Using vista home premium, I copied documents from an old user to a CD. I copied the CD to "documents" in the new user. I can access all of the documents in the "documents" file but I have to have the CD in inorder to access documents while I am using MS Works 9. Documents only show up in Works History when the CD is in the CD drive. How can I permanently move or copy documents to MS Works from "documents"?
i have recently tried to access Documents and Settings but am getting ACCESS DENIED for some reason yet i have done NOTHING to change my admin rights yet there seems to be an option for EVERYONE to access it but admin is not allowed to and it wont let me configure it that way. i have deleted EVERYONE from the properties and tried to revert to normal ADMIN user rights but it wont let me view docs and setts folder at all
I got Vista 64 a few weeks ago and all seemed OK and was (IthinK) But since yesterday I cannot open the file or folder rather, that contains my Documents. Location (C: drive) is not available. Access denied. I could before a few days ago always get to My Documents. What to do???? _ Information from ESET NOD32 Antivirus, version of virus signature database 4425 (20090914) _ The message was checked by ESET NOD32 Antivirus.
I have Ultimate SP1. I need to access the folder at C:Documents and SettingsmynameApplication DataMicrosoftTemplates but get an error message "access denied". I am the only user and have, as far as I know, full admin rights. How do i get acces to the folder.
Vista won't allow me access to my own documents folder outside of Word07, and won't allow me to save documents to any other folder. So I can't attach documets to emails, etc. or even open them with another program. What has happened? I don't recall having set any premissions that would exclude myself from my own user folders. I'm logged in as an administrator, by the way. Has some security update reset my permissions, and if so how do I get them back to something reasonable?
When trying to launch win fax & scan I get an error: "Windows Fax and Scan cannot run as it cannot access your documents folder ..."
The MyDocuments folder is in my F: drive partition. I'd like to keep it there since that where I store my data files for back-up, but I'm willing to create another Documents folder where fax & scan can access it.
I can't access any thing uder my user profile such as My Documents and My Pictures, it's a ADM profile with all rights.Do I need to access it with main PC Adm Profile and reset the rights?
When I try to access the My Documents or My Music folders in my user account folder, it says Access Denied. Also, when I tried to disable indexing for my hard drive, I was denied access as well. Do I need to be on the root admin account to have access to these things? How do I get rid of all these annoying restrictions so I can use them on my regular account? I have UAC disabled.
I can't access My Documents and Settings Folder in Windows 7 even though I'm the administrator. I want to rearrange and add some folders to the Start-All Programs. What am I not doing right?
Whenever i access my documents or pictures a message pops up saying system error! Attention, Dylan! Some dangerous trogan horses detected in your system. Windows Vista (TM) Home Premium files corrupted. This may lead to the destruction of important files in C:Windows. Download protection software now!

Yesterday my (Vista 32) system crashed so hard that it took some system files with it, necessitating a complete re-install with all the headaches and thoughtless wreckage it does to one's file system. I'm desperately in need of many of my old "My Documents" files, etc. and have searched around for them, to no avail. I've been trying to access the old Users/Account folder I used in my previous installation (where I presume most of these files are located). I need to grand admin permissions to do this, and I do, but then a new window opens up and it's literally nothing but a *black* (not blank) empty space. I get no further explanation or access.
a) Where are my old files? Have they been deleted?? b) How do I access this folder? I've seen in other forums things that tell me this users/account folder may just be a sort of 'pointer' used for legacy purposes. What's going on?
A Vista Business user cannot get access to his My Documents folder on the C: drive. Normally I encourage people to use the H: drive but in this case I need to allow that user access to C: Is this a Vista security feature for domain member systems? Can I get around it by giving the user access to his user directory in Documents & Settings? I tried to do this but changed rights in C:Users which seems to be a link to the other folder and so the rights didn't work. I'm fairly new to Vista; we only have one non-Admin using it, hence the simple question.
I looked but couldn't find this issue elsewhere. I noticed that when I opened my files, there were extra MY DOCUMENTS folders. Other people who used this computer apparently messed around and copied MY DOCUMENTS folders. I tried to remedy the mess, but did so when I was tired, and seem to have made matters worse. Now, when I go to the Start Menu> Documents the documents are not there. I am at a loss as to how to fix this.
I try to access folders under my name (set up as administrator), most of the time I get access denied. It is driving me nuts. I want to change the start menu and get rid of a bunch of garbage but I can't enter the folder to do so. When I use the start menu program, it only has a few basic folders. This happens frequently, even when trying to view pictures or video in the folder. What do I need to change to remove this very annoying problem?
I have my laptop connecting to a server under AD control. My laptop is not joined to AD by design. I set up some files using 'Sync' to have them available to me offline. My AD password has since changed and I cannot connect to the server to have access to other files set up for offline access. When I attempt to remap the drive, I get an error stating I am already connected using the credentials provided. This is not true, since I cannot access the server. What do I need to do to fix this problem?
