Miss Net Medic, Which Doesn't Work On Windows Vista
Apr 30, 2009
I really miss net medic, which doesn't work on windows vista, I'm lost without it. Net Medic worked on all windows from Win98 through to XP but not vista (sob). Is there any equivalent program that will do the same as net medic and work on windows vista? For those not familiar with net medic it was a data speed monitoring program, it ran in a small window and worked a bit like a speedo in a car and showed live data feed as it was happening.
I have had Windows Vista 64 for 2 Months now and of that period of time it worked soundly for about 2 Weeks. I am NOT an irresponsible User, I don't just delete Data, I know a little something about computing, I don't visit or download from dubious sites etc.
1) Without any reason software suddently doesn't work. a) I installed a Antivirussoftware - after 3 Weeks it suddently didn't work any more (Kaspersky) I couldn't reinstall it. b) I installed a new Antivirussoftware - after 5 days it didn't work anymore. c) 4 days later I started to get errormessages "Windows Defender doesn't work any more" - "Windows Hostprocess doesn't work anymore"
A kind soul kindly sent me this script which gives an audible alert when a chat window opens on my PC.
It doesn't work on VISTA any ideas as to what needs to be changed?
set shell=createobject("wscript.shell") while NOT shell.appactivate("Private Chat") wscript.sleep 2000 wend shell.run "c:/windows/media/tada.wav" wscript.quit
I turned on "Toggle Keys" in Control PanelEase of Access CenterMake the keyboard easier to use. It is supposed to cause a beep when you press the Caps Lock, Num Lock, or Scroll Lock keys. It worked great in XP, but it doesn't work in Vista.
For those having issues with itunes and ipod syncing while running vista 64 bit you must get the new itunes 64 bit version. This can be installed over the old Itunes. search itunes 64 on apples website. If this doesnt work then try to find your solution somewhere else
using an old DOS program that worked under XP, but doesn't appear to work properly in Vista. When I execute the program, it comes up with the error message "This system does not support fullscreen mode. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application." My choices then are "Close" or "Ignore". Whichever option I click on, the program will then run, but in a miniscule window that I can't alter. how to get this to run in fullscreen like it did before? I'm working on getting him to join the 21st century, but in the interim, I'd like to make this work...at least temporarily.
To rename a file, you do not need to open the file in a program.
Right-click the file that you want to rename, and then click Rename.
Type the new name, and then press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Tip
You can also rename several files at once. If you give files of the same type the same name, each file will have the same name followed by a different sequential number (such as Renamed File (2), Renamed File (3), and so on). This can be useful for grouping related items. To do this, select all the files you want to rename, and then follow the same steps as you would for renaming an individual file. Each of the files will be saved with the new name, and a different sequential number will be appended automatically to the end of each file name.
1. A newsgroup show 8 messages unread, but when I click on 'Next unread message' Mail said 'there are no more messages, got to next newsgroup?'. It is the only newsgroup that shows this.
2. A blank screen, something I can't explain, appeared over the screen of Mail. I could not access the Start Button. I did an and picked 'Task Manager', but it never appeared.
3. I could do to get to another application or the desktop, but nothing else. I tried to shut down and but couldn't get to the button. Nothing would work.
This isn't the first time Windows Mail had done strainge things. At present it show no messages but when I first click this newsgroup it show thousands of messages.
Windows Installer doesn't work. Whenever I open setup.exe of any game it says Configuring Windows Installer.. Preparing to install.."POOF"!! and there it goes !!Any solution for this? I tried system restore. I also tried the Windows Installer update thing. It says Not enough space to preform this command. I have 60GB free space in my C:/ drive. Games I tried:Outrun 2 Coast 2 Coast Call of Duty 2.
I installed the AVG free antispyware software which I thought was a permanent program but after installing it, I noticed that it said it was only a 30 day trial version. So I uninstalled it but the shortcut remained on the desktop and now I cannot delete it. I already have the patch for removing undeletable emails stuck in windows mail, but that obviously doesn't work for anything outside the mail program.
The Windows Explorer under Vista Home Premium does not list my new HP Color LaserJet 1600 even though the printer works fine and is an available printer to every other application on my computer, including Internet Explorer. Is this a bug in Vista Home Premium? I can work around this by printing in the Paint program but it would be quicker and more straight forward to be able to print directly from Windows Explorer.
Recently I had problems with my windows vista so i made a new one but now everytime i turn my laptop on, the windows boot manager comes up with two options, Microsoft windows vista or Microsoft Windows vista. The first one is the old one which doesnt work so everytime i turn my laptop on i have to press down to highlight the new vista option. Does anyone know how i can get rid off this boot manager so my laptop loads straight up to the new vista option.
In Outlook Express I could do the following to extract music from an Email but it doesn't work in Windows Mail: Click Tools>Options>Send, Change settings to Plain Text for sending, Click Apply, then OK, then highlight the message and click Forward and the attached music file should appear just below the Subject line where you can then click File/Save Attachment.
I'm sure this problem is easy to solve. It's just that I can't see it.Because Vista has been causing me so many problems (blue crash screens, system restore doesn't work etc) I must restore to factory settings, wiping the c: disk and starting again. I have backed up all files on an external drive. The problem is that I can't see how to import all my mail accounts and mail history back into Windows Mail which will have been reloaded from new.
