File Synchronization: Access To Other Files Set Up For Offline Access
Jun 23, 2008
I have my laptop connecting to a server under AD control. My laptop is not joined to AD by design. I set up some files using 'Sync' to have them available to me offline. My AD password has since changed and I cannot connect to the server to have access to other files set up for offline access. When I attempt to remap the drive, I get an error stating I am already connected using the credentials provided. This is not true, since I cannot access the server. What do I need to do to fix this problem?

Once redirected folders using Folder Redirection for My Documents is setup, Users on Windows Vista SP1 get's access denied, to all 'Offline' content, and files created/modified can't be synced to the server, sync enter reports access denied. The file server is running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition R2 with Service Pack 2 installed. The share allow use of Offline Files, and share permissions are Everyone FC.I let Folder Redirection populate folders for each user in the root directory of the share. (Following Guidelines)This issue seems to be common, but there doesn't seem to be any solution to the issue.

I ran Spybot S&D, got rid of any viruses it got and Mallware Bytes, again, removed everything. Even ran McAfee and got rid of whatever. But each time i run the scan on Spybot S&D it finds site that redirect me. I press fix selected items but it responds by saying "cannot access hosts file. Access is denied" I tried to untick the "protect hosts file form hijackers" in IE tweaks but keeps getting checked. On top of that the Hosts file is missing.

I try to access folders under my name (set up as administrator), most of the time I get access denied. It is driving me nuts. I want to change the start menu and get rid of a bunch of garbage but I can't enter the folder to do so. When I use the start menu program, it only has a few basic folders. This happens frequently, even when trying to view pictures or video in the folder. What do I need to change to remove this very annoying problem?

I have used the Copy Good DVD Files To Replace Corrupt OS Files Published by uvbogden 08-22-2007 to access sfc /scannow corrupt files. Everything worked fine accept when I went to copy the corrupt file from the mounted oem disk to the windowsystem32 directory I get you need permission to continue.
I use windows explorer (admin permission) and cmd prompt (user permission), I tried to copy directly from the oem disk to the system directory. didn't work, copied the file to the desktop which worked fine, however when I copied it fromt the desktip to the system directory it didn't work. What is the permission required message I get related to. I thought running as Adm would allow me to do the task but not so. Anyone, I need some insight on how to proceed.

I just recently got a new computer installed with the Vista Home Premium x64 OS. After many failed attempts at transferring my old files i eventually ended up putting my old hard drive into my new computer, and attempted to drag and drop into a folder i created specifically for those files. Upon trying to do this, it transferred all of my program files, but when it gets to my actual documents, where i keep my most important files, it says i need administrative permission to do this.
Then, when i tried to access the files directly in my old hard drive, it said that i couldn't do that, and showed this: "You don't currently have permission to access this folder. Click continue to get access to this folder." "You have been denied permision to access this folder. To gain access to this folder you will need to use the security tab." and then when i use the security tab to transfer file permission to me, it still doesn't do anything.

For my first post I think this one will have you thinking. I have a Laptop running Vista & a PC running XP Media Centre Edition on a small network. The problem is : Both Laptop & pc can see each other in the network. From the pc I can access the shared files on the laptop, no problem. I cannot access any files on the pc when I select the pc in my network I get an error which says " Cannot access \computername. Check the spelling of the name, otherwise there may be a problem with your network. I have attempted pinging the pc from my laptop, but it keeps timing out I can ping my laptop from my pc. I opened a browser on my laptop and entered \ipaddress of the pc . I got an error. pc cannot be found. I did the same \ipaddress of the wireless router. I got an error. cannot be found. I did the same \ipaddress of the laptop. I was able to see all the files on my laptop. If you look at the image, this is my network. when I attempt to access the pc named DB that is when the problem arises.

I have a computer running vista premium and a computer running xp home. Vista is nfts file system and xp is fat32 file system. Both are connected to a linksys wired router, both are online. I went to set up files sharing and thought I did. When I check my view network in vista I can see the xp machine and and vista machine. I have no acces to the xp machine. Is this because the xp machine is fat32 file system and vista is nfts. I was just checking some other post on another forum and found that fat32 can read ntfs and vice versa.

I have twp PC's a Vista Ultimate with two drives and XP Pro with two hard drives. I can access the files on the XP PC from the Vista PC, and I can access the files on the second drive (D: Drive) on the Vista PC from the XP{ PC. BUT I cannot access the files on the C: Drive of the Vista PC from the XP PC. When I look into the properties dialogue box for each drive on the Vista PC I see differences in the security options, where on the D: Drive I get "Everybody" as the Group/user name but for the C: Drive I get "Authenticated users".

