Website Email Links Not Working
Jun 14, 2009
Clicking or right-clicking website email links doesn't work anymore. My email is Windows Mail, but I get error messages that Windows Office Outlook failed to open. I was told to reinstall Windows Mail, but I would lose my address book entries and emails. I checked in Options and the option to make Windows Mail the default mail client is grayed out.

You can no longer drag a url link from an email and drop it on an I.E. window. This used to be a good way of opening a webpage in a specific IE window instead of clicking the link which would open in whichever window it felt like - which might be over the top of a web page you want to keep open. Is this a problem with Vista mail or IE7 and is it likely to get fixed properly?

I am still trying to find out how to send a link in an email without having to list the entire URL. Such as we can do on forums, etc. I am using Windows Mail with Windows Vista Home Premium 64, soon to upgrade to Windows 7. Example—if I wanted to send a link to aol ionstead of having to list it this way, I should be able to list it as just aol and clicking on the link will go right there. I get emails like that all the time but can't figure out how to send one.....

Unable to open my email message links. Everytime I click on the link I received an error message: Application not found. I can copy and paste the link to the Internet Explorer search window and open the link that way. But, that is a definite pain in the butt to do that.

I've been getting this error message whenever I try to delete a website or folder from my Favorites. I can click close program and my homepage comes back up. Check online for a solution does nothing. I looked at the details and realized I was running IE 7.0.6001.1800 so I downloaded IE 8, but the problem persists. Right now the only way I can make it happen is by trying to delete something in my Favorites folder, but it has just come up randomly a few times. I googled "Internet Explorer has stopped working" and got lots of pages where other users are having the same problem, suggesting various fixes, but none has worked for me so far. Hope I didn't make a mistake by downloading IE8!

Apologies if this has already been posted, but I couldn't find anything....My system specs are as below... My problem is when I click on certain links within a web page, nothing happens. If I right click and select "open in a new tab" it tends to work. Links like "enlarge image" etc, don't work at all...

At first I thought this was an IE7 problem but after installing Firefox the problem exists there as well.
Problem:
Most of the links on web pages will NOT connect from this machine. For instance, using any Search Engine (Live search, Google, Ask.com etc) I can NOT connect to any of the sponsored links. When I copy and paste the named web address for that link then I connect without a problem.
I've posted in the IE and Firefox groups without even getting a suggestion.I had even uninstalled spybot and adaware and stopped the firewall and kaspersky but the problem remained. It looks to me like a security setting but I don't know where else to look.

Windows Vista includes a great little utility that allows users to finally make soft and hard file system links in the file system. This can be very useful from a software compatibility standpoint as well as a great way to organize your computer. Unlike a shortcut, a link is at the file system level and can be used to create an alias for a file or folder that is in a different location. For example, you can create a hard link (Directory junction) called c:win that points to c:windowssystem32. After the link is created, you can open up command prompt or explorer and browse to c:win and you will see the contents of c:windowssystem32. This is not a new technology, it has actually been a core Linux and Unix feature for as far as I can remember but it is nice to finally have it in Windows Vista....

my friend's email is thru gmail. she has a links button (looks like chain links) that she uses to provide links to websites *without* showing the website address. it simply highlights a word she has typed and the mail recipient clicks on that word to go to the website. i think several words (a phrase) can be highlighted as well as just one word. so she might say, 'click here for more info' and the word *here* will be highlighted and contains the link. does windows vista mail have this feature? i cannot find it.

now I realize that MS is trying to protect me from all the web baddies. But why can't I log on to their website (hotmail) without turning security off? I've set that site as OK for cookies. But if security is on then it won't accept my password. I'm not typing it wrong, I've had that email for about 6-7 years now. As soon as I turn off security, close IE, open IE I can log on. Then I have to turn on security and close IE, then open for security to be back on. Is there a way I can just log on without turning off security. Or can I convice MS to fix this obvious blunder? Vista Home basic BTW

windows vista home premium/windows media player 11. Today I can no longer play certain mp3's I have. I am told I need a license and to get it, I am sent to a website that does nothing. No information on the website is offered to obtain the license other than to go to certain other websites, and pay for the license.
Up until today, I could play the mp3's with no problems. Perhaps due in part in using "Rhapsody" for the first time. My problem is, how and where exactly do I obtain this "license" which should be free, or at least at bare minimal cost for ALL of my mp3's? Not just a select few. It's my damn property, microsoft ain't gonna tell me how and when i can use it.

