Somehow I don't know what I did but now I'm missing this: Click the arrow next to the Lock button to access the Shut Down option When I want to choose how to shut down the computer, this arrow is gone. how to get the arrow back
This option is missing when I right-click on the network icon is the system tray (notification area). I have noticed it is not there on all 3 of my PCs? Does anyone have any idea what would 'remove' this option or how to 'restore' it...?!
I'm running Vista Home Premium SP2 with 2 GB of RAM, all WU's, Firefox, MBAM, SuperAntiSpywareProfessional, CCleaner, Spybot, CA Security Suite, and WLM. The machine's running just great but after the last restart (to complete the uninstall of Ad-Aware) my little Lexmark All-In-One printer icon is missing from the notification area. It's usually placed right next to my network icon. I've tried restarting the service (an app called `lxcz_device') using `services.msc' but to no avail. The printer works just fine. how to get that icon back again without doing another restart?
I got a blue screen the other day while surfing on my Powere Utility Service sites. Upon reboot my desktop came up minus the little Network icon in the Notification area of the taskbar. Also missing was my Realtek HD Audio Manager icon for my PC speakers. I tried re-establishing these but wasn't successful. Then I tried another reboot and the Realtek icon came back, but the Network icon is still missing. I had to do another restart after a power failure and this time the same Network icon was missing.
As I am working on the computer (Sony VAIO Laptop)(Windows Vista Home Edition), I hit the arrow key several times. Doesn't really matter which one, the result is the same. Just for argument sake, lets say I hit the left arrow key several times. The computer will act as if the key is stuck, and will scroll to the left. Using the up and down arrow keys, I can go up or down with out a problem. When I hit the right arrow button, I don't go to the right. The only way I can "unstick" the left arrow button is to hit again.
This issue happens with all the arrow keys, so I figure that perhaps it is a preference somewhere in Vista. I thought it might be the stickys, but I checked and they are off.
I have a problem with the arrow next to the lock button. Half of it is missing. The only thing i have found was a reg hack to remove the lock button to allow more room for the arrow. The reg change did not work and messed up my mouse and keyboard along with no sound from media player. A system restore fixed everything. Has anyone had this problem with the arrow? See attachment.
I can't use my touchpad. My arrow/cursor is frozen in the middle of the screen.
1) I can still use external mouse
2) I saw in similar post somebody suggested using memory tool scan from microsoft. I did find that but when I clicked on it the owner was not microsoft but some other name. I am tired of downloding stuff on my computer and find out later that they are spyware etc..
3) I purchased Norton 360 which does not help
4) I ran system restore, did not help. First when I ran system restore it gave me error message "unspecified error during system restore" I ran it in safemode and now I could restore. Then I had to do the updates again. Rebooted toshiba laptop agai and the cursor still frozen
I am so annoyed at the current way left/right arrow keys work in folders. When I have one open and want to browse through it moving from file to file using the left arrow, I have to press the down arrow at each row end instead of the left arrow just moving to the next line. Is there anything I can do to change that?
When I try to boot my Vista laptop, it boots fine until after the green scrolling bar completes. Then, it goes to a black screen, then a darker shade, then a lighter shade of black. Then, an arrow appears. Nothing happens afterward. The screensaver will come on after a while. System restore doesn't fix it. What could I do or what could be the cause?
As many of you have noticed, microsoft has bigger icons in Vista, but they also made the shortcut arrows bigger. This is a little tool that I found that is easy to use and works with both x86 and x64 builds.
when I try to start up my computer (hp - with vista), it goes straight to a black screen with a white arrow curser (which I can move around). The screen saver will come on after a few minutes, but when I touch a key, I get back to the same blank screen. Alt-Ctrl-Del does nothing. I have tried rebooting in safe mode, and I still end up with the blank screen. I do not have have the Windows CD (pre-installed when I bought it), and my CD drive is not working anyways (been broken for a few weeks).
