View 4 RepliesThere are discussions on this general subject but no aparent resolution. About two months ago I was sometimes prevented from opening photo attachments on some emails received from the same party and sometimes could open them. By this I mean, I would click on the paperclip where a list of photos would appear and I'd click on on photo and I'd get a message saying: "Windows cannot find file name (photo captions used by sender).jpg. Make sure your typed the name correctly and then try again." Well, of course I didn't type the file name; the sender did. I could click on the save attachments, and once saved to a folder I could open them from the folder. I forwarded the mail to others, and they report no problems in viewing the photos. I can also view the photos in the email itself, but it would be necessary to scan up and down and from left to right to view the whold photo and the caption would not appear.

I send out email to a number of lists and I use Bcc to hide all of the addresses. Trouble is, I can't find Bcc in Windows Mail. Is it there and if so where is it?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to VISTA and discovered I didn't like Windows Mail because of the way the autofill thing works for the addresses. So, someone in this group told me to upgrade to Windows Live Mail. I did that and so far have been very happy with it. Except that, I can't find new stationery for the program. I love using cloudeight stationery and it was working on the windows mail, but not on windows live mail. I emailed and asked them about this and the following is their reply to me. Is this true? Is Windows Live Mail really Hotmail? I look forward to hearing back from someone about this.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently discovered that the addresses in Windows Mail only auto completes 29 address. Dave suggested that I download Windows Live Mail the desktop version (not hotmail which apparently I am confusing it with). What is the website to download Windows Live Mail Desktop and is it free?? Please give me a link to the website, I cannot find it and I am confused. Right now I have Windows Mail Desktop that comes with Windows Vista. So I want the desktop windows live version
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy computer crashed and I currently have my hard drive set up externally to copy the information off of it onto another computer. I was using Windows Mail that came with Vista on my old computer when it crashed. I've been able to salvage my data, but would like to find my messages stored in my Inbox in Windows Mail. I cannot open the program (Windows Mail) currently, but will be able to open it when my new computer arrives. For now, I'm copying needed files off my hard drive and storing them temporarily on my children's computer. I do not know what folders from Windows Mail, or Windows perhaps, that I need to save in order to hopefully open my saved inbox messages.

Under earlier versions you had the option of keeping messages in the delete folder when existing. I can't find that option in the current version of Windows Mail.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have over 20 different Groups set up in my Address Book. In the good old Outlook Express Address Book, I could open a Contact and in the "Other" tab, I could see a list of all the Groups that the person belongs to. In Windows Mail Contacts. I successfully imported all my Contacts and Groups. But is there a way to find out which Groups a person belongs to? It's too time consuming to manually search through each of my 20 groups. The Help section claims that Windows Mail has all the features of Outlook Express. but the list of Groups a person belongs to is obviously
missing. show me that I can display a list of Groups for each person. I rely heavily on Groups. Just for example, if I have multiple entries for the same person (with different email addresses), I can tell which one is the most current by looking at which email address is part of a recently set up Group.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI understand the when and why. What I need to know is, will my mail be deleted out of my various folders? When I was useing Outlook Express, when the mail was compacted, it was also taken out of the Inbox and other folders, and I had to go find and restore it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I first start Vista mail a popup asks me if I want to find my connection on this phone number or should it dial another number. When I click on newsgroups I get the same message and have to answer and when I click back to my inbox I get the popup question again and I have to click it repeatedly. It asks if it should dial another connection that is no longer on the computer. How can I kill this damned message? I switched to Live Mail but it does the same thing with that so I'm back with mail.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have no idea what any of this is about, all very confusing and frustrating. Im trying to send an email to the school from a site i have to send it from. And it says to set it up but i dont know what the incoming e-mail server type is. And dont know what IMAP or POP3 is and what goes in there for the incoming mail server. As well as the outgoing e-mail server name (SMTP) I'm so clueless and usually confused when it comes to technical stuff on cumputers.

View 9 Replies View RelatedIn the process of trying to get current (I am within 2000 messages) with the messages in this group, I have seen many requests for help with problems about attachments. I am interested in helping diagnose the problem if I can.
I don't need help with a workaround; I don't mind saving attachments, which works for me. I am a developer with Visual Studio 2008 and such and I will attempt to diagnose the problem if possible.
I had assumed I don't have the problem but I am getting the following when I try to view a jpeg attachment:
"Windows cannot find 'Photo0192.jpg'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."
Is that the same problem most people are getting when they have a problem
with attachments?
The only thing I am aware of that might have caused a problem is that I installed IE 8 when it was still very buggy, and then I uninstalled it.
Later at some point Windows Update re-installed IE 8 (I assume that happened when IE 8 was released). I assume that since most people encountering the problem are non-technical, they would not have installed a beta version of IE 8.
Could the problem be a security problem? If so, could it might help to audit security failures? I am not sure of the details of doing that, but I am interested in trying things such as that if it helps diagnose the problem for Microsoft to know what to fix.
