View 5 RepliesI have been playing around with my Vista for some days now. I patched my registry to account for custom visual styles and all. The computer responded fine to all these changes until today. I installed Desktop Maestro 3.0.0.830 which according to the internet is a decent registry cleaner and works with vista sp2.
What I learnt from the net is that desktop maestro will clean registry and will quicken my startup. So i ran it, and it came up with 937 problems in my registry. So the next thing i did was "Repair". and it did just that. But since then my computer hasn't been starting up at all. Before the login screen comes, i get a blue screen, which remains for too short a time for me to read, and reboots.
Turned the computer on in Safe Mode, which worked perfectly. Ran desktop maestro again, and restored the computer to a previous state. This didn't work. it kept saying C: has some errors please check. But the disk check doesnt work.......
Everytime I return to work after putting computer to sleep, the computer wakes up without no problem. But once I move the mouse, a shadowed box appeared. With the moment of the mouse, the size of that box enlarges or shrinks. If I click on the mouse, that box disappeared but then a window [View/Sort by/Refresh/NVIDIA Control Panel/New/Personalize] opens. I close this window, only to find the pointer of mouse stop working and the screen is frozen. For now I solve the problem by two ways described below, but it is very annoying to have to do it everytime I return to work from Sleep.
1.I open Task Manager, do nothing, and close it.
2.I right click the mouse on desktop, change the size of Icons. Repeat this action one more time.
After having failed to install some program, mouse, precicely 'Double Click' stopped working, then I'm forced to use 'Open Page' by clicking intended icon, i.e. 'Word' by clicking and then 'open.' Also, 'Favorites' at the top, I'm NOT able to access any web-site because mouse/'clicking' does not work. 'Start' at far left bottom, if 'classic view,' mouse is completely useless.

I don't know whats up but my G9 Mouse is now showing a blue square on screen when I press the middle mouse button down to scroll pages, it used to show a circle with 2 arrows within one facing up the other facing down if I remember rightly. Now its just a blue square, its uptodate software and driver wise, so I really do not know what else to try, I just tried setting the wheel to a different option, it is currently set to Autoscroll, but nothing else makes the problem stop and go back to how it was.
View 9 Replies View Relatedhey everyone, so i know that there have been lots of post similar to this, but none of the actual responses work in my case. I used my laptop in the morning, no problem, and that afternoon, after I logged in, "welcome" popped up, and it remained on that screen for approx 30 seconds, and then it turned black. the cursor works but you cant see anything, but it sounds like everything is loading. I tried to press control, alt, delete but that doesnt work. It just sits there.
So I tried running it in safe mode, and if i hold down f8, it beeps for a bit, and then sometimes it runs in safe mode, sometimes not. I tried doing a system restore, but that didnt work. I dont know what else to do
I've been getting a lot of blue screen stop messages that halt mycomputer. About 2 weeks ago this was happening once a day. It became more frequent until yesterday it was happening every time I tried to boot up during the boot process. Last night, I finally copied off all of my files, formatted the hard drive, and installed a new copy of Vista Premium. Believe it or not, I still have the same problem - although now I can boot up and get some work done before a crash happens.
This is a Sony Vaio laptop with 1.25 gigs of ram and a 70 gig hard drive. The error messages are always different. I didn't write any of them down, but they are like "Subset not less than zero" and "Page fault in non-paging area" and "IQL server not found" (I'm sure these aren't right, but you get the idea). So, how could this be happening on a clean and formatted hard drive with a brand new operating system? Is the problem in the BIOS or the motherboard or somewhere else?
My pc crashes seemingly at random points in the day, this morning it crashed 3 times and has not since. The info at blue screen is as follows:
STOP: 0x000000D1 (0x83A00000, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x8ABE4108)

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem with my mouse and the screen saver. I am using a laptop. I find that with the Kensignton USB mouse plugged in, my screen saver doesn't work. And yet if I unplug it from the usb port, the screen saver now works. As well, the mouse (when it is plugged in) wants to run the 'sidebar' down to the bottom on screens that have lots of data. I have to unplug the mouse and use my finger to move the mouse around.