I think I might have a good one for you.. I am working on an Acer 5610z Notebook for a friend of mine. He was setting the parental controls and managed to control his account which had admin access. the user listing has the account listing as an admin but he only has standard user access. His was the "only" admin account.. While he was doing this he managed to deny access to the boot drive. The drive reads as "Access Denied". The machine boots up and a person can play games etc.. but network access is restricted.
Our Vista laptops (& my Xbox) access our basic Windows Home Server system through a Netgear router. It's all fine, but I want to (easily & quickly!) restrict & control when some laptops can access the internet while allowing free access to the server. (For instance, so children's internet access can be monitored but they can always get to photos & backups, etc. on the server.)
I'm the user Jack with file structure looking like: C:/Users/Jack/ here several folders are listed including My Documents (Looks like shortcut) and Documents. Not sure why both appear but I can't get into My Documents but can get into Documents. Inside My Documents is My Music (looks like shortcut) but I can't get into that either. What am I missing here? I'm sensing Vista uses folders as "pointers" but I'm not sure thats a lot different than XP? Very confusing why with admin privileges I can't get into some folders.
I am having the hardest time trying to catagorize & rename my pictures. Everytime I go to a picture file in my document files, I highlight the pictures that I want to rename. Then when I click rename & type the name of the pics that I want labeled, it scrambles the pictures in a different order & the numbers of the pics are pic 1, pic 1, pic 2, pic 2, etc, etc.
I have a laptop running vista and all my documents and pictures and music folders are showing as empty.. I removed the hard disk connected it to a test bed and run treesize and try to explore "my documents" but telling access denied or showing it as empty.. I donot want to take the risk of doing a restore as there were important files on there..
I am going to try to run it on safe mode and see and also check the folders options as whether it is not on hidden files.
This is probably a waste of everyone's time - but is there any way to recover your documents from your hard drive if you installed (not upgraded) from XP to Vista? I've lost everything and I'm dying over here!
i discovered vista had somehow made TWO documents folders, one was the one i used all the time and had all my documents in, the other just had junk in it...so i deleted it, thinking since they had different contents they werent linked, well turns out they WERE linked.oh lovely.so now my documents folder is GONE all the contents were just erased and none are in my recycle bin.
i tried REcuva, some file recovery program and i found SOME of my old files but the majority are still missing. i also tried a system restore. it failed as well. i downloaded a ebook before i read somewhere NOT to download anything for it could overwrite where my files are/were. right now for some reason i have 4 documents folders. i didnt create any of them. they just keep appearing
I stupidly did not save my documents, emails and contacts prior to installing Vista OS. Instead of Upgrading, I installed the entire system!! Have I lost everything?! Is there any way any of my documents could be on the hard drive? I have tried doing that windows.old thing but when I type it into the "search", I get nothing.
The problem I am having is in the start menu the recent documents bit is not showing any more. I can enable it and it does show up, but when I reboot my computer it disappears again. I go and right click the orb and click properties and I see that the check box for "Store and display a list of recently opened files" is unchecked again. I have not tweaked my system and the only thing I have installed lately was Firefox 3 rc3. I have got IE7 as my default browser. I am at a loss. I know this is a small problem, but it was handy to have the list of recently opened files to hand.
I have just performed an upgrade from XP to Vista Ultimate. the upgrade ran very smoothly, but I was shocked to find that all of "my Documents" and my "Doumnets and settings" had been deleted, but strangely , my wifes user profile on the same machine was completly intacked. I have tried to use a data recover tool to recover my data which I can still see on the hard drive, but most of it has been over written by the upgrade.
I tried to move the "My Documents" folder in my Widows Vista Ultimate and clicked wrongly. After cacelling the move of files, something went wrong. I have made a folder named Docs to hold all my documents. But when I right click on the documents folder, which now is pointing at C:USERS, there is no location tab.
I have a Desktop with Windows Vista Ultimate and a Laptop With Windows Vista Home Premium. The Desktop has the printer connect via USB and the laptop is connect to network wireless. The laptop can access network shared files and also sees and installs printer. I then print a test page and it works great. However when I try to print any documents they fail to print. I tried intalling the printer on the laptop as a local printer then adding a local port and mapping it to the desktop \desktopprinter but get an access denied error.
I built a new computer and installed clean Vista Ultimate 64bit. I had backed up all my documents to an external drive. After installing Office 2007 on the newly rebuilt machine I opened the Documents folder and copied all of my documents back. However, now I have 2 Documents folders, one with only the Desktop.ini in it and the other with ANOTHER Documents folder with all of my documents (basically a DOCUMENTS folder under a top level DOCUMENTS folder). Why is this happening? How do I fix it so that I only have ONE Documents folder?
