Can't Print: (Windows XP - Vista Doesn't Exist)

Oct 26, 2008

I connected a HP Deskjet 670C to a laptop (Vista), using a USB to Parallel Converter. I downloaded the driver (Windows XP - Vista doesn't exist) for the printer and installed the driver that came with the cable. I can't print.

Search Indexing Doesn't Exist

Mar 23, 2008

I've had my Vista-based laptop four months now, and finally getting enough email and files that searches are becoming a problem...My indexing doesn't exist somehow. Does anyone know how to turn it on? I've gone into the Indexing Options in the control panel - everything is greyed out except the CLOSE button. No files are listed, and I cannot click on MODIFY or ADVANCED.

When I'm in MS Outlook and Click on "Indexing Status", I get a pop up error message saying " Cannot find this file. Verify the path and file name are correct. I have several PST files that I use for work and inevitably my searches will exclude half of my emails. Lately I've had to troll file by file through my emails.. not pretty. I've been unable to find anything in online Help relating to this situation. Has anyone seen it before and if so, what am I missing; what do I need to do?

Miss Net Medic, Which Doesn't Work On Windows Vista

Apr 30, 2009

I really miss net medic, which doesn't work on windows vista, I'm lost without it. Net Medic worked on all windows from Win98 through to XP but not vista (sob). Is there any equivalent program that will do the same as net medic and work on windows vista? For those not familiar with net medic it was a data speed monitoring program, it ran in a small window and worked a bit like a speedo in a car and showed live data feed as it was happening.

Windows Mail Co-exist With Outlook

Mar 23, 2008

I use Outlook, (not Outlook Express) and am gearing up to send a work-related HTML newsletter from my personal PC. It looks like I need to do this through Windows Mail. My question: after I configure the ingoing and outgoing mail servers for Windows Mail, will this disable my Outlook functionability? In other words, I'd like to know before I go any further whether or not I can use both Windows Mail and Outlook on my PC (using Vista, Home Premium). I want to keep all my personal emailing intact in Outlook, and only use Windows Mail to send the work-related newsletter.

Printer Is Installed By Vista, But I Can't Print

Mar 23, 2008

i have problem with HP Deskjet 450 under Vista Home Premium. Printer is installed by Vista, everything looks ok, but i can't print. When i want to print Test page, only row of 2-20 smilies is coming out in best case and print job shows error . When i ask HP, they say Microsoft is responsible for drivers. Microsoft says i should ask HP. I slowly begin to be annoyed. Have bought short certified hi-speed USB 2.0 cable. Windows update shows that there is optional update for Other hardware - dj450 USB, dowloaded and it says it is not possible to install, error code: 80070103. Under Win XP are no problems. Is there any solution aside from buying new printer or downgrade to XP?Is there a way to install this update

Running Vista Can Print Shared

Jun 11, 2009

Two shared printers off 2 computers running XP. One notebook running Vista that can print fine to one shared printer but not the other. The one it *can* print to is hardwired to the network, the one in *cannot* isn't. But, that's not the problem. The notebook "sees" the printer share just fine. Just trying to connect or run the setup wizard ultimately leads to an "access denied" error. 1) I tried googling the answer and it wasn't "add a local printer" (even though it's not) 2) I tried installing the printer driver both before and after adding the printer (didn't work) I mean it's *right* there, the machine sees it. Why can't it connect to it? Do I need to change something in the machine's permission settings? It's an effing printer. Who cares if the whole world sees it.

Vista SP1: Not Recognize Print Automatiquely

But when I have linked my printer on my other computer who running on Windows Vista SP1 32bit, I can install the printer, I select the port who is LPT1, after, I choose the "EPL 5700" on the drivers list, and I finish the configuration. Vista Take A Long Time To Print Even Just A 1 Word Paper Using Notepad