I own a website that has been transfered to a different hosting account however I still cannot access the site - everyone else can, including my partner (we live together and share the internet) but I still get the page that we put up saying that the site will be back soon, just changing servers etc. I'm using firefox - I've cleared my history, the cache and even deleted my bookmarks. I've cleared the cache using the command prompt and I've cleared out all temporary internet files. I've run out of ideas as to why I still cant get onto the site (which can be found here).

I've a web site url that apparently is unreachable from my PC (dhcp reserved address), MS Windows Vista Business and IE8, ONLY this website. I checked firewall and antivirus settings, i tried to bypass firewall, but problem persist. I changed from DHCP to Fixed IP, i changed DNS, but none. I also tried from Firefox / Chrome, same problem. Apparently the site is resolved from DNS but then not reachable. The tracert command shows that the request expire immediately, so it seems that the
request remains local and is not forwarded outside from my PC....
I've another PC, Windows XP Pro SP3, IE7 (also this dhcp reserved), it's joined in the same domain, so same dchp - dns - gateway and firewall rules...., same problem. This PC is a dual boot with Debian 5, so i tried to boot in linux and surprise...with Firefox that website opens immediately...and the tracert command shows that it is reachable among 4 nodes.... In linux the dhcp and the ip released is the same as XP....so it points to same default gateway and dns.....

I am not sure if this is a Microsoft issue or laptop issue but i play an online game & there is a program that i can use which enables me to play it automatically, however in order to use this program it needs to connect to its webpage. This has been working fine til saturday & then it stopped working. The website that i am not able to connect to (either on FireFox or IE7)
I have uninstalled AVG & disabled Windows Firewall & still not able to connect to the website or use the program. I re-installed AVG but had to install the 8.0 version & as i am sure you know already when you google something AVG will use its Resident Shield & Linkscanner & let you know if the links are safe; well, with the link for this website it says that it cannot scan it & that may be due to the webpage being removed or there is an issue with it. I know the webpage is there & that there is nothing wrong as i can use my girlfriends laptop on the same connection & it works perfectly fine.

Any time i open internet explorer or click on a link in a page, instead of showing my home page or the page relevant to the link I clicked, i get a navigation error "Navigation to website canceled". It then goes to the login page for LinkedIn. I am a LinkedIn subscriber but have never set this as an option for my home page.
I have also cleared all my internet history (cookies etc). Once the LinkedIn homepage has loaded I can click back then refresh the page and the page I wanted will display (usually). How can I stop this from happening? I have Vista Home Premium, Office 2007 and IE7 on a Sony Vaio

I cannot connect to one website via HTTP or HTTPS - www.discover.com. After installing SP1, I can no longer connect to this one website. I have Zone Alarm along with Vista's built in firewall installed, and there is a firewall build in to the 2 wire DSL router I have. Antivirus is Symantec antivirus 10.2.0.276. Windows defender is also installed. I've diabled all firewalls and antivirus and setup a DMZ on the router and still cannot connect. When I try to connect in IE, which seems to indicate either a DNS or a firewall error. Running Vista's diagnostic tests says that port 80 or 443 is being blocked, but with all firewalls off, I can't imagine by what. I've installed virtual pc and installed xp with sp2 on the virtual pc and that is able to connect through vista to that website.
Via a XP SP2 laptop on the local LAN i'm also able to connect. I've tried to uninstall and reinstall the NIC. The machine has a PCI wireless card and using that it is also not able to connect. I've tired to use my cellular provider for dial-up access and that also did not work. I've tired safe mode with networking and still no luck. Of course all other sites are normal. I've tried resetting IE settings, adding the site to the trusted sites, running with no add-ons, all with no luck. I've messed with the security settings as suggested in some threads and no luck. I've also tried Opera, Firefox, and Safari and none of them can connect either. There is no proxy setup either. I've reset the IP and Winsock ( ipconfig /flushdns, /renew, netsh int ip reset, netsh winsock reset, etc)..........

I'm having difficulty in parsing this quote from Microsofts own website -- "The 64-bit editions of Windows Vista&8212;available for all editions of Windows Vista except. Now, I have an x64 CPU architecture PC, 4 GB of system ram, and only the 32-bit version of Vista Premium* pre-installed*. And unless I'm mistaken, I'm only entitled to a Recovery disk that I create or order from Hewlett Packard. I don't want to buy an upgrade or full install of the 64-bit Ultimate Edition. However, I do want the 64-bit version of the Premium Edition instead. Microsoft says that I can get a 64-bit edition here: Even if it requires a custom install (AKA "fresh install), I'm OK with that. Can I obtain the 64-bit Premium Edition (if it exists)? Has anyone done this?
