VISTA SP1 Scrambled My System

Mar 23, 2008

It is in an unbootable state right now. I am posting from another computer. After apparently downloading and beginning the upgrade, it just stops, with a message sort of like: !! 0xc09000 HelpPane.exe !! on the screen. I am actually not sure of the numbers; only the HelpPane.exe part and the double exlaimation points.

VISTA SP1 Scrambled My System, Error !!0xc09000 HelpPane.exe !! On The Screen

Mar 26, 2008

It is in an unbootable state right now. I am posting from another computer. After apparently downloading and beginning the upgrade, it just stops, with a message sort of like: !!0xc09000 HelpPane.exe !! on the screen. I am actually not sure of the numbers; only the HelpPane.exe part and the double exlaimation points. I can't believe MS managed to completely blow this AGAIN after all the problems with Vista initially. My 1 year old computer is a worthless brick right now. I can't be the only one with this problem. I am fuming right now. How can MS fix this ?!?!

Attachment Scrambled

Jul 7, 2008

Friend of mine sent me an attachment which is in Chinese language. He uses Yahoo.com, and I use cogeco.ca. We sent e-mails in Chinese many times without problem. Attachment in Chinese is the first time From him.

** the file is in DAT file type **

Here is my problems : -

1.) I attempted to open the attachment and I got the following error message : " This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.Create an association in the Set Associations control pane."

2.) So, I saved the attachment to Pictures folder, and opened it to Notepad. It worked, BUT content was all scrambled. Couldn't read. Now in WM, I can decode it, but in notepad there is no such option.

3.) Then I tried Microsoft Power Point. It couldn't find the darn attachment.

4.) Then I tried both the Microsoft Office Excel and Adobe Reader, non worked.

Note : I did include Notepad, MS Excel and Adobe as the programs it will open onto, in case someone wondered.

Scrambled Email In Winmail

Jan 28, 2010

I have a large number of folders, several thousand, that I use to keep student tests and forms for our free online Bible College. A new problem has developed, starting October of 2009, which is now increasing in the number of folders affected. The email tests and forms will come in with one Subject line but something totally unrelated in the body of the email. Example: The Subject line will say "The Bible One Quiz Results" but the body will contain the test results for Salvation 5. And the file that is in the body is many times very repetative over several email submissions from my students............

Scrambled Display NVidia

Mar 23, 2008

I am having a problem with a scrambled display in Vista. Here's what's happening: If the computer has been idle long enough for the display to go into standby mode, once it is reawakened, everything seems normal. That is, until you do something that requires UAC, or a 3D game. When the UAC screen dimms, the screen becomes totally scrambled. The same if you start a 3D game like Doom. There is no clearing the display - the computer has to be rebooted.

Interestingly, if after the computer wakes from standby I log off, then log back on, the system performs properly, with no screen scrambling. The system is an Athlon X2 6000, nVidia 7900GT, Vista Ultimate (32-bit) with all the updates and patches. I have installed the nVidia 169.25 drivers, though this problem has existed with all the previous drivers.

I have tested the hard drives with chkdsk. I have tested the memory. I have disabled all startups in msconfig. All drivers are up to date. System is running Vista SP1.

Can't System Restore Vista

Mar 23, 2008

They said I am creating WMA when I should be creating CDA....Well, ALL was working fine a month and 1/2 ago..I did do a Media Player update in Nov. ( this thing stopped working mid Nov) and I cannot do a system restore as HORRID VISTA will only let you go back ONE month NOT LIKE xp where you can pick any calendar date as a restore point. I am scared to do a system restore as I think I might create even MORE PROBLEMS than I already have. DO I go back to the date closest to today or go back a full month if I try a system restore..??? I don't want to lose restore points if I need them later....

Vista Os Wrong Regarding System

Oct 28, 2009

This is may be ridiculous but I'm new to this Vista-so-called Operating System I wish to know about and how to prevent any crash, broken, or anything wrong regarding the system This is a few question I wish to know more:

1.How can I change the directory name or folder to my desired name : C:...alias....I wanna rename it with my name to replace alias?

2.I have Avast antivirus program the case is my Security Center can not detect any antivirus installed on my computer how to verify that I have antivirus monitored?

3.I got a little matters to discuss I had Revo Uninstaller and I'm very happy to have it but yesterday when I processed evidence remover it may be an hour or so but when I check it again it already 100% and keep increasing to 101...102....106%!! whatta and when I check on my disk it also reducing the memory from 199 Gb free of 225 Gb to 56 Gb!!! I keep do nothing until the disk turns red then I stoped it and it back to normal 199 Gb! it may be no big deal but I just want to know why did that happen?

