Double Clicks Cd Drive On Explorer Error Message

Feb 15, 2010

When she double clicks the CD/DVD drive on the Explorer an error message appears: I noticed that additional to the default options on the context menu, that is right click the CD/DVD drive there is an extra one that says:Install or run a program It doesn't matter the type of media present in the drive, it will always appear whether I double left-click or Enter-key on it. Still, if she right click's the drive and select Open or Explore or Play, everything will be fine, but I looked over the web trying to remove context menu options for hardware drives but couldn't find a clue.

I tried changing all the default actions for the drive to ask what to do, nothing changed. That extra option is default forever. Also checked this article about Autoplay Handlers And looked on the registry for some explicit Key that says "Install or run a program" and that may be the problem, but in this case nothing similar showed up. Is not a big deal so far, but IT IS ANNOYING! and I really would like to get rid of that option.

I have an old Logitech but fully functional mouse (cordless optical).

When I ran Vista x86 Ultimate, I installed a small program that allowed me to double-click with middle mouse button. Now, with Vista x64 Ultimate, it doesn't work anymore.

Do someone know another small program to allow me that?

Microsoft Debuts Quick Fix Clicks

Feb 6, 2009

Common Windows problems could soon be solved by clicking a "Fix It" button. Microsoft has started putting the button on its web-based support pages that detail the most common problems hitting PC and Windows users. Clicking the button kicks off a download that, once run, carries out the series of steps needed to fix a specific problem or remove a bug. Microsoft also has plans to extend the click-to-fix system to help users recover from a crash.

The "Fix It" button first started to appear on Microsoft's support pages in late 2008. Now it appears on more than 100 separate entries, Lori Brownell, Microsoft's general manager of product quality and support told tech news website Cnet. Microsoft has kicked off a project to trawl through the thousands of pages in its support system to find problems that can be fixed by the quick fix tool.........

Double Emails Received

Apr 17, 2009

I am running Windows Mail, on Vista. I have Charter Internet as the provider. I have two different email accounts. I have no rules set...never had. I have had these accounts for 5 years. I bought this computer 2 years ago. No changes have been made and all the sudden I am receiving each email 2x's in the inbox and junk mail folders. It is not just from a few people, and not them sending twice. IT is from EVERYONE for the last few weeks. I have 2 emails accounts. When I go to email accounts under tools it shows only 2 accounts. _They_are_not_listed_twice...._ I have Norton Virus protection always had. Nothing has been changed.

Single User Mode

Using Windows Vista, how do I remote desktop to a Windows Server 2008
computer running terminal services in single user mode?

(I know how to remote desktop to my Windows Server 2008 computer running
terminal services. I don't know about the single user mode).

Apparently, I'm not in single user mode, because the remote desktop shows
the Vista theme, but not the full Aero experience.

Possible To Use More Than One Device In A Single USB Port?

Mar 4, 2009

Vista Home Premium SP1. Is it possible to use more than one device in a single USB port? The reason I ask is that I have five USB ports, four at the back and one at the front. As the one at the front is more accessible, I use this for a Joystick I occasionally use. Can I also use this same port for another device, in this case an MP3 player, not at same time?

Mixing Dual Ram With A Single Ram?

it may sound but 8gb ram (older modules ddr2 pc6400) isn't enough for my Photoshop work. I was wondering if it's possible to put in the remaining good sticks back in. 12gb (x3) in total , I'm guessing my mboard would drop the speed to single speed ram instead of dual speed ram....Ram capacity is more import than Ram speed as my images are hitting the Photoshop scratch which is bottlenecking my system.

Cant Open Doc Files By Double Click

Sep 27, 2009

I've got a Vista Home Premium system with Office 2007. I can't open Word *.doc files by double-clicking on them, either on the desktop or when they are attachments in emails (the most common way I get them.) All I get is an error saying the file I'm trying to open is "not a valid Win32 application." When I right-click the .doc file icon and go to "Open With" there is an option that reads "Microsoft Office 2007 component" and it has the Office 2007 Word icon next to it. I again get the "not a valid Win32 application." I can open one of these documents when I have Word already running and just Open File, but its just annoying and time consuming over and over again.