View 4 Replies View Relatedanother problem with this OS, it seems once an hour my Windows Explorer will completely kick the bucket. What happens is all the windows and tabs at the bottom of the screen stop working and kind of migrate to the bottom left all mashing together making everything practically useless. So I end up have to end explorer.exe and resterting it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got this major bluescreen issue. Two days ago, I just restarted my pc for no particular reason, and when it was about to start it gives me this bluescreen. It starts up, I get the loading bar, but then bluescreen. I tried to chose any of the safe modes, but none of them work, just gives me the bluescreen again. To sum all this, I can?t start my computer due to a bluescreen issue, not even with safemodes. It gives me alot of text, but the screen dissappears after a few seconds so I can?t even read two lines. I'm running a HP Pavilion m8055.sc with Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit
View 9 Replies View RelatedI started out with Vista Ultimate on my new PC i get every now and than the famous BSOD. My PC is running 24x7 so most of the times it happens when I'm not sitting behind the pc. in the beginning (2 months ago) it happend about once a day, after a few later updates is only happend about once every 4 or 5 days. The only thing noticable I see is that after the PC rebooted from the BSOD the wireless network is not working (Siemens Gigaset USB Adapter 108) that is easily resolved by unplugging the USB connecter and plug it in again.
Yesterday I installed the Windows Updates that where published on April 8th, with the result that the BSOD now occured every 2 hours (not exactly but more or less) and after the third time I decided the uninstall all the security updates from that batch that i could uninstall. There were a few other updates but Office related that I left installed and on security update that I was unable to uninstall (the prereq update for SP1: KB938371). After rebooting the pc it has so far worked perfectly again for approx 20 hours.I have no clue of what migth be causing the problem,
I am trying to fix a laptop.. it is getting blue screen.. things i did
1. Replace ram
2. Tried booting on safe mode/ last good configuration both didn't work
When I put a windows cd for repair (windows XP Home) and boot from cd.. its goes on the window where I need to select 1.c:windows but when i select that.. it goes on blue screen again.. I removed the hard disk.. connect it externally and ran a chkdsk /r and chkdsk /f then put it back to the laptop still didnt work..
I recently got a blue screen in Windows vista (while I was working in a terminal Server session) and would like to know anyone can help me determine the cause of it?

I'd like to put a little disclaimer out here: I know very little about computers. I can navigate my way around them as needed for personal/school usage. Outside of that, my knowledge is spotty. Most of the technical stuff I need done on my computer is done by my father over breaks/weekends, because I can't leave my laptop with the Tech guys at my school since I take notes for every class on it.
So now for the computer... Oi. The computer I have is a Dell Inspiron 1420. I got it back in May. It's running Vista Home Premium 32BIT, and I'm using Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 (I don't know if that is relevant or not, but I'll include it just the same). Since I've gotten it, I've had more problems than I can count. The last problem I had before the current one (random BSODs), was a corrupt file on my computer (Dell Support Center). It wouldn't let me download or install anything, and I had to install SystemMechanic on my computer to get rid of the corrupt files/registries (I think. My father actually did this for me.) The SystemMechanic allowed me to uninstall/delete the corrupt file, and voila, it worked! For about two weeks.
Then I started getting blue screens of death. At first it was only one, and there were a few days/week and a half until I got another. And now, in the past two days, I've gotten at least two (I have left my computer sitting on my desk to do something and I have come back to find it "magically" rebooted and waiting for my login, or stuck on the black screen with the blinking underscore).
my problem being stuck at the blue/green screen while making a new fresh install.) Well I first signed up because I have was having install problems. When it got to the blue/green screen it wouldnt do anything. But what do u know.. right when I was typing this it starts to load and Im now on my way installing windows vista 64 bit! (cause I just recently bought 8gb of memory) Well... I guess I would explain my story since Im a newbie... and something for you guys to read.. Well my computer really needed a new HDD because for some reason my old one would always get curupted after like so many months... about 2-3 months? I was wow **** this. I wasnt sure why it was doing this. But my computer was only on a surge so I think maybe a couple power outages ****ed it up. (I already fixed that problem though, just bought a battery from newegg.com, when I bought more things, like my new hdd, memory, mouse and mouse pad.)