4.I got Mozilla Firefox 3 and sometimes when I open a new tab it stop for 2or 3 second than continue as usual I got a few add-ons installed is that a cause ? or other cause to make Mozilla and my internet connection via CDMA modem take longer than usual?attention this is only a little question among many more question Iwould like to discuss here in Vista because I think here is the absolute right place to do it!!

Disable ALL Security On Vista System

May 14, 2008

I want to disable ALL security on my Vista System. I don't want any passwords. I want every file visible/readable/writable/executable by ANYBODY who happens onto my network.
I don't want any firewalls. I don't want any antivirus. I don't want any automatic updates of any kind to anything. I don't want any popups asking for permission to do anything. I'd rather not have all the bloat and duplication in folders for different users. I want a single-user system and to be administrator of all things. Yes, I'll put some tiny subset of this back with third-party tools THAT I CONTROL. I've been poking around fixing up one issue after another...but it's a task. Is this info all in one place? Or better yet, a magic incantation to remove ALL of it in one fell swoop?

Cann't Find Vista System

May 18, 2008

Whatever happened to the file transfer program Alohabob? Microsoft bought the company a few years back and there were reports it was going to be integrated into Vista. I cannot find it anywhere on my Vista system. Was it ever implemented? If not, it certainly should have been. Anyone wishing to transfer files from a previous version of Windows would find it most useful.

System Vista Didn't Realtek

Nov 22, 2008

Does anyone know how I can sync Windows time to the global time for my timezone? I had to manually set the time in BIOS the first time I installed this motherboard from 9/19/2008, and I never had to do that. Also I had to install NIC drivers from the disk... again I haven't had to do that for a long time. I guess Vista didn't have Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) NIC drivers integrated into the OS?

Vista Security Virus And System Restore?

Apr 28, 2010

My grandson allowed the vista security virus on their PC I am trying to fix it. It blocked everything I did between using my Daughters laptop and gathering info from the internet I did get the PC Doctor downloaded (took forever) and installed on the infected PC then ran a scan only to find out that I had to purchase the tool to remove it. I did and the Pc worked fine or so I thought.

DD looked up lowes last night and now today it is again posessed it will not let me run system restore everytime I look up something on the internet it redirects me to stupid pages that have nothing to do with what i key in. so I am trying system restore and it wont open it tells me it is already running. This is a vista home basics I have no idea if it is 32 or 64.

Move Install Of Vista To System Without Reinstalling

Jun 6, 2008

I recently built a new computer and I would like to move my current install of Vista to the new system without reinstalling it. My only problem is that both setups will be using a raid 0 array for the installation and I don't know if I will be able to boot off the old disks with the new hardware. My old PC was a nForce 4 based AMD rig and my new one is a P35 based Intel rig. Is there a way that I can install the drivers for the new raid array prior to booting with it?

1. I boot up with Vista Home Edition DVD;

2. Get on "Install Now" window, and click the "Install Now" get into next step;

3. The update option is disabled (which is good because I need clean install), I click the advanced option, the next window only show couple partitions without showing C drive!

Switch To System Tough Can Not Start Vista

Aug 29, 2009

The switch to Vista has been tough for me. Lost my computer when I was doing an online college test and a storm came up. Our well pump got hit and fried my XP. I MISS my XP! It's been a real hassle trying to get things to work with Vista. Which leads me to my current dilemma...I don't know if my computer caught a bug - Kaspersky and TrendMicro Housecall don't find anything - or what, but for some reason, I lost the Windows Installer. Finally got that back, but I then "lost" my Office 2000 Pro program.

All the icons for all those files were the "generic" icons. I uninstalled Office, then reinstalled it. It seemed like things were working until I went to open my Goodsol Solitaire program. The Office installer opened and said the program was not installed and did I want to install it now? It then automatically went into the install mode. But, it would do that, then start all over.

So, I uninstalled it, then reinstalled it again. Same thing. Also, now when I want to open a Word doc, it does the same thing. When I did the install, I told the program to install all to run from my computer. I also went to open my Picture Viewer this morning and the same thing came up - Office is not installed...What can I do?

Windows Vista And Make Sure That System Boots

Apr 21, 2008

A long time ago I installed an evaluation version of Windows Vista on the second partition of my pc, next to my installation of Windows XP (dual boot partition C and L). The evaluation period has long since expired and I am no longer using Vista. However, all the files are still present on my second partition, and every time I start my pc, the boot menu will come up. What do I need to do to completely remove all the files that belong to Windows Vista and make sure that my system boots straight into Windows XP,without stopping for the boot menu?
