i got sent some world of warcraft patches through a friend on MSN...we done it on my lan so it went alot quicker, they sent fine but when i try open the files i get this error message; Windows has found this file Potentially harmful, to help protect your computer, Windows has blocked access to this file.
View 4 RepliesSeveral weeks ago UAC started blocking access to my root drive. Not sure if it occured after an update or not. I have restored to about 2 months earlier but the problem persists. Tried TweakUAC but no change. I'm not sure modifying the Regestry is the way to go. Hate to have to reinstal and start over.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have my laptop connecting to a server under AD control. My laptop is not joined to AD by design. I set up some files using 'Sync' to have them available to me offline. My AD password has since changed and I cannot connect to the server to have access to other files set up for offline access. When I attempt to remap the drive, I get an error stating I am already connected using the credentials provided. This is not true, since I cannot access the server. What do I need to do to fix this problem?

Everything worked fine accept when I went to copy the corrupt file from the mounted oem disk to the windowsystem32 directory I get you need permission to continue.
I use windows explorer (admin permission) and cmd prompt (user permission), I tried to copy directly from the oem disk to the system directory. didn't work, copied the file to the desktop which worked fine, however when I copied it fromt the desktip to the system directory it didn't work. What is the permission required message I get related to. I thought running as Adm would allow me to do the task but not so. Anyone, I need some insight on how to proceed.
The xp desktop can see and access the vista laptop. However I can only access the xp files from the vista laptop if the xp firewall is turned off. How can I access the files with the xp firewall turned on.

I ran netstat -ano and find out it is PID 4 which is System is using port 80, but I have no idea which one just added with the update to stop the service.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just recently got a new computer installed with the Vista Home Premium x64 OS. After many failed attempts at transferring my old files i eventually ended up putting my old hard drive into my new computer, and attempted to drag and drop into a folder i created specifically for those files. Upon trying to do this, it transferred all of my program files, but when it gets to my actual documents, where i keep my most important files, it says i need administrative permission to do this.
Then, when i tried to access the files directly in my old hard drive, it said that i couldn't do that, and showed this: "You don't currently have permission to access this folder. Click continue to get access to this folder." "You have been denied permision to access this folder. To gain access to this folder you will need to use the security tab." and then when i use the security tab to transfer file permission to me, it still doesn't do anything.
I have been getting the blue screen of death w/reboot alot with my Vista box..I have d'loaded the tool to read the mini*.dmp files but it will not give me access. I suspect it is my ethernet card drive but I cannot tell. I always crash while on the internet and under load. The manufacturer of the box updated the ethernet driver without any change to the crashing. How can I read this file ??? can I send this (these) files to someone that can decipher them?

The problem is : Both Laptop & pc can see each other in the network. From the pc I can access the shared files on the laptop, no problem. I cannot access any files on the pc when I select the pc in my network I get an error which says " Cannot access \computername. Check the spelling of the name, otherwise there may be a problem with your network. I have attempted pinging the pc from my laptop, but it keeps timing out I can ping my laptop from my pc. I opened a browser on my laptop and entered \ipaddress of the pc . I got an error. pc cannot be found. I did the same \ipaddress of the wireless router. I got an error. cannot be found. I did the same \ipaddress of the laptop. I was able to see all the files on my laptop. If you look at the image, this is my network. when I attempt to access the pc named DB that is when the problem arises.

Both are connected to a linksys wired router, both are online. I went to set up files sharing and thought I did. When I check my view network in vista I can see the xp machine and and vista machine. I have no acces to the xp machine. Is this because the xp machine is fat32 file system and vista is nfts. I was just checking some other post on another forum and found that fat32 can read ntfs and vice versa.

I can access the files on the XP PC from the Vista PC, and I can access the files on the second drive (D: Drive) on the Vista PC from the XP{ PC. BUT I cannot access the files on the C: Drive of the Vista PC from the XP PC. When I look into the properties dialogue box for each drive on the Vista PC I see differences in the security options, where on the D: Drive I get "Everybody" as the Group/user name but for the C: Drive I get "Authenticated users".

