I have recently started using Windows Mail and I wanted to know if there is a way to change a setting or something like that so I can run it in the taskbar and when a message is received it either give me a bubble notification or plays a sound.

I have the game World of Warcraft installed, when it downloads the updates for it it says 'your computer appears to be behind a firewall' which prevents it from installing all the way completely. I have disabled Windows Firewall but it still pops up. Is there anything that I can do to fix this so that that error messsage doesnt pop up anymore.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just had to use my recovery disks to recover Vista, I set up my windows mail exactly the same way as I used to have it. But now I keep getting notifications of new mail when I don't actually have new mail messages. Before, I used to be able to leave messages unread until I was ready to read them, now I have to mark everything as read even in my deleted folder, and even when everything is marked as read I still sometimes get the notification.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI keep getting a yellow exclamation point on windows start navigation sound I can go in and select it and it works for the time it is selected. but as soon as I reboot the yellow exclamation point comes back how do I fix this can someone help me please it annoying and aggravating to have to turn that on all the time. I even did a system restore back to yesterday thinking I did something to it no go still dose it. nothing else broken all works good sound everything just not this one.

Meaning when I record something, it would record whatever is playing on the computer. But I forgot how to make that setting.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to Vista U x64 and am having sound problems. I have a prelude x-fi sound card but the sound coming out of it is extremely low. I have maxed out every thing I can max (control panel sound, creative panel) and the sound level is whisper quiet. I have also upgraded all my drivers except the prelude's, I would but their website isn't offering those drivers at the moment. But the drivers supplied with the card are vista certified so I should get something. But my mobo, etc is all updated. I have been searching for a solution for two days to no avail.
View 8 Replies View Relatedso I finally said the heck with it.. and I disabled the UAC.. becuase it's very very irritating for it to stop EVERYTHING I do on my system.. But, every single time I restart my Machine I get the little popup, and the notification that it's been changed and the little RED X warning in system tray. I don't like seein a bad mark when nothing is wrong.. so I went into the setting and found a place where I could click do not notify, but show Icon.. so now the popup is gone, but it's still there.. is there ANY way I can completely get rid of it so It doesn't bother me every singe time I restart my system... just a thought.. let me kno please.

I go Taskbar and Start Menu Properties --> Notification Area and then i tick Hide Inactive Icons but the arrow is still missing.

Recently windows installed office geniune advantage notification software. I am runniing Vista Home Premium SP2 with Office XP. When I load an office program a window pops up that says my copy is not geniune. How can I get rid of this? I can't find it to uninstall it.

Is there setting that I touched on accident that disabled the notification area's ability to collapse after a certain number of icons are displayed? I noticed that I havent gotten a notification in awhile, usually WU has updates available every week. when I check for updates through WU, it says its up to date.. ( with the exception of an optional update for SilverLight..) last install was 8/15. but there are defender updates after that date installed, ( defender update has its own settings I'm guessing at this point?? ) Attached is a snip of the update window...kinda paranoid that I'm either not getting updates, or they are still being installed without notification?

Each time it completed an virus data base update, it would pop up and make a verbal announcement. It is quite annoying, and sometimes disruptive. I tried to hide it by : right click task bar > Properties > Notification Area > Customize > select Hide on avast! ( both ). Won't work. Still shows up for an announcement.

Now Windows wants me to run Check Disc on the iPod. But when I do it, it says it can't, since the disc is in use. So when I click 'schedule scan at startup,' it does nothing.

If you hover over the icon, there is no pop up message saying what it is. Left and right click don't do anything at all. I've looked in the customise icons section but it is just listed as "<no title>".
The icon looks like two figures in front of a small window, with the windows shield at the front. I've tried to attach a screen shot of it. It's the second one from the left.
It appears shortly after starting up the laptop and then won't go.

How does one get rid of unwanted links in the Notification area?
By right clicking an unwanted item, one can hide it, but this does not remove it.
I have an Asus Motherboard that has an EPU-6 Engine (EPU = Energy Processing Unit, all it does is maximize energy usage on the mobo). It comes with a small app that puts itself in the Notification Area so that you can change between energy profiles easily. I like the app, but I don't want it shown there all the time. I already tried the "Hide Inactive Icons" option, and also tried to hide it manually by selecting "Hide" from the drop down menu in the "Custom..." options. The problem is that it hides the icon, but when I reboot, all those settings are undone. Is there a way to fix that?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm running a number of programs such as skype with special settings (for skype it is Vista SP2 compatability so it doesn't use up my taskbar bar when minimized). If I do that I get a popup asking me if I'm sure I want to run the app (allow it to make changes). I don't want to turn UAC completely off but even on the lowest settings before shutting it off, it has popups for my "special" apps. How do I add exceptions for my special apps as I have quite a few of them I run on a regular basis.