May 15, 2010

I am running Windows Vista Home premium 64bit with 8gb ram and an hp c309a printer. My problem is that vista take a long time to print even just a 1 word paper using notepad. Also when i right click the printer in the printer folder it also take time to open the properties, aprox 3 minutes. So if i try to print it takes 3 minutes just to open the tab to click print and to select the printer i wish to use. The c309a is connected by usb cable, and i have tried re-installing the latest drivers and firmware for the printer as well as different usb cables and each of my usb ports. Yet for some reason there is a long 3+ minute pause when trying to print. I have also tried using the network feature and I still have same trouble. Also i have checked to make sure print spooling is on in services. HP has a utility to check for issues for both network and for usb, and the printer passes each test fine. I have done so many full uninstalls and installing of the software as well as the cable changes it is driving me nuts. I have been google'ing for days and days and have had no luck in fixing this issue. One last comment every time i try to print the applications I am using freeze for the 3+ minutes and the window application shows "application not responding", but after 3+ minutes i can finally select the printer and hit print, then at that point it freezes again for about 2 minutes and then prints. I have run multiple virus scans and multiple spyware detection programs and have also run online virus scans using bitdefend and trendmicro as well and i have no virus or spyware. I have also ran "hijackThis" and been told my system appears clean.

Esata On X64 Vista Doesn't See It

Feb 6, 2009

I use an external esata enclosure. When I plug it into my laptop, Vista Ultimate x64 recognises the hotplugging and sees the drive right away, and handles it fine when I switch off. I have a Vista Ultimate x64 desktop using a motherboard without a built esata port. The enclosure came with an esata adapter plate that internally connects to a sata port on the motherboard. This works, but only if I boot the PC up with the external drive switched on first. If I switch it on later, Vista doesn't see it. I understood that sata eand esata were both hot pluggable, so I'm not sure why this is not working. Does the motherboard need a esata port to work with a esata based external hdd enclosure (to allow hotplug capability). I can purchase a PCI express card that provides an esata port, but I don't know if thats going to make a difference.

Installed Vista X64 Ram Of Xp Doesn't Recongnize

Jun 20, 2008

I installed a copy of Vista x64 Ultimate to try out on my machine because i have 4Gb of ram and windows XP doesn't recognize it It installed on my AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ black edition no problem, but after it downloaded 42 updates i went into a BSOD loop. No matter what i did after that, i could not re-install XP on anyone of the 6 Hd's i had in my system. If i tried... BSOD.

I had no choice but to purchase yet another HD (which i didnt really need) just so i can use that as a singular connected drive to install XP on again. Now then, most of my drives are now unreadable in XP and i get messages like this an error occurred reading folder:the volume does not contain a recognized file system. please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted (1005) I have even tried connecting said drives to USB/Firewire external enclosures to see if i can access files that way. If i have lost over 2Tb of data on these drives just for installing vista, i will be looking for someone at MS to assassinate please tell me there is a viable solution to this

Doesn't Show Vista Log-in Screen

Jun 25, 2008

Yesterday I removed my ATI Radeon X800Pro card because it caused graphics issues. I rebooted the computer and it automatically switched to the nvidia GeForce 6100 GPU onboard graphics. It had a fairly updated Windows driver installed for it. I went to nvidia to download the newest driver. During the installation of that driver, the screen went blank. I waited 5 minutes and nothing happened. I restarted my pc and now it doesn't show the Vista log-in screen anymore. All I get is that little green bar on the bottom and then the screen turns black. All I can see is a tiny little green strip (of the log-in page) on the top of my screen. How can I fix that? I still got XP, which I am using right now. I tried to boot Vista in Safe mode but it got stuck while it was loading the drivers...

Vista Search Doesn't Locate

May 15, 2010

I have been wanting to address this problem for some time now but I have always felt that it is going to be difficult to understand and solve. Maybe, maybe not. I just looked at some of the previous FAQs on this subject and I don't fully understand their fixes. One fix tells me to go to change the Indexing somehow by disabling it. But when I go there, that box is inactive and cannot be changed apparently. So before I go further and not know what I am doing, I decided to post and ask for help. To illustrate my problem, let's say I am trying to find a file in my Downloads folder. I open my Downloads folder and can see the file I want. Yet when I do a Search for that file, the Search cannot locate it. It is as if the file doesn't exist. But I am looking right at it in Downloads!

I don't yet know how deep this problem goes, i.e. what if my file I wanted was a .dll file or something deep in the computer and I couldn't find it? Is the fix to this problem simply to disable Indexing? Or is there something more sinister going on with Search not being able to find anything?