I got a virus which I was successfully able to remove from my system but now Windows Media Player doesn't work. Clicking yes just takes me to their website where there isn't a version of WMP for Vista, only for XP. From what I've found there isn't a way to reinstall WMP for Vista. Is there a way to repair this error?
I am running Windows Vista Premium Home SP1. When I boot my computer, Windows Defender doesn't start automatically. It works fine if I start it manually. I have never run Windows OneCare, MSCONFIG shows it set to start, the Windows Defender service is set to automatic and Tools | Options has all the checkboxes checked.
I connected a HP Deskjet 670C to a laptop (Vista), using a USB to Parallel Converter. I downloaded the driver (Windows XP - Vista doesn't exist) for the printer and installed the driver that came with the cable. I can't print.
my computer is a hp pavilion a1230n and when i upgraded it to windows vista, the sound card suddenly stopped working! i looked around, and my sound card doesn't seem to have any drivers for windows vista. i looked at the model, and i think this is it :integrated ati radeon xpress 200. my device manager says no device has been installed, but it's there because it was working with windows xp. i was wondering if there's any way i could update it or something.
I am running Vista Home Premium 64 and there is no 64 bit version of Zone Alarm so I am depending upon the Windows Firewall instead. It may be a safer product than Zone Alarm. I have no way to know. But I miss Zone Alarm because I could always see when something was initially trying to send data out of my computer. With Zone Alarm during or directly after installing an app I would get a pop up message from ZA asking me if I wanted to let a specific app go out through the fire wall. Maybe I have something set up wrong with the Windows Firewall but I don't recollect that I have seen this with the WF. When I go to the WF window it says that it is turned on.
Plus I am confused how to understand the Exceptions list. I don't see all the applications that I have installed on my computer that I would normally see in ZA. In fact I don't see most of the apps, including some that I know go out to do autochecking for updates. Plus when I look in the exceptions list I see that Skype is unchecked but Skype does work. So what does the check mean?
I stumbled upon vistax64 while researching superfetch in vista and honestly out of all the sites I have been to this one is the most informative and up to date. I found the tutorials section to be a real big help in fact I almost have vista setup just the way I want it because of the guides. I do have a quick question I miss the way XP did its start menu as in hover over a item to go to its menu, vista you have to actually click the menu, anyway to return that to the way it used to be while still keeping the default vista look?
I miss the search engine/program from win 2000 and XP. if I look for say... a PDF or cab or list all .exe, .pps, .xls with the word "setup" BOOM there they are. It's just not the same. I have been using { locate32 & super finder } just wondering if there are any others.
I just bought a Hp 8300 with the Windows media center running Vista. If I try and watch the TV, it will pause and need to restart the computer to use the computer. It just locks up. Hp Tech support had me install new drivers, then they had me do the reinstall to original settings.. It worked until I tried to record, then it locked up again and the TV doesn't work again. It will lock up after watching the TV about 15 seconds. I returned the computer and got another one, it does the same thing, Tech support told me I had a bad tuner (on 2 computers?) they sent me a new tuner, that didn't work. Then they said I needed to reinstall the factory settings from the disk, they sent that to me and that did not fix the problem. The computer did not come with a new monitor and I am using a Sony flatscreen, its about 4 years old. Is that my problem? I'm going to take the computer to the store and let them see if they can make it work with a new monitor.
My laptop use internet explorer 8. Recently, IE8 haven't saved images file in Internet Temporary folder, it saved only cookies, password. So I cannot access offline wed pages in History tab.
Whenever I click the link to open an online radio station windows media player within internet explorer just says Ready - it doesn't even begin to buffer and doesn't play at all. Has anyone else experienced this recently?
I have a new PC with Vista Home 32 bit. Will my paperport 10 that I ran on my Windows xp work with Vista? Paperport's web site doesn't really give a sure answer, says some 10 will and some won't. Will it cause my machine any problems if I try to install it?
Vista search doesn't seem to work at all on my computer. Indexing Options (from the Control Panel) says that 34,894 items are indexed and Indexing Options lists Microsoft Office Outlook, Offline Files, and Start Menu and Users in the Included Locations and the Exclude column shows "Default" Opposite Users in the Included locations. If I go to Advanced in Indexing Options and check various common file types like .doc and .xls they are marked (the box is checked) for index file names and contents. if I go to a folder that has a bunch of .xls file and type in the search box the start of a file name that I can plainly see in the list of files in that folder, the full list of files in that folder collapses to a list of one extraneous file that isn't at all what I'm looking for. I have just re-built the index and still have the sam problem. Needless to say search for file content doesn't work either - since I can't even search for file names.
if I click on Start > Control Panel -- click on Programs -- under Programs and features -- click on. Turn Windows features on or off" -- the box next to ???Indexing Service??? is unchecked. That doesn't make sense to me because the Indexing Options has indexed things.
I just did a clean install on my dell with vista home premium (32). Everything works fine except no music CDs, DVDs, or software CDs will autoplay. I've changed the settings in CP to different selections and it still doesn't work.