I don't have an arrow to the right of the padlock - the one that calls up the pop up menu for shutting down, restarting, etc. It was never there from the time I got the computer (installed at the HP factory). I can still access the menu if I carefully click on the border after the padlock, but shouldn't I have the arrow?
i really don't know if it is from my Vista or IE7!! when i browse and try to go back one page my browser always jump two or three pages every click on the back arrow?? i tried many things and searched in MS and IE pages and did't find an answer!
so I finally said the heck with it.. and I disabled the UAC.. becuase it's very very irritating for it to stop EVERYTHING I do on my system.. But, every single time I restart my Machine I get the little popup, and the notification that it's been changed and the little RED X warning in system tray. I don't like seein a bad mark when nothing is wrong.. so I went into the setting and found a place where I could click do not notify, but show Icon.. so now the popup is gone, but it's still there.. is there ANY way I can completely get rid of it so It doesn't bother me every singe time I restart my system... just a thought.. let me kno please.
Is data execution protection supposed to notify me when it stops a program from running? The only "notice" I get is that nothing happens when I click a program's shortcut. Now that I've learned the signs (or lack thereof) of DEP in action I know when to tell it to allow a certain program.
I downloaded and am using IE 8. A few times a week, however, I get that half screen pop up from microsoft telling me that I should update. I received my IE8 through automatic update. Any way to stop this harassment?
How do I set-up E-mail notification so that any new E-mails that are sent to me while I'm viewing previously sent E-mails, appear on my inbox list? I have to exit my E-mails and then re-enter to become aware that there are new E-mails for me.
Is there a built-in program in Vista Ultimate that create pop-up notifications? For example: if i want to remind my self to feed the fish 3 days from now, i will be able to create a notification in that program and it will pop-up in my vista in the exact day and hour that i programed it?
Recently windows installed office geniune advantage notification software. I am runniing Vista Home Premium SP2 with Office XP. When I load an office program a window pops up that says my copy is not geniune. How can I get rid of this? I can't find it to uninstall it.
The notification area, down by the time, has 13 icons showing. And there isn't any "<" or ">" symbol near them at all. Is there setting that I touched on accident that disabled the notification area's ability to collapse after a certain number of icons are displayed? Or, is it normal for it to show 13 icons without collapsing....
MMBxIHA.4876@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl> Using Vista Business. Would like to manage or at least edit my notification icons. Have many "historical" ones that should never have been there and would like to remove them. I'm about to drill down through the registry but maybe there is a better way.
I have WU to notify me when updates are available for download, so I can decide what and if to download and install them. I noticed that I havent gotten a notification in awhile, usually WU has updates available every week. when I check for updates through WU, it says its up to date.. ( with the exception of an optional update for SilverLight..) last install was 8/15. but there are defender updates after that date installed, ( defender update has its own settings I'm guessing at this point?? ) Attached is a snip of the update window...kinda paranoid that I'm either not getting updates, or they are still being installed without notification?
Not sure which newsgroup I should be using. Hope this is the right one. I have an avast icon in the Notification area. Each time it completed an virus data base update, it would pop up and make a verbal announcement. It is quite annoying, and sometimes disruptive. I tried to hide it by : right click task bar > Properties > Notification Area > Customize > select Hide on avast! ( both ). Won't work. Still shows up for an announcement.
Have an 80gb iPod plugged in. All of a sudden I see a little notification saying 'this device can run faster if you plug it into another port.' huh? it runs fine. Now Windows wants me to run Check Disc on the iPod. But when I do it, it says it can't, since the disc is in use. So when I click 'schedule scan at startup,' it does nothing.
Just recently a new icon appeared in the notification area and I can't get rid of it or even find out what it is. If you hover over the icon, there is no pop up message saying what it is. Left and right click don't do anything at all. I've looked in the customise icons section but it is just listed as "<no title>".
The icon looks like two figures in front of a small window, with the windows shield at the front. I've tried to attach a screen shot of it. It's the second one from the left.
It appears shortly after starting up the laptop and then won't go.
I've got an ACER Aspire 5735, running Vista Home Basic.
Is there a way to identify the items in the notification area?
