Cannot Access File From Disc
Mar 23, 2008I recently saved word documents to disc. It saved properly. Now I cannot access the file from the disc because the original file/shortcut was deleted from my computer.

Windows Cannot Access This Disc
May 12, 2009when i put a dvd (any dvd) into either dvd drive i get the following message : "Windows cannot access this disc. The disc might be corrupt. Make sure the disc uses a format that windows recognises. If the disc is unformatted, you need to format it before using it."
Problem 1 - is that the drives are actually ide and not scsi
Problem 2 - doesnt matter what disc i put in neither of them can read it
Problem 3 - its definatly vista an not hardware as both drives work perfect in same machine with windows 7 instalation
Ive had this problem twice before and its due to an update windows installs... but which one?? It always happens during the instalation of sp1 or within days after it. The last time it happened was at my last install of vista x64, sep 2008. I think i got the KB number from this site but i cant find the right one to uninstall. does anyone know which KB update i should uninstall please? ive spent 4 hours looking through masses of google results to no result. Ive already uninstalled KB943899 but that didnt fix it.
Usb External Hard Disc Can't Access
Jun 16, 2008I have just installed a new USB external hard disc and although I have set it up to be shared and it appears on the network, I can't access it from other computers on the network. When I try tro access the drive I get an access denied, 0x80070005 error, saying I don't have the right path or password.

Jun 23, 2008I have my laptop connecting to a server under AD control. My laptop is not joined to AD by design. I set up some files using 'Sync' to have them available to me offline. My AD password has since changed and I cannot connect to the server to have access to other files set up for offline access. When I attempt to remap the drive, I get an error stating I am already connected using the credentials provided. This is not true, since I cannot access the server. What do I need to do to fix this problem?

Nov 27, 2009I ran Spybot S&D, got rid of any viruses it got and Mallware Bytes, again, removed everything. Even ran McAfee and got rid of whatever. But each time i run the scan on Spybot S&D it finds site that redirect me. I press fix selected items but it responds by saying "cannot access hosts file. Access is denied" I tried to untick the "protect hosts file form hijackers" in IE tweaks but keeps getting checked. On top of that the Hosts file is missing.

Nov 3, 2009Basically my gf's pc started to mess up alot, she was using it at uni with no internet connection but as soon as she finished uni and brought it back and started using the internet it started playng up, so she got it formated, but alas, no vista disc, she still has the product code on a sticker on the PC itself. She has already paid for vista so is there a way of getting the vista disc (for her pc) for free?? if so/if not where can i get one and will this work ok??

Jul 14, 2009i installed World of Warcraft and it's expansions and started patching it. When patching from 3.1.0 to 3.1.1, the process kept stoping and 70% then just exit without returning any error in return. So i thought i should run the Repair tool and try again. Only now, when i tried to access WoW.exe i got this error: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
So i came upon this little reg file called Take Ownership, i ran it but nothing has changed. Also, if i: right click wow.exe->properties->compatibility i cannot tick the "Run this program as an administrator" box. My only options now, are a complete reinstall of the game and patches (but that's just wrong, because there has to be a more logical solution).

May 28, 2009I have a File Sharing Problem. Here is the situation. Both Computers DELL and HP Desktops Running Vista Home Premium. Connected to the Network. Wited Connected. Details on both computers... Work Group = OFFICE
Network Discovery = ON
File Sharing = ON
Public Folder Sharing = ON
Password Protected Sharing = OFF
Media Sharing = ON
The HP Computer can see all Files and Folders on the DELL. Example Documents, Pictures, Music etc. I can open all these folders, add, delete etc. No Problems....

I recently installed Vista Ultimate on my main pc (PC1), and using the default sharing wizard, shared a series of folders to the 'Everyone' group, as I allow my private home network to access my shares anonymously. Everything was working fine for the first few days, PC2 and PC3 where able to successfully access the shares, until one day it just stopped working and when PC2/PC3 attempted to access the shared folders via ‘Start > Network’ or UNC Path \VISTA , it would say “Access is Denied”. Having said that, to make it more complex, the shares are accessible if you type the folder share name, ie \VISTAMovies.......