Trying to remove manually, however Vista will not allow me to delete the folder or anything contained within. Under the security tab I enabled full access for everything listed. View 4 Replies View RelatedOn my x64 box, TFS power tools was conflicting with Office Communicator. So I blocked Office Communictor from the startup sequence. As I expected, at startup I would get a message "Blocked startup programs" with the option to "run blocked program" if I want to launch Office Communicator explicitly. Good.
Then I uninstalled TFS power tools, and decided to unblock Office Communicator, so it can run at startup again. Unfortunately, the Office Communicator app shows as "Permitted," but is still being blocked at startup.
In other words, I can't unblock Office Communicator. Vista says it is "permitted", but it is not permitted at startup. I tried disabling and re-enabling it, to see if it would clear up, but no good.
How do I force it to be unblocked so that it will run at startup?
My Dad has a laptop running Windows Vista and he is forever installing stupid programs which he then gets me to remove as they have messed up his computer in some way. With this in mind, I was wondering if there is a way that I can somehow put a block on him installing new programs on Windows?

Lucky for me, the hdd is still alive as I have some VERY important files on it (Work related)
The problem is that I cannot retrieve them:
here's exactly what I did:
I inserted my HP's hdd into my Toshiba.
(tried booting from XP but could not start windows since it seems to crash after the loading screen with the XP logo) (Also tried booting in safe mode, but same result)
So, I booted successfully from vista.
when I try to access the "My Documents" folder of the windows XP administrator account from windows vista, it says: Access denied.
I tried also making an administrator account from vista(exact name, case sensitive and same password) hoping to achieve success but no such luck.. I tried various software unlockers but none of them worked.
I cannot access my user account files on my laptop via my PC, I can access the public folder, and other folders on the laptop but not User account, It is not password protected. It is probably something quite simple,

I believe I’ve done everything I needed to enable file sharing on both computers. All my Sharing and Discovery buttons are turned on except Password Protect Sharing. I added “Everyone” to my sharing list on both computers. Both computers have the same Workgroup name.
I don’t know how to access the shared files/folders from either computer. All the web sites I’ve visited tell me how to enable sharing but none of them tell me how to access them. It’s probably a simple process but I can’t figure it out.
At the risk of sounding ignorant once more, can anybody tell me where/how I can access cookie files in VISTA. Got "show all hidden files" enabled" and in Search I checked "show all hidden....."; am logged in as administrator and still can't find cookie folders. Am on IE7 now but had Firefox for a while and suspect there are a few cookies left from Firefox I want delete manually; I know I can dump 'em all but I don't want to do that.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've had for the last 2-3 days: There's an FTP that I need access to to move files back and forth between co-workers. I use Windows Explorer to access this, normally with no issues.....just type in the ftp address, and there it is. Now whenever I do this, I get an error: This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel.
I went into the Set Associations control panel, but don't know what extension to change, as it's not really a "file", and there's no mention anywhere of FTP. Everyone else that uses the FTP doesn't have an issue, so it's not a problem with the ftp itself.
After months of diddling in an effort to access shared files on my XP computer from my Vista computer I was finally able to access the files using Windows Explorer after the final reboot after installing SP1. My glee was short lived however because after turning my Vista computer off and then on again I still cannot access the shared files on my XP computer. I can see the XP computer in "Network and Sharing Center" > "View Full Map", but I can't view the shared files by double clicking on the XP computer icon.

Workgroup is WORKGROUP on both computers I am able to access a shared printer on the XP computer I am able to access the shared files on my XP computer by using Internet Explorer and entering \Computername in the address bar. I am able to access a NAS drive on my network using Windows Explorer.
i ahve windows vista untimate 64 bit. I am the only one using this computer. When I want to play a game such as Flight Simulator I get a message saying I do not have access to creat scenery files, contact administrator. I have checked, and I am logged on as administrator but games will not open and come up with sam message.
