I have Ultimate SP1. I need to access the folder at C:Documents and SettingsmynameApplication DataMicrosoftTemplates but get an error message "access denied". I am the only user and have, as far as I know, full admin rights. How do i get acces to the folder.

So I can't attach documets to emails, etc. or even open them with another program. What has happened? I don't recall having set any premissions that would exclude myself from my own user folders. I'm logged in as an administrator, by the way. Has some security update reset my permissions, and if so how do I get them back to something reasonable?

The MyDocuments folder is in my F: drive partition. I'd like to keep it there since that where I store my data files for back-up, but I'm willing to create another Documents folder where fax & scan can access it.
Yesterday my (Vista 32) system crashed so hard that it took some system files with it, necessitating a complete re-install with all the headaches and thoughtless wreckage it does to one's file system. I'm desperately in need of many of my old "My Documents" files, etc. and have searched around for them, to no avail. I've been trying to access the old Users/Account folder I used in my previous installation (where I presume most of these files are located). I need to grand admin permissions to do this, and I do, but then a new window opens up and it's literally nothing but a *black* (not blank) empty space. I get no further explanation or access.
a) Where are my old files? Have they been deleted?? b) How do I access this folder? I've seen in other forums things that tell me this users/account folder may just be a sort of 'pointer' used for legacy purposes. What's going on?
A Vista Business user cannot get access to his My Documents folder on the C: drive. Normally I encourage people to use the H: drive but in this case I need to allow that user access to C: Is this a Vista security feature for domain member systems? Can I get around it by giving the user access to his user directory in Documents & Settings? I tried to do this but changed rights in C:Users which seems to be a link to the other folder and so the rights didn't work. I'm fairly new to Vista; we only have one non-Admin using it, hence the simple question.

maddie is an admin account. when i create another user (which is also an admin) and go to maddie's folder, most of these folders don't even exist. except for My Documents. and
this other user CAN access maddie's 'My Documents'
I'm trying to look into my "Documents and Settings" subdirectory to find some configurtion files that Adobe apparently insists on storing there. Then I try to look there with the normal file Explorer I get an error message: "C:Documents and Settings is not accessible. Accessis denied" Now, I'm doing this from the main Admin control account. If the sys admin can't access the directory, who can? How do I get Vista to play nice?

View 7 Replies View RelatedVista 64-bit, New to vista (from xp). Been working with vista for about a week trying to get things going after transferring files from xp. Up until just moments ago, I could have sworn that documents & settings existed on the c root. Here's what happened. I needed to find some files and worked in Folder Options to unselect hide extensions and hide protected operating system files. I got an alert that this may cause a problem, but ignored it (as this operation was recommended by a trusted source). So, after do all this, I noted that D/S and several other folders were now shortcuts. When clicking on these short cuts, I got access denied. I then did a restore to an earlier date and when I went back to the c root, d/s and the other noted short cuts had disappeared. BTW, I ahve undone what I did in Folder Options, but to no avail. Also, I have seen post that say one doesn't need D/S. I find all this very confusing as I had these folders and now I don't.

I found the answer once before in one of the forums, but can't remember where it was. And why does this happen? Also, when I go to 'Help & support" in the Start button, it defaults to Lenovo (my hardware mfg) instead of Microsoft Windows.

View 9 Replies View Relatedhow i can get this darn EZStickyNotes folder to stop returning t oMyDocuments folder every month after i delete it!Also,i found last month an EZListings.BSA that may or may not be related in c:/administrator/appdata/local/temp. This is getting old and i want to know how to get rid of these items permanently. I understand from barman58 in a seperate thread from awhile back, EZStickyNotes folder appears out of nowhere in Documents folder! that the ezstickynotes folder has something to do with a shareware program he gave a link to. How it got there is a mystery to me since i didn't install it, but some program installed it,apparently,and didn't leave any way for me to uninstall it if i didn't want it. I searched my computer for the easy sticky note program, but it isn't on my computer. I always do a scan of my computer with avast,malwarebytes, superantispyware,and windows defender after finding the ezstickynotes folder for viruses, etc and it always comes up clean.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThe contents of My documents folder is displayed in my computer folder, some icons are double and a whole lot of other white icons "empy" files, see screenshot 1. Screenshot 2:
- Right clicking, double clicking on the white files does nothing
- Cannot select them and delete
- Opening a folder takes me to that folder (If i open "Pictures" it takes me to C:UsersNotandiPictures)
- Deleting a folder there deletes it from My Documents too
EDIT: These direcotries are also displayed in the SEND TO: menu, exactly the same as in my computer, but no the empty white files. See screenshot 2
every time I rename a folder, Vista changes the folder view settings in that folder back to the default for that specific folder. I have gone through the tutorials in this forum about making Vista always remember the current folder settings. That is not my issue. An example of what I mean: Let us say I have a folder named "Music" and the folder view settings are set to 'Music Details'. Fine. But let us now say that I also want to show the bit rates and/or the length of the songs. 'Music Details' does not have this by default, so I right-click and at the bar (tab? menu?) and choose to show them. So far so good, and my settings are always there. However, if I change the folder name to something else, the view settings revert back to the original 'Music Details'. Is there a way of stopping this from happening? I often change folder names and/or move them around, and it is annoying to always have to add/remove what I want from the view settings.

Using vista home premium, I copied documents from an old user to a CD. I copied the CD to "documents" in the new user. I can access all of the documents in the "documents" file but I have to have the CD in inorder to access documents while I am using MS Works 9. Documents only show up in Works History when the CD is in the CD drive. How can I permanently move or copy documents to MS Works from "documents"?

When I try to access the My Documents or My Music folders in my user account folder, it says Access Denied. Also, when I tried to disable indexing for my hard drive, I was denied access as well. I tried to move the "My Documents" folder in my Widows Vista Ultimate and clicked wrongly. After cacelling the move of files, something went wrong. I have made a folder named Docs to hold all my documents. But when I right click on the documents folder, which now is pointing at C:USERS, there is no location tab.

Whenever I try to open my documents folder through the start menu (or anywhere else for that matter) the window closes. Also, some links in the start menu seem to be broken. I can go to the documents folder through browsing c:/users/my name but not directly if you know what I mean. This is quite annoying since I can no longer use 'save' in most of the programs I use (photoshop, premiere). When I choose 'save' it is targeted towards going to the documents folder first but it fails and the window closes again.

As there was a update on my widows update i finished my work and set it to update itself and i moved on to hand written work. As i use my laptop every day at "school" i have nearly a whole year of work saved on my laptop for my A levels. I saved all my work in a folder in my documents which i find now to be gone. I have tried using tune up utiliys "undelete" and "disc explorer" to find it yet it not there. One of the updates was for my office 2007 "sevice pack 1".
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I used XP I kept the My Documents file on my D: drive. Apart from anything else this made backing-up a cinch. After upgrading to Vista, I played around and managed to get the D: drive to appear on my start menu. It also appears under my Username folder on the start menu. However, it is grey rather than green and in both places is is called DATA (D rather than documents (or possibly Documents).
My Music and Pictures folders are stored as sub-folders in this drive/folder in the right place, but the other default folders such as Links, Saved Games, Searches, Downloads and Favourites are not, for some reason they still sit on the C: drive. My Videos folder is on my E: drive where I would like to keep it.
Ideally I'd like all these folders to sit on D: with a green Documents folder and all the sub-folders (except Videos). I've seen plenty of online tips about moving folders, sometimes they involve tinkering with the registry, but not much about fixing wrongly configured folders. This isn't just petty nonsense, I really need everything in one place so I can organise simple and reliable back-ups
