Apr 17, 2009I am running Windows Mail, on Vista. I have Charter Internet as the provider. I have two different email accounts. I have no rules set...never had. I have had these accounts for 5 years. I bought this computer 2 years ago. No changes have been made and all the sudden I am receiving each email 2x's in the inbox and junk mail folders. It is not just from a few people, and not them sending twice. IT is from EVERYONE for the last few weeks. I have 2 emails accounts. When I go to email accounts under tools it shows only 2 accounts. _They_are_not_listed_twice...._ I have Norton Virus protection always had. Nothing has been changed.

Sep 27, 2009I've got a Vista Home Premium system with Office 2007. I can't open Word *.doc files by double-clicking on them, either on the desktop or when they are attachments in emails (the most common way I get them.) All I get is an error saying the file I'm trying to open is "not a valid Win32 application." When I right-click the .doc file icon and go to "Open With" there is an option that reads "Microsoft Office 2007 component" and it has the Office 2007 Word icon next to it. I again get the "not a valid Win32 application." I can open one of these documents when I have Word already running and just Open File, but its just annoying and time consuming over and over again.

Open .mdi File By Double Clicking
May 16, 2010Microsoft Office Document Imaging is running perfectly with one exception! I cannot open .mdi files by double clicking them. Although if I open the Office Tool first, then I can quite happily do a File Open sequence and use the .mdi file normally. The .mdi file extension refuses to allow itself to be associated with mspview.exe (the correct executable file) even when I try to do it via Default Progams using the built-in administrator account. No helpful error message just no response (I AM able to associate .mdi with other (incorrect) exe files so it seems to be mspview.exe that Vista has taken a dislike to for some reason. It was working ok until I uninstalled MS Office 2003.
I DID have both Office 2003 & 2007 installed but the older version was redundant. I see no reason why Vista should block this file association unless I have a Registry issue potentially? (And yes I have done several restarts) I can of course do a System Restore (hopefully) but I wondered if anyone had any ideas why I'm having problems? Alternatively, I can re-install Office 2007 completely but that seems to be a bit of a sledgehammer approach.

Mar 4, 2010The subject says "on desktop" only because I haven't looked for signs of this problem elsewhere yet. The problem seems to manifest itself in different ways. I'll describe the most obvious way, and if there's no response, I'll try to describe other symptoms as best I can; although the more I experiment, the more it's starting to look as though I'm zeroing in on something -- I know not what.
After a Restart, a single-click on one of my desktop icons will highlight that icon, but it will also highlight the bottom-rightmost (BR) icon. This was discovered because the typical double-click was causing execution of the BR icon, and not the selected one. If I moved the BR icon up higher on the desktop and tried again, the new BR icon would behave the same way. This happens regardless of which icon I select. It seems that the problem goes away as soon as I successfully call a program and I leave the desktop. The problem returns after a restart.
Folder Redirection In Via GPO Creates Double Folders

The folder do not combine and therefore there is a local documents folder and a redirected documents folder. I can not have this confusion for my users.

Double Clicks Cd Drive On Explorer Error Message
Feb 15, 2010When she double clicks the CD/DVD drive on the Explorer an error message appears: I noticed that additional to the default options on the context menu, that is right click the CD/DVD drive there is an extra one that says:Install or run a program It doesn't matter the type of media present in the drive, it will always appear whether I double left-click or Enter-key on it. Still, if she right click's the drive and select Open or Explore or Play, everything will be fine, but I looked over the web trying to remove context menu options for hardware drives but couldn't find a clue.
I tried changing all the default actions for the drive to ask what to do, nothing changed. That extra option is default forever. Also checked this article about Autoplay Handlers And looked on the registry for some explicit Key that says "Install or run a program" and that may be the problem, but in this case nothing similar showed up. Is not a big deal so far, but IT IS ANNOYING! and I really would like to get rid of that option.
Double Post When Overclocked, Change Any Settings From Stock To OC And Reboot
Jan 26, 2009When ever I change any settings from stock to OC and reboot or cold start my computer starts for about 3-4 seconds then reboots and most of the time posts on up and runs normal. Every now and then it will reboot a 3rd time but then goes back to stock settings and continues posting. I never get a bsod (bios F2), all power saving options disabled in bios, PCI-E at 100, memory timings loose. Once it posts it runs perfectly. I tried all kinds of different memory timings, goosed the cpu vid to 1.3, raised mch by .1 and fsb volts by .1 in an effort to find out why this posting phenomenon occurs. No matter what I have tried, when I OC this posting regimen occurs. I play Supreme Commander Forged alliance alot and no issues the game just rocks with all the goodies at max and 60fps with fraps. Any smoking grey matter out there with a clue?

Apr 26, 2008I got this problem after I installed Vista SP1. Inside Windows Explorer, when I double click a folder in the right pane, that folder is opened up as a new second window. No matter what I change in the settings window I cant get rid of this. If I instead right-click the folder and select "Browse", the folder contents is shown in the same window, but (as I said) double click the folder icon, a new window opens up. Seems to me that "double-clicking" a folder in the right pane triggers the "Open" action instead of "Browse" action.

May 6, 2009As of today I can no longer open attachments. I have already unchecked the box that won't allow certain attachments and that didn't work. If I right click on the mail and double click on the attachment I get the message, "command failed to execute". I used to be able to single left click on an attachment to open but that does nothing now, just sits there without even an error message. The only thing I've done differently is take an update that they said I needed in order to make my screen saver work. I did that days ago though, and that shouldn't have affected my mail.

this looks like the closest i've found to a forum w/ my prob.
essentially i backed up my HD on an external (western digital) using "second backup" as the backup software.
i noticed after backing up that all my folder icons (favorites, contacts, music, pictures, etc...) reverted to the generic yellow folder.
i was able to change one or two (and only those in the shortcuts in "favorite links" heading of a windows explorer window) by right click -> properties -> change icon but all the folders (in their actual location eg. c:users"username") remain the ugly yellow folder.
changing them one by one seems inefficient and if annoying if it were to occur again.
i've done the right-click on destop -> personalize -> change desktop icon -> restore default, no result (tho i didnt really expect one since the desktop icons arent really the issue)
i've rebuilt the icon cache, no luck.
i've re-written the desktop.ini for a couple of them, no result (tho i didnt really expect one)
system restore isn't an option, i dont have an old enough restore point (hense the need for backing up).
i'm wondering of a systemic way to essentially restore the default icons for all these folders (music, video, downloads, etc...) and their respective shortcuts.