so finally my memory and windows vista x64 bit dvd came into the mail. As soon as I got em... I installed the memory then I wanted to upgrade my version of windows xp 32bit (I must say a really good OS at the moment, till when windows 7 comes out) So I tried just throwing in the cd and found out I couldnt upgrade that way. Because I got an error that said "somethin, cant remember the full message but bascially because I couldnt run 64bit dvd when I have 32bit" so no biggie right? Then I was like ok well I can just install it by booting up. I got passed the part that said "Now loading windows vista files" alright not bad... so far so good. But damn I was wrong when I got to the blue/green background. I noticed the dvd wasn't spinning my computer was just sitting there. It was frozen though since I could still move the mouse. So I was like oh man... cmon vista... Well I waited a little bit not to much though cause I think it should just pop up and start working. It wasnt doing that so I knew something was wrong......

Working beautifully for many months, and then a few
weeks ago this began happening:
Perhaps 2-3 times a week, and with no consistency of circumstances, a blue screen will appear. It might happen while working or when returning from hibernate. There's a countdown as memory is stored, and then a freeze. The only way to recover is to do a hard OFF (5 seconds on the power switch) and restart. When it first happened, I had not installed or changed anything, so I was comfortable doing a restore. It happened again.
It's confusing because the stated cause is inconsistent. I've checked to ensure that all drivers are updated and nothing that's contraVistarian is installed. What analytical steps can I undertake to discover what's causing this, and then to help me make the necessary changes?
I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced these annoying freezes that occur randomly in Vista 64. It can happen while I'm playing a game, it can happen while I'm browsing firefox etc. I freeze up about 4 times a day and the only solution is a hard restart.
It is beyond me, I have the video card drivers up to snuff, all updates are installed, virus scanners/spyware scanners, video card isn't overheating, CPU idles at 33 loads at 42. I'll describe the problem a little better other than to just say it's freezing. When the freeze occurs, the entire screen stops moving, I cannot move my mouse, all sound stops working, and if there was a sound playing, it will get mutilated into a nasty buzz.
Problem Blue Screen. No new hardware or software installed recently, last Windows vista update was on 01/15. When I start first, PC passes user registration (boots fine) and
does the normal stuff like loading software and starting the wireless internet connection via Netgear, opening some windows/programms I will close. All normal, but than comes a Blue Screen and very fast shut down of system with restart. Hardly can read the message...Look like Blue Screen appears when to much action is going on like opening of IE and Outlook... or open to many windows... or some bad programm/hardware is booting. But when I restart, restart gives a different blue screens and trouble is much earlier or directly after registering to the system.
But all starting or booting turn slower, real slow now. Start in --safe mode with net working-- the PC works, but the PC can't handle heavy workloads, is really slow in action. I cannot open --My pictures-- to see all picture files displyed on screen (2.7 GB) (the process trying to access the files in safe mode is real slow) and when I attempt to transfer the file to a USB stick, the computer is stopping in middle of action (after 50% transfer)..........
there is no setting in control panel, mouse, to stop the dble tapping of pad,,,i hate the fact that when u r in something , it may close on me,,,,if no setting in mouse, control panel, then what?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been doing a clean install of Vista x64 for about a week and have been getting many random blue screens of deaths yesterday I did another clean install and only had about 4 drivers or so installed and I got a BSOD but no dump file was created for some reason so I kept installing more drivers and it work for about 4 hours till it crahsed again this time it gave me a dump file so here are the results.......
View 5 Replies View RelatedLast week I bought a new Acer Aspire 6350 w/ Vista - My 1st Vista machine. After uninstalling all the Acer bloatware, I open the GUI defragger, it analyzes C: for 2 secs (doesn't even mention analyzing the other 2 partitions) then it says "your file system performance can be improved". I defrag it the C:, it takes 45 mins or so and done. I go to my wife's Dell Vista laptop and go to the GUI defragger. It analyzes all 3 of her partitions. Weird, mine only analyzed C: for 2 secs. I then go back to my new Acer and run the GUI degragmenter again. After a 2 sec C: analysis it says "your file system......." again. Then when I go the command line defrag, run "defrag c: -a" it says I don't need to defrag. Bottom line is the GUI defragmenter doesn't work on this new laptop. It doesn't scan all partitions, when started it runs for a bit, then it just stops and it goes back to saying " your file system performance can be improved".