Feb 11, 2009Vista has blocked access to all of my files, and it's not because I did anything from a non-administrator account. This happened to me several months ago, and could not be resolved no matter which account I tried to make changes from (Vista never has saved any changes to my permissions settings even in the original Administrator account). All posted comments presumed it was as basic as switching user accounts, but when none of that worked I ended up deleting the subordinate account.
I've been fine for almost a year, and now the same problem, but with a lot more to lose in files and programs! Currently, I have one account other than the original "Administrator", which is also of type "Administrator" (never understood why this is possible, but it is, and I just couldn't limit my own permissions). I have Vista Home Premium 6.
Access Denied To Host Pc For File Sharing
Mar 7, 2009I am having an issue with accessing the host pc. I have shared a couple of folders on the host pc but when i try to access it from two other pc in our office i get an error of access denied. from the host pc i can access the files shared on the other two pc's. From pc 1 i can access the files on pc 2 and the same goes for pc 2 accessing pc 1 fils with no problem. ITs just when i try and access the host pc from pc 1 or pc 2 i can and i get the error saying access is denied. I have went onto the host pc and took off the firewall and also deleted the McAffee secuirty software and also when in and made sure the settings are on for file shairing but still nothing.

Mar 25, 2008running Vista Ultimate 64bit. I created a junction point which mapped to my User folder on external hard drive. Then removed this junction point and pointed it back to the default C:Users... location but ever since the file system is terrible slow even on basic operations such as rename file. So it's NOT a slow copy/move file issue, just that all basic file functions are terrible slow. It doesn't matter if it's in my Users folder or elsewhere. When i clicked "Show me the message" my computer went to a gray screen (with older-themed windows looking message) there were two windows this time, one giving me the option to return and the other box showing a hand holding a moving green bug type thing, from what i remember it said this file is infected and needs to be deleted then replaced... it gave me a long list of about 8 or so options and i clicked 'delete' and nothing significant seemed to happen, because the 'delete' option was still there, so i clicked return and nothing had changed, my windows were still up and everything.

Jan 30, 2008I have three computers networked together via a Linksys Wireless Router. One Dell running XP Pro, and two HP laptops (wireless) one running Vista Ultimate x64 and the other running Vista Home Premium x32. I have all issues resolved (that I've discovered so far anyway) except one. There is a shared external hard drive conneced via USB to the XP, which I have mapped to both Vistas. I can see it when I open 'My Computer' but when I click on it I get an error that says "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have appropriate permissions to view the item." The odd thing about it is that I can access the contents of the drive by right-clicking on it and choosing either 'explore' or 'open.' I can access drives mapped from the Vista(s) to the XP on the XP just fine, just not the other way around.

The same applied to CBS.persist. I am able to open CheckSUR, CheckSUR.persist and Filterlist. Upon opening properties on these three files the date created, modified and accessed is May-28-09. The dates for CBS are as follows: Created: November-27-08; Modified: June-15-09; Accessed: May-31-09. The dates for CBS.persist are: Created: November-27-08; Modified May-31-09; Accessed:November-27-08. The CBS file is apparently 15.7 MB and the CBS.persist file is 50.2 MB. access the relevant CBS file?

I'm using VS 2008 on Vista Ultimate created using VB. My Deployment Project is creating a subform under C:ProgramData and I can get my files installed there no problem (DefaultLocation = [CommonFilesFolder][ProductName]). I've set the application UAC setting to run "asInvoker", uiAccess="false". The application appears to read/write and update the Access Database tables no problem but if I try to Read or Write to my XML file, in the same folder, I get "Access Denied". I have also set my application security properties to "Click once security settings" and 'Full trusted application". Still no go!!?? I'm using a simple ReadXml and Write XML commands to update the XML file. I am the Administrator on the computer..............

I want to change the start menu and get rid of a bunch of garbage but I can't enter the folder to do so. When I use the start menu program, it only has a few basic folders. He was setting the parental controls and managed to control his account which had admin access. the user listing has the account listing as an admin but he only has standard user access. His was the "only" admin account.. While he was doing this he managed to deny access to the boot drive. The drive reads as "Access Denied". The machine boots up and a person can play games etc.. but network access is restricted.

Recovery Disc
May 5, 2008After my PC was burned out by lightening through my Broadband connection I
received a new PC from my insurers with Win.Vista Business, but I did not
received (and will not) the Windows Installation CD.
Whilst setting up the new PC with various matters an invitation appeared for
me to make a Windows Recovery disc, but I was too busy with other matters to
do it there and then, so thinking that this invitation will appear again I
cancelled it.
It is now some weeks and the invitation has not reappeared. Which way can I
make the Recovery Disc in case of a crash?
