User folder name won't change.
I would rather not create an account and delete the old one (Im a relative newbie and scared something will go wrong) but if I leave it as it is: I can go to my files via the file tree on the left of the window when you open Computer in the vista start menu (the top of the window shows: Desktop/myname/myfiles), IF I go through to the same files by actually clicking on the big folder icons in the same window it still shows the same files as C:/mycompany/myfiles..............
I have a issue with my Linksys wireless USB adapter. I am trying to use it with Vista Home Premium. After installing software... I plug the adapter in (like directions say) and windows update goes to work. It updates the driver, installs correctly, I then connect to my home network and all is good. My prob is for some reason I lose internet and the USB adapter itself. One time I switched users and lost all. I have tried uninstalling adapter and tried reinstalling by pointing to my D drive (install CD) in hopes of using the driver that's on the installation CD. as soon as it saw everything.. windows update once again gave me the same buggy driver. I have tried to install with UAC disabled... no luck... the Linksys website/support for drivers has the same updated driver. I tried to use an older one but Windows keeps forcing this updated one down my
throat.
Anytime I do any major hardware upgrade on my computer, I reinstall Vista so I don't have conflicting drivers causing problems. I've had to do that 3 times in the past 7 months or so. (Been rigorously upgrading my computer, lol) This past time when I installed a new motherboard, it wouldn't let me activate over the internet. I had to go thru the task of calling MS for activation. Now is this going to be a problem for me down the road some. Are they going to say,"Nope we're not activating your product because we suspect you're installing vista on multiple computers" Which is completely untrue. I know I'm going to reinstall again at least once by the end of the year when I get my i7 processor, new mobo and ram. I really don't want to spend another 300 dollars on Vista Ultimate because MS won't activate my current copy of it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI got a Nvidia 8400GS When i got the PC but brought a Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 / 1GB / PCI Express 2.0 / Graphics Card. My brother took out the Nvid card and then formated the PC to make sure that all drivers where uninstalled then put the ATI card in. In divice manager under dispaly adapters there is standard VGA Graphics Adapter and further down the page there is "Other Divices" with Video controller. When it installs these some times the standard VGA Graphics Adapter fail but the video controller succeed but with error. saying. "Incompatable display Adapter has been disabled. At least one display adapter on the system has been disabled because its not compatible with the driver for the VGA adapter". lso i carnt change the resolution above 1024X768. Also my Graphic card is a Sapphier brand but in the windows update its looking for ATI Technologies Inc. - Display - ASUS EAH3870X2 Series

Vista Home Premium SP1. Is it possible to use more than one device in a single USB port? The reason I ask is that I have five USB ports, four at the back and one at the front. As the one at the front is more accessible, I use this for a Joystick I occasionally use. Can I also use this same port for another device, in this case an MP3 player, not at same time?

I was wondering if it's possible to put in the remaining good sticks back in. 12gb (x3) in total , I'm guessing my mboard would drop the speed to single speed ram instead of dual speed ram....Ram capacity is more import than Ram speed as my images are hitting the Photoshop scratch which is bottlenecking my system.

View 8 Replies View RelatedWe are all familliar with "Explore" and the Tree structure on the left side, vs "Open", which opens a folder in a single window. Normally, in Explore, as you click on the folders you travel thru the tree and can pretty quickly navigate thru the system, whereas with Open, you can get there, but it isn't quite as easy if you take a wrong turn to back out & recover. Explore is a good name for that option, as that's what it's best for. It also means you don't have to have two windows open to move files, as you can drag to any folder in the nav pane with relative ease. With Open you're better off with multiple open windows for those file relocation tricks..................

Stuff i found out:
Doesnt happen when i start the computer (and while startup programs are loading)
Doesnt happen in Safe Mode
Doesnt happen always... but happens more than 95% times....
I am receiving regular blue screens during certain games like cod 6 single player. It says the causes are due to the graphical driver being caught into an infinite loop or something like that,

1. Save a single page of a multipage fax as an image (.png, gif, tif, jpg whatever)? Easy to save as a multipage .tif, but most sw opens only the first page. I regularly need to save the 3rd page (which is an invoice) of a 3 page fax; ie. I want an image of just the invoice (pref .png or gif). Was easy to do in XP.
2. Change the fax resolution (eg. faxing a Word doc - mainly text). Seem to have no option to select the fax resolution & quality seems worse than XP (I used 200x200).
3. I cannot get Outlook contacts to show up in the Fax & Scan utility. Just Windows Contacts (which I do not use).
I do not like XP. With a passion. It blows, along with all the people clinging to it's rotting carcass. May they all die horrid putrid rotting deaths. Okay not really but you get that I don't care much for XP, right?. I've always used linux as long as I remember too (****e I've used everything over the years - Atari, Amiga, Commodore..), and I actually abandoned XP for Ubuntu, save for playing games. I love Ubuntu! But, I must say using Vista 64 now for about a month I actually *like it*. There are a bit of things Mac OS could stea.. err borrow. Like Readyboost. I found a 2 pack of PNY 4 gig drives on sale for $25 at staples a few weeks ago, so I snagged them to use for readyboost. It's fantastic, Firefox is loaded and displaying the home page before I even release the damn mouse button. ..................