Installed software, now I want to uninstall, but I get an error message. Trying to remove manually, however Vista will not allow me to delete the folder or anything contained within. Under the security tab I enabled full access for everything listed. (why are all those there anyway? "creator owner", "system", "administrator" ((me)), "user" ((me)), and "trusted installer"). I'm the only one who uses this PC and I cannot access or manipulate any files?

I think I might have a good one for you.. I am working on an Acer 5610z Notebook for a friend of mine. He was setting the parental controls and managed to control his account which had admin access. the user listing has the account listing as an admin but he only has standard user access. His was the "only" admin account.. While he was doing this he managed to deny access to the boot drive. The drive reads as "Access Denied". The machine boots up and a person can play games etc.. but network access is restricted.

Our Vista laptops (& my Xbox) access our basic Windows Home Server system through a Netgear router. It's all fine, but I want to (easily & quickly!) restrict & control when some laptops can access the internet while allowing free access to the server. (For instance, so children's internet access can be monitored but they can always get to photos & backups, etc. on the server.)

i installed World of Warcraft and it's expansions and started patching it. When patching from 3.1.0 to 3.1.1, the process kept stoping and 70% then just exit without returning any error in return. So i thought i should run the Repair tool and try again. Only now, when i tried to access WoW.exe i got this error: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
So i came upon this little reg file called Take Ownership, i ran it but nothing has changed. Also, if i: right click wow.exe->properties->compatibility i cannot tick the "Run this program as an administrator" box. My only options now, are a complete reinstall of the game and patches (but that's just wrong, because there has to be a more logical solution).

I have spent 2 weeks on this now. I recently installed Vista Ultimate on my main pc (PC1), and using the default sharing wizard, shared a series of folders to the 'Everyone' group, as I allow my private home network to access my shares anonymously. Everything was working fine for the first few days, PC2 and PC3 where able to successfully access the shares, until one day it just stopped working and when PC2/PC3 attempted to access the shared folders via ‘Start > Network’ or UNC Path \VISTA , it would say “Access is Denied”. Having said that, to make it more complex, the shares are accessible if you type the folder share name, ie \VISTAMovies.......

Vista has blocked access to all of my files, and it's not because I did anything from a non-administrator account. This happened to me several months ago, and could not be resolved no matter which account I tried to make changes from (Vista never has saved any changes to my permissions settings even in the original Administrator account). All posted comments presumed it was as basic as switching user accounts, but when none of that worked I ended up deleting the subordinate account.
I've been fine for almost a year, and now the same problem, but with a lot more to lose in files and programs! Currently, I have one account other than the original "Administrator", which is also of type "Administrator" (never understood why this is possible, but it is, and I just couldn't limit my own permissions). I have Vista Home Premium 6.

I own a Toshiba Qosmio x300(running on Vista home premium x64) and recently my oldest laptop, HP (windows XP pro x32), died from overheating.
Lucky for me, the hdd is still alive as I have some VERY important files on it (Work related)
The problem is that I cannot retrieve them:
here's exactly what I did:
I inserted my HP's hdd into my Toshiba.
(tried booting from XP but could not start windows since it seems to crash after the loading screen with the XP logo) (Also tried booting in safe mode, but same result)
So, I booted successfully from vista.
when I try to access the "My Documents" folder of the windows XP administrator account from windows vista, it says: Access denied.
I tried also making an administrator account from vista(exact name, case sensitive and same password) hoping to achieve success but no such luck.. I tried various software unlockers but none of them worked.

I'm logged in on an administrator account, yet I can't access the folder C:Program Files (x86)Everest Pokerhistory. I get the windows message "C:Program Files (x86)EverestPokerhistory is not accessible. Access is denied."" I've tried "Taking Ownership" of the folder using a registry tool i found on google, to no avail. I've been told that I can solve the issue by turning off UAC, but I'd rather not compromise security if I don't have to.

I have Vista x64 Ultimate on my desktop and Vista x64 Home Premium on my wireless laptop. I’m trying to share files and folders. I believe I’ve done everything I needed to enable file sharing on both computers. All my Sharing and Discovery buttons are turned on except Password Protect Sharing. I added “Everyone” to my sharing list on both computers. Both computers have the same Workgroup name.
I don’t know how to access the shared files/folders from either computer. All the web sites I’ve visited tell me how to enable sharing but none of them tell me how to access them. It’s probably a simple process but I can’t figure it out.

At the risk of sounding ignorant once more, can anybody tell me where/how I can access cookie files in VISTA. Got "show all hidden files" enabled" and in Search I checked "show all hidden....."; am logged in as administrator and still can't find cookie folders. Am on IE7 now but had Firefox for a while and suspect there are a few cookies left from Firefox I want delete manually; I know I can dump 'em all but I don't want to do that.