Open .mdi File By Double Clicking

May 16, 2010

Microsoft Office Document Imaging is running perfectly with one exception! I cannot open .mdi files by double clicking them. Although if I open the Office Tool first, then I can quite happily do a File Open sequence and use the .mdi file normally. The .mdi file extension refuses to allow itself to be associated with mspview.exe (the correct executable file) even when I try to do it via Default Progams using the built-in administrator account. No helpful error message just no response (I AM able to associate .mdi with other (incorrect) exe files so it seems to be mspview.exe that Vista has taken a dislike to for some reason. It was working ok until I uninstalled MS Office 2003.

I DID have both Office 2003 & 2007 installed but the older version was redundant. I see no reason why Vista should block this file association unless I have a Registry issue potentially? (And yes I have done several restarts) I can of course do a System Restore (hopefully) but I wondered if anyone had any ideas why I'm having problems? Alternatively, I can re-install Office 2007 completely but that seems to be a bit of a sledgehammer approach.

Opens A Folder In A Single Window?

Jul 24, 2009

We are all familliar with "Explore" and the Tree structure on the left side, vs "Open", which opens a folder in a single window. Normally, in Explore, as you click on the folders you travel thru the tree and can pretty quickly navigate thru the system, whereas with Open, you can get there, but it isn't quite as easy if you take a wrong turn to back out & recover. Explore is a good name for that option, as that's what it's best for. It also means you don't have to have two windows open to move files, as you can drag to any folder in the nav pane with relative ease. With Open you're better off with multiple open windows for those file relocation tricks..................

Double-click Hanky-panky On Desktop.

Mar 4, 2010

The subject says "on desktop" only because I haven't looked for signs of this problem elsewhere yet. The problem seems to manifest itself in different ways. I'll describe the most obvious way, and if there's no response, I'll try to describe other symptoms as best I can; although the more I experiment, the more it's starting to look as though I'm zeroing in on something -- I know not what.

After a Restart, a single-click on one of my desktop icons will highlight that icon, but it will also highlight the bottom-rightmost (BR) icon. This was discovered because the typical double-click was causing execution of the BR icon, and not the selected one. If I moved the BR icon up higher on the desktop and tried again, the new BR icon would behave the same way. This happens regardless of which icon I select. It seems that the problem goes away as soon as I successfully call a program and I leave the desktop. The problem returns after a restart.

Ability To Select Double Sided Printing

Mar 23, 2008

1. Do you have Print Preview that allows you to select which pages are printed and cancel the pages you do not want printed?
2. Do you have the ability to select double sided printing -- print all the odd pages and then print all the even pages?
3. Select the print quality, no matter what is selected in the Control Panel?

I have a Epson CX6400 and had the features listed above with Windows XP, but lost them with Vista, so I'm thinking about buying a new CX8400, because Epson is not going to write code for a new Print Preferences Window for my CX6400.

Save A Single Page Of A Multipage Fax As An Image

Mar 23, 2008

Vista Bus x64 / Office Pro 2007. how to do the following that were simple to do in XP fax:

1. Save a single page of a multipage fax as an image (.png, gif, tif, jpg whatever)? Easy to save as a multipage .tif, but most sw opens only the first page. I regularly need to save the 3rd page (which is an invoice) of a 3 page fax; ie. I want an image of just the invoice (pref .png or gif). Was easy to do in XP.

2. Change the fax resolution (eg. faxing a Word doc - mainly text). Seem to have no option to select the fax resolution & quality seems worse than XP (I used 200x200).

3. I cannot get Outlook contacts to show up in the Fax & Scan utility. Just Windows Contacts (which I do not use).
